Three factoids today: July 22, 1962 - Sox outfielder Floyd Robinson got six hits in six at bats in a game against the Red Sox. The White Sox would win 7-3 in Fenway Park. Floyd went 6 for 6 with one RBI and one run scored. He was the third player in franchise history to get six hits in a game. That season despite hitting only 11 home runs, he drove in 109 RBI’s along with hitting .312. July 22, 1991 - Former Sox owner Bill Veeck was enshrined into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Veeck also owned the Indians and St. Louis Browns. He revolutionized the way baseball marketed their product and he was decades ahead of his time in his thinking on revenue sharing and baseball’s option clause which caused some other owners to, in some cases, despise him, but he was beloved by fans especially in Chicago where he’d often walk around the stands during games interacting with the patrons. July 22, 1995 - In a game in Chicago then Brewers manager Phil Garner and then White Sox manager Terry Bevington got into a fist swinging brawl near the third base bag. The brawl was touched off when Ozzie Guillen shoved Jeff Cirillo on a play at third base. Garner, who managed Milwaukee from 1992 to 1999, had incidents with the Sox before. Many of those were prompted by some of his acerbic comments including refusing to refer to the Sox by name, using the moniker ‘big city’ The Sox would win this day 4-2.

From Merkin's story tonight: Entering Tuesday, White Sox catchers ranked last in the Majors with a .512 OPS. They're a bottom 10 unit in terms of home runs (9), but they're also last in average (.166) and on-base percentage (.243), according to MLB research.

High ankle sprains are very difficult to heal. Sometimes you need to have surgery to tie the tendons back together to promote healing. That's what happened to Tua when he was at Alabama. The Sox simply can't count on him for the rest of this season.

7th time this month they've scored one run or nothing in a game. It's now 10 times this month total they've scored three runs or less in a game.

I think it was last week someone wrote they wished the Sox could go on a run like Boston. I wrote that wasn't possible because the pitching isn't consistent enough. Tonight is an example of what I was talking about. Now I don't blame Schultz. He's been put in a tough spot, trying to learn on the job. That's not a big deal when you are 15 games out and nothing is on the line from a team standpoint. But something IS on the line, fighting for a potential divisional title and home field advantage in the playoffs. And the Sox have done extremely well at home. THAT's a big deal. It's not fair what the Sox are doing to him and its not fair to the other guys on the club. They need to get starting pitching help at the deadline and do so without sacrificing the future. It will be a real test for Getz and his staff.

I'm not saying you are wrong but you also have to consider the fan blowback if they do nothing at the deadline and potentially risk a playoff spot. The organizations credibility overall with the fan base is not good based on history especially recently. That's the horns of the dilemma they face right now. Now factor in there may not even be a season next year, anything can happen.

High ankle sprains are always the most difficult. I've had trainers tell me in some cases it would have been better for the player to have broken the ankle, that would heal quicker. He won't be back in 10 days that's almost guaranteed but maybe it won't be six weeks which would be Labor Day.

Two factoids today: July 21, 1997 – Enroute to a 3-0 win over the Tigers, Wilson Alvarez became the first Sox pitcher to ever strike out four hitters in a single inning. It happened in the seventh inning at Tiger Stadium. Alvarez struck out Tony Clark, Phil Nevin struck out but reached first base on a wild pitch, Melvin Nieves struck out and Alvarez finished the inning striking out Orlando Miller. Alvarez would strike out nine Tigers in a little over seven innings pitched. July 21, 2019 – It was a controversial decision in the minds of some, including national members of the media but long time White Sox outfielder/DH Harold Baines was voted into the Hall of Fame via the Veterans Committee. Baines was the overall number one pick in the 1977 draft by the White Sox and had made his way to the Major Leagues by 1980. He spent over 12 years with the franchise starting in right field before a knee injury moved him permanently to the DH role. He was a key member of the 1983 “Winning Ugly” White Sox who won the Western Division with 99 victories and represented the organization in four All-Star Games. He is among the all-time franchise leaders in games played, at bats, home runs, walks, runs scored, RBI’s, hits, extra base hits, total bases, doubles and 20+ home run seasons.

My trade wish list given Teel's injury is one of two options: 2 starting pitchers and a catcher. or A starting pitcher, a relief pitcher and a catcher.

With the lockout coming and the possibility of missed games or the season the Sox may keep him and all the top prospects in the minors to at least be playing and gaining experience. What I don't know is if the labor situation will also cause minor league games to be shut down sine now those players are also being represented by the MLBPA.

Teel is having a lost season. Looks like the Sox are going to have to trade for a catcher who can provide something on offense unless they decide to give Lee a chance.
