  1. Someone I'm keeping an eye on Friday for a QO: Howie Kendrick. He would be a perfect addition for this team, solid glove, great bat out of the 2 hole. Sox should be all over him if the Dodgers don't offer him the QO.
  2. Steve Adams thinks we will be looking at Freese and Weiters. Freese might be interesting, his career numbers arent bad. Not exciting, but certainly not bad.
  3. The Sox should get nothing short of a Cole Hamels-like package for Quintana. 3 top 100 prospects and a back end starter is what that haul ended up being.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Carlos Sanchez and Tyler Saladino are both far better options as utility men than either of those guys. Agreed and I think one of them will become the utility infielder this offseason
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) I have no problem with Beckham returning. Look at the prospects we have in the wings and they aren't ready to step in at the major league level. Beckham fills the super sub role quite well IMO. Albers is another one we should consider, but not at a high price. Would rather just save the extra couple mil and use Leury
  6. Looks like it's going to be a busy offseason
  7. Anybody have a link for somewhere where we can see the current 40 man?
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 2m2 minutes ago Orioles intend to extend a qualifying offer to Matt Wieters, not surprisingly. He'll be a one-of-a-kind item in a limited catching market. Wieters is off limits to me now Didnt want him before, want him even less now
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) Let's hire another coach with perhaps some volunteer Little League coaching time who won't be construed by anyone as a threat. And then watch him turn down the job when Robin's gone...adding further insult to injury. At any rate, LaRussa has no loyalty to Ventura, but I'm not sure McEwing would even want the job unless he had a real chance to win because you're just going to be sacrificed eventually before Hahn or KW. Might be like AJ Hinch with the DBacks and now Astros, hired to be fired but then the second job is the charm having learned from the first experience. Probably ends up with the AZ job right before LaRussa retires. We can be like an internship/practicum/training. What?
  10. Anyone think Tim Anderson is basically Dee Gordon with a little more pop and a little less speed?
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) Is $15 mil a year a "buy-low" scenario? Also, if he's a SS butcher, how does that help? $15 million in FA basically equates to a 2 win player. He had his worst year as a professional and still managed to put up 1.7 wins. Butcher might be hyperbolic, but he had a bad first half with the glove and still finished the season with a positive defensive score. EDIT: As a side note, Desmond had a higher defensive score than Alexei last season.
  12. By all accounts, Desmond had an atrocious season last year for a guy coming off 3 straight 4+ win seasons. He failed to reach the 20/20 club for the first time since 2011 and was a butcher with the glove. I still think the Nationals might offer a QO to him, but does anybody think he is one of the best bounce back candidates of this FA class? His second half line bounced back quite a bit to the tune of .262/.331/.446 which is above average production from the SS spot. There is a great deal of risk involved in a long term contract with him, but if he could be had for $14-15 MM a year over 4 years, I think it's something the Sox should contemplate. That would give you the ability to slide Anderson to 2nd or move Desmond to DH if his glove continues to slide.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 02:28 AM) I like Derek Norris but why would San Diego trade him? They have locked up for another four years and catchers are hard to come by. Preller is going to try and compete again and moving Norris would only make that more difficult. Ya, I was of the thinking that the San Diego FO was waiting for Hedges to assume the role.
  14. I would rather role the dice on Desmond bouncing back at the price Weiters is gonna command. Trade for Derek Norris instead.
  15. Sox bats doing surprisingly well in AZL thus far: Engel .370/.471/.519 6/3 BB/K 4 SB Peter .348/.400/.435 Delmonico .176/.250/.529 2 HR Trey is having the worst fall, but it doesnt look like he's played in awhile
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Neither would Theo. Lol. Get the f*** out of here with that troll s***. Baez hasn't proven s*** at the major league level no matter what Theo thinks of him.
  17. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) Engel went 2-3 yesterday and is hitting .300 with a couple walks and SBs. Wendelken threw a scoreless inning as well. Up to .357/.500/.429 after yesterdays performance. Man would that be a huge coup if he could produce a 700+ OPS with his defense and speed.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 04:30 AM) The Sox season ended 3 weeks ago. They were bad. What did you expect their projected WAR to be right now.? Go ahead a rip me but you are the guy whining before any offseason move is made by any team in baseball about a team that finished 10 games under .500 and their projected cumulative WAR for next season. Again, what did you expect it to be at this point? And again, I am pointing out to you that even on April 1 which is 5 months from now and every team had a moreaccurate roster, Fangraphs was off, missing every playoff team in the AL. In 2015. So did PECOTA. So again it is October. Fast forward 5 months, the projections still mean nothing. The projections on April 1this year had every AL playoff team missing the playoffs. It certainly isn't proof that next year is going to suck. Not whining at all, simply making an observation in regards to the amount of work they need to do. Their projections wont really change from now until April, so again, your point is kind of moot. Of course teams can overperform and underperform their projections, most of the time they end up being relatively accurate though. If you are so angsty over random threads trying to spark discussion during the offseason, maybe it's time you step away from the keyboard for awhile chief.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Fangraphs April 1 projections had no AL playoff team making the playoffs. The highest ranking playoff team was the Yankees, who were 7th in the AL and the first team eliminated. Judging anything by projection before the WS is over and no moves have been made is pretty funny, but it should keep the whiners whining. What, the same roster they finished the season with isn't projected 3 weeks after the season is over to have enough WAR to make the playoffs next year? The World Series and offseason have no influence on their 2016 steamer numbers, not really sure what the point you're trying to make is. Feel free to contribute nothing to the thread though, you're certainly entitled to do that.
  20. As it currently stands, the White Sox are currently sitting around 23 WAR as a team next year: http://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?...l&players=0 If the trend from this year holds true, playoff teams put up roughly 40 WAR. The Sox have to trade for or buy 17 wins worth of talent this offseason. Very, very tall task.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) timdierkes ‏@timdierkes 42s42 seconds ago Where will Justin Upton land? Orioles are somewhat reasonable, Yankees if they trade Gardner. Rangers, White Sox, Giants, Tigers, Angels? Rangers? They have a glut of OFers, that doesnt make any sense
  22. World Series edition: -Extend QO to Samardzija, he rejects -Reject Alexei's option -Resign Albers -Trade LaRoche and Carlos Sanchez to Pirates for Neil Walker -Trade Avi and Micah for Derek Norris -Trade Montas, Adams, Hawkins, and Trey for Todd Frazier -Sign Jason Heyward LF Eaton 2B Walker 1B Abreu 3B Frazier RF Heyward DH Cabrera CF Thompson C Norris SS Saladino BE Flowers BE L. 23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) Mlbtr had a breakdown of every team and the biggest contract they have given out in their history. Biggest Sox contract? 6/68 to Jose Abreu. They aren't going to sign Heyward, Upton, or Cespedes guys. Sooner or later, if the franchise doesnt want to completely lose the fanbase, they are either going to need to completely rebuild or go after higher priced FAs. It cant be neither.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) Sure you can. Chris Sale gave up more runs than Eric Johnson. I'd take Chris Sale. There are at least a couple pitchers per team that were worse than Samarjdzija. That would make up dozens. No there wasnt
  25. This organization has lacked a leadoff hitter forever. I highly doubt they trade Eaton, who has filled that role exceptionally.
