QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) Why not? They want to see if they have something. Maybe a platoon option. No reason for him not to play. He probably sucks but he has less than 400 big league plate appearances total. His splits indicate he isn't much of a platoon option. Saladino should be getting more of the playing time, he is the better player.

If the Sox arent in the top 10, how do you improve this offseason?

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) I honestly have no clue. We have one star on offense and then a whole bunch of average to below average. Yet the outfield is crowded with crap and hard to change due to organizational committments and money. The infield...well, good luck. Everyone wants a 3b. We have 3 second basemen that each possess one great skill the others lack, and none are likely starters. We need legit star talent. Plugging below average with average isn't enough. I have no idea how you fix this. I look at the rotation and think we coul dbe the mets, but we aren't. Our pitching underachieves, our team tail spins. Personally, I find Sanchez's second half incredibly encouraging. He has a .281/.324/.438 line and has played plus defense all season. If his bat can stay at a low to mid .700 OPS range, he's a 3-3.5 WAR player. -
Who would you rather see get more PA's in 2016 for the Sox

From Kiley McDaniels prospect chat today: Comment From Mike Klay Thompson’s bro is having a fine cup of coffee. Is the amount of game power a surprise (14 XBH in his 27 hits)? Has his hit tool gotten better? His K rate in AAA this year (19%) dropped significantly compared to 2104 in AA (25.4%),and his MLB rate is 22% now past 60 AB, the point at which it stars to stabilize. Does this bode well for him being a .260 instead of a .230 hitter? What chance do you give him to be a perennial 2.5-3.5 WAR player? 1:08 Kiley McDaniel: The tools are goofy: 55 speed, 55 arm, 60 raw, NFL TE looking dude with a smooth swing that can play a decent CF. The concern was always approach at the plate and how much of that power he can get to. I don’t think we have a conclusive answer yet, but he appears to have made enough adjustments to get a real shot in the bigs. -
I think you're getting a better player than Plouffe if you're trading Fulmer Edit: Not to say I wouldnt love Plouffe on the Sox, I just think Fulmer would be part of a monster package for someone

I think the FO will be quiet this offseason in comparison to last season, but I see two moves really helping this team be competitive next season: 1.) Go somewhat big with an offer to Ben Zobrist. I get it, he's old and people dont want to sign old FAs anymore, but Zobrist is a great solution to the Sox immediate problems. They need a solid third baseball that can provide both offense and defense and Zobrist fits both categories. In addition, he is a lifelong AL player, so he is already acclimated to the style of the league. This allows you to slide Saladino over to SS where his bat plays better. If Anderson is tearing up AAA, maybe he can be a late season call up in a playoff push. 2.) Trade for a catcher, preferably Austin Barnes. Tyler Flowers should not be a starting catcher next season. This position needs to be addressed and it needs to be addressed quickly. Lineup: CF Eaton 3B Zobrist DH Abreu 1B LaRoche LF Melky RF Thompson C Barnes SS Saladino 2B Sanchez BE A. Garcia BE L. Garcia BE M. Johnson BE Flowers? SP Sale SP Quintana SP Johnson SP Rodon SP Montas/Danks CL Robertson SU Montas (if not starting) SU Jones RP Duke RP Petricka RP Jennings RP Albers

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) ok, i take what you will give me and accept your POV.... but pls explain to me, statically speaking, the stats to expect from your idea of a starting outfielder in the mlb ranks. use offensive number for your opinion. then use the defense numbers. I expect corner OFers to not have career negative WAR. Im fine with Thompson hitting .260/.320/.440 and playing good defense. The fact is, Avi continues to regress every year. Major dip in SLG% this season, increased K%, lowest wOBA of his career, lowest wRC+...the guy is just not a good baseball player. Im fine with them holding onto him and getting him 300-400 AB next season, but he is bordering bust status. In just under 100 PA this season, Trayce has been worth 2.2 more wins on the season than Avi. That's a pretty significant number. -

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) So Garcia is quickly reaching bust status but the guy who's older than him, put up inferior numbers than him in the minors and has had nothing more than a cup of coffee in the Majors isn't? How does that work? This love affair with Trayce Thompson is getting a little ridiculous. At the beginning of this year the consensus was pretty much he could be a 4th outfielder at best. Now all of the sudden some act like he's the next Mike Trout or something. The minors dont really mean s*** if it doesnt translate to the majors. Avi is not good, it's very likely that he will never be good. -
Montas working with less velocity, more movement

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) With him, Rodon, and Fulmer in the shadows how can anybody NOT be excited with our rotation for years to come? Hopefully EJ can continue to do well too. The pitching is definitely a reason to be very excited. They really need bats and defense though. -
Maybe Chris should check out his Twins starts

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) The only pretenders are the people thinking Trace Thompson's performance the final 2 weeks of the season pulls any weight for 2016. He's been worth 2.1 more wins than Avi, Im willing to see what he has in a full season in 2016 -
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 06:50 AM) i am saying, and it is prob the way i worded it. for me the 1-4 pick, the bpa in my book will be a sp. now 5-15 i have a feeling, a really good feeling that this kid from arz will make a name for himself. he will be the bpa in that 5-15 range... but as i said, there will be some unknown prospect who will come out of the shadows and make a name for themselves. He has good power, but he strikes out a bunch

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) Heyman has an article today that pretty much suggests while Shark has cost himself some cash, probably not as much as we think. He also sort of verifies a rift with Coop. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...years-mlb-notes That right there is a big reason I dont see him accepting the QO

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) One of the best moments of the season. Hilarious reactions by him. That's a f***ing pathetic statement and sadly mostly true. What a disaster this organization is.
-
I just want to see him play regularly to see if he slumps. Is it really that hard to do a rotation the rest of the way where he plays every day? Even if he is just a 4th OFer, it's incredibly valuable to find that out now instead of in spring training.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) What's it do for us draft pick wise? 13th right now. Could be 9th with wins by Red Sox, Mariners, DBacks, and Padres and a loss to the twins.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) Melky probably can't wait for this season to end. Really awful beginning and end to the season for him . Noticed that the other day. He has really been garbage for the last 1-1.5 months

Ya, I have to say I've actually been pretty impressed by how well Trayce is squaring up the ball. He makes a lot of hard contact.
-
Thing is, they already had an ally in their minor league system and atleast Saladino provides elite defense. I'm assuming that means that Micah stands no chance of being with this team next season then.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 3m3 minutes ago Saladino at 3B today but Olt figures to get most of time there down stretch, Ventura said. WHY?!

QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) He's actually having his best season in 3 years....and he's always played in the AL. To add, his best defensive metrics have come at 3B and RF this season, two positions the White Sox could drastically upgrade
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Signing Zobrist to be our starting 3B would not be a smart move. He'll be 35, he's declining, and when's the last time a signing of a 35+ year old for us hit over .250 in his first season? He's actually having his best season in 3 years....and he's always played in the AL.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) This is correct. KW signed Melky Cabrera on his own. Supposedly Hahn thought they could have gotten similar production for a lesser price. KW wanted to stand pat in the middle of July to hold out for a last run, Hahn wanted to trade Samardzija in early-mid July. KW decided to wait. I see a trend...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) The only off season plan that matters. 670 The Score @670TheScore 3h3 hours ago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf wants answers, writes @MLBBruceLevine: http://cbsloc.al/1Nh8Rq6 Yaaaaaaaa, Hahn and Williams have no idea what the plan is. That is plainly apparent.
