  1. You obviously don't remember the talent pool in the Sox organization in the 50's and early 60's do you? The Sox and Yankees had the two best farm systems in baseball during that time.
  2. Just wondering for those who closely follow this, isn't Vaughn basically another Burger? A power hitting corner type infielder. If so, why take him? Not criticizing the pick just wondering the reasoning behind it if they already have someone like him in the system. Unless of course the Sox now have doubts about Burger because of his injury situation.
  3. Would the Sox have the guts to release when all is said and done THREE of Hahn's off season signings? Santana, Alonso and Jay? Me thinks not. It makes it very plain to see how bad the front office is (and they don't like to be embarrassed that way). Not happening
  4. I suspect depending on how things turn out regarding injuries, Jose' etc the Sox could have a need for a right fielder with power, a DH and certainly both starting and relief pitching in the next year or so.
  5. CBS Sportsline with their story on Vaughn and why he is the most intriguing draft pick this year. Has great upside but also some limitations apparently: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-draft-2019-why-white-sox-draftee-andrew-vaughn-is-the-most-intriguing-prospect-in-this-years-class/
  6. "Realists" look at life as it is, not as many "hope" it will be.
  7. Maybe...maybe not: From tonight's MLB.com site: "Brett Baty, the Lake Travis High School (Texas) third baseman who is No. 17 on our Draft Top 200, is one of the best prep hitters in the class. He’s also, as has been well-documented, old for his class at 19 1/2, making it tougher to place where he might go in the first round, as some teams have models that don’t like older players. But there’s been some buzz for a while about Baty’s name in the top 10, mostly surfacing in talk of a deal with the Texas Rangers at No. 8 overall. It seems that the Rangers aren’t the only team up near the top kicking the tires on such a deal, with the White Sox, picking at No. 3, also discussing that possibility. Up until this point, most of the talk with the White Sox centered around the up-the-middle prep athlete in Abrams vs. the college bat in Vaughn (assuming Rutschman and Witt go 1-2 in some order). Chicago hasn’t taken a high school player since 2012, leading many to conclude Vaughn would be the pick. But the White Sox are still considering other options that include Bleday on the college bat side and a potential deal with Baty. That seems more like a backup plan if things don’t go well in terms of signability with other players, but stranger things have happened. -- Jonathan Mayo, June 1
  8. According to multiple stories in the mainstream media, Gio went back to his high school coach this off season and they changed his delivery. His high school coach. Can't say I've ever heard one like that before and it certainly doesn't paint Don Cooper in the best light does it?
  9. I have always felt under this ownership the Sox are usually in a "react" mode and just aren't "proactive" very often.
  10. I don't think they are counting on Dunning until 2021 if what I read is accurate. I certainly agree with your bolded statement although the Sox may have to trade something to get a pitcher with some upside left to him since I can't see them signing a Cole for example.
  11. Now THIS is baseball the way it's supposed to be played. Great pitching, timely hitting and clean fielding by the Sox. Terrific home stand. Nice, VERY nice crowd today as well and for once the team did not disappoint. Well done guys. Now the next road trip has winnable games to be had. Sox miss Scherzer I think so just get it done. And my God, Alonso has five hits (I think) in his last three games! (Trade him while his value is high! LOL)
  12. Honestly today, you better have six guys ready to go in case of injury or a slump. The Sox need to sign two starters in my opinion since there are no guarantees Rodon when he comes back, is effective or doesn't hurt some other part of his body given his history.
  13. Don't forget about a possible deal for Garcia to someone as well.
  14. The Plesac family all grew up Sox fans in Indiana. Supposedly they'll be about 75 of them at the game today including Dan who always wanted to play for the Sox but it just never happened. Hoping for a good outing, no "baseball-stupidity" and a Sox win which would close out a very good home stand with a chance to keep things going on a winnable road trip.
  15. You want to have fun? Try winning the friggin' game first. THAT'S having fun. You can have all the fun you want if you're hitting .320 and your team is winning. The fact that Sanchez is hitting around .260, the Sox are still under .500 and he's making stupid mistakes in the field and on the bases doesn't give him the right to have "fun" and act like an idiot in my opinion.
  16. Which is absolutely no excuse for the stupidity of Sanchez in starting that comedy of base running errors. Maybe he should practice more of his base running skills than his Gatorade dumping ones.
  17. Anything can happen but the odds of catching Minnesota (or finishing over .500 with this pitching staff) are very lllllooooonnnnnggggg...in my opinion.
  18. The only thing that bothered me was they let a bad pitcher off the hook. The guy was 1-5 with an ERA of just short of five. He gives up three walks and a couple hits in four innings and yet the Sox can't blast him into the showers. That and the absolutely stupid boneheaded base running which began with Sanchez's stupidity. Fundamentals yet again show themselves to be very important.
  19. And they are facing a guy who is 1-5 with an ERA of almost five. Let's see what happens.
  20. As the great philosopher Ozzie Guillen once said, "Winning is fun...fun is winning." This is certainly fun and something I can get used to again.
  21. If what you say is true then you can't put it past the Sox FO to be ordering Renteria to keep playing Alonso regardless of how bad he is hoping he'll catch fire and they can save face. That would be very regrettable and I'd lose a lot of respect for Renteria in the process. I think he's a bad manager but a straight-shooter.

  23. Still to early to call one way or the other. He was terrible last season, he's unhittable this season. Who knows for sure.
