Good question. Another guy with a negative WAR rating and a losing record. Guess he fits right in. To say nothing of the fact that he's 32. I guess this is Hahn's idea of "getting pitching help." Although in his defense I'd assume pitching isn't available for another month / six weeks as teams sort themselves out.

So Eloy (assuming he is in the lineup Monday) will have missed 21 games and around three and a half weeks. Not as bad as it could have been I guess but still a blow to his development and the team. He's got to get better defensively or be moved to 1B or DH.

I saw a story a day or so ago where Ricky said going with a bullpen "opener" could be in play for the Houston series.

Unfortunately you are probably going to be waiting a long time given their salaries.

Alonso and Castillo combine to go 0-8 yet Rick insists on keeping them in the middle of the lineup. Can he be that baseball-stupid or is he simply bull headed? And I'm getting close to putting Herrera into the "Rick Hahn failure" off-season to go with the other duds he's acquired.

Minnesota and Detroit both talented teams went out of their minds in the second half and had a win percentage well over 60% as I recall. That happens as often as the Bears win the Super Bowl. The Sox have nowhere near the talent those teams had to make that kind of run. I don't like "giving up" on the season either but I'm getting used to it since the Sox haven't played any meaningful games since September 2012. It's actually not that bad living and dying with every game, every night for six months. (I don't know what that says about me or about the state of the Sox franchise)

I totally agree with your last sentence, but as Tony LaRussa told me one time his issue with me was that I was thinking to "logically". He said there's very little "logic" in the game of baseball.

As I said earlier to someone who said basically the same thing, JR does not like to pay people not to work even if they suck at what they are doing. I would be shocked if he's let go before say July.

Seriously why? I mean it is not like this team is going anywhere this year. Maybe if everyone stayed healthy but with this organization that's not the case anymore. Why give Hahn more chances to royally screw things up and waste even more money giving JR more ammunition to say "no" in the future. I mean they are already eight games behind the Twins and by the time next week is over that could be in double-digits.

Just a suck game in suck weather (46 degrees in mid-May?). Nova's ERA is now about seven and a half, Alonso is hitting .175 (yet Rickey "the Genius" refuses to bench the guy or at least drop him down in the lineup). I can't see this happening and I know others have brought it up before but I'm starting to wonder if Rickey is being told, "keep playing him' because if he's DFA'd or dropped in the lineup it makes "us" (the front office) look like idiots (As if many Sox fans don't already feel that way...) And those clamoring for Palka. Sorry, the guy is useless unless he hits home runs, he's a butcher in the field and is a base clogger running-wise. No thanks.

As much as we all want it, there are nine million reasons it won't happen. JR does not like to pay people to not work, even if they suck at it.

The may or they may not considering how they have been raking in the profits the past few seasons. The question may be better asked how long will owners hold-out, it could be a long time much like 94-95.

First off I used those named simply as an example of when the Sox actually were getting things right with player acquisitions. I could have easily thrown out the names of Podsednik, A.J., Dye, Hernandez et al if that made you feel any better. Second, none of the guys I did mention were ever in any way connected to steroids. Third, you'll be getting your wish soon as the CBA will be changed. The players are going to go on strike to get those changes and the way the situation has been the past few years you can't blame them. Unfortunately that strike is going to come at the expense of when the Sox are supposed to be good which is typical White Sox timing / luck.

You can hope, pray...even use a voodoo doll if that's your pleasure but it is not happening. Not yesterday, not today and not tomorrow as JR has made clear many times because of the tax hit his family would take.
