  1. Saw a story yesterday where Ricky baby said he's making progress running and throwing but they still don't know for sure when he'll be ready. Another EXCELLENT signing by Rick Hahn (sarcasm implied)
  2. Personally I'd cut both of these stiffs and admit that a very high first round pick was blown.
  3. I did a long historical piece on SportsVision, the why's and what went wrong. It also includes an interview with one of the first anchors there Mike Leiderman. Here is the link for any interested: http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/01/the-legacy-of-sportsvision/
  4. In my opinion the best manager the Sox ever had was Al Lopez...just look at his record.
  5. Just some thoughts...yep the Sox the last three years can't seem to keep key pieces at both the major and minor league level healthy. Maybe bad luck if you believe in that. I don't. I think it has something to do with evaluating prospects and draft picks and off season conditioning programs. The Yankees can lose a dozen guys and still win 90 games...the Sox are not even in that discussion when that happens to them. Given next year's free agent class for pitchers remaining and what the salary demands are I just can't see the Sox making that commitment. Maybe via trades but then you have to give something to get something and the Sox can't afford to give up the quality they have. Agree about Covey and Engel, two more mopes who continue to get chances because the Sox are so bad talent-wise in those areas right now. Just can't count on Rodon...period.
  6. Ozzie quit on the team, b****ed to the media about his contract and salary THAT HE SIGNED and was a revolving door of conflict. I appreciate the job he did early in his Sox career but he began to believe his press clippings...no thank you.
  7. USA Today takes a look at baseball's attendance which is down again overall and they say it is not because of the weather: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2019/04/30/mlb-attendance-first-month/3626164002/ In the story they don't mention the Sox by the way, who's TV ratings are up according to a story a saw a few days ago.
  8. Even if they were losing money, JR would not be selling because of the tax hit that he would have to take given what he paid for it in 1981 and what it is worth today.
  9. I saw this video last night, he was on bended knee keeping weight off the ankle. Don't see how one can infer anything for this given the circumstances.
  10. Saw video tonight where before the game Eloy was on bended knee throwing on the sidelines without his walking boot. He said it was "uncomfortable." Very, very surprised the Sox are letting him do this (especially after the Burger situation...) as in taking the boot off and trying to do something. It only takes him to stumble once or lose his balance and twist that ankle again and the situation could get a lot worse.
  11. Always nice to get a win regardless of how bad the opponent is.
  12. Not true at all. In his biography for example Harry wrote that when fans would ask him why did you leave? He answered that he loved Sox fans and Comiskey Park but simply could not stand the owners calling them "assholes."
  13. I've never heard of this one before, details please.
  14. At first he actually did, the 10th Inning show from April 23, 1981 between games of the DH on WGN-TV Harry had them both on as his guests and spoke glowingly about the job they were doing, how they were spending money and bringing excitement back. That changed quickly though.
  15. As I posted from what trainers and doctors have told me depending on how bad the sprain it is usually between six weeks and three months (without surgery)
  16. Just received in the mail today a new book on the life and times of Harry Caray called, "The Legendary Harry Caray" by Don Zminda a member of SABR and an individual who worked for Fox Sports. I have just thumbed through it and will start reading it tonight but from what I have perused the section on the White Sox days are very informative and revealing. I was one of the number of individuals interviews by Zminda and I also provided access to the interviews that I did with former Sox people who knew Harry. I highly recommend this book, it may make a nice Christmas gift for a Sox fan!
  17. I have been told in the past from two different sources that JR on Draft Day has "suggested" to his people whom to take. Now as owner he has the right to do whatever he wishes but I'd hate to be the scouting director say and have to try to tell the guy who signs my pay checks, "no...that's a bad idea." My point is JR should not be doing that in the first place, he doesn't know, like the people who have made a living at this, know baseball and again it is putting those people in a very awkward situation. That's not good business sense in my opinion.
  18. Move Eloy to first, after a number of games in the outfield in the minor leagues he still looks very, very lost. He's as bad and as much of a health risk to himself right now as Delmonico. I'm just happy that Lopez' who had a brilliant game today wasn't hurt worse or perhaps lost it because of an unearned run. Sox scored just enough before he left the game to ensure he wouldn't get screwed like Chris Sale did so many times. Sale would throw a two or three hitter, strike out 12 and lose 2-1 or something like that. Jose is staying hot as well which is very good because Eloy is going to be on the shelf for awhile.
  19. High ankle sprains are very difficult to heal and they take a long time. I'd be surprised if he's back inside of a month. More injury news for a key part of the rebuild. As far as Jones, why would anybody be surprised at this? Time to give him his release as soon as he comes off the IL.
  20. This may be of some help to you: April 7, 1971 - Charlie Finley, the A’s owner, got the first regularly scheduled opening day double header in history but was stunned when the Sox under manager Chuck Tanner beat them twice 6-5 and 12-4. Tommy John and Bart Johnson were the winning pitchers. The Sox clubbed five home runs on the day, including a grand slam by Bill Melton. It should have been six homers except that Carlos May somehow missed touching home plate on his blast. The A’s picked up on it and tagged him out when he was sitting in the dugout. "As I was rounding 3rd base the bench was empty. I mean nobody was in the dugout, they were all at home plate. As I got towards home they mobbed me and I guess I never touched the plate. I don’t know how Gene Tenace saw that I missed it with everybody around. I was in the dugout when Tenace got a new ball, came over and tagged me and the umpire said I was out. I was embarrassed! (laughing)” This was also Harry Caray’s first regular season game as Sox announcer although at the time not a whole lot of folks could hear him. Three straight awful years caused the Sox to lose their radio contract with any ‘mainstream’ Chicago station. For the next two years Sox games were broadcast on WTAQ (LaGrange) and WEAW (Evanston), two low powered stations. And here's the last time that I know of you had a situation like what happened Friday night for the Sox: June 24, 1977 – It was an embarrassing moment for Sox outfielder Ralph Garr and, as it turned out, a costly one for the team. In the third inning of a game in Minnesota, Garr hit what appeared to be a three run home run... however as he was running the bases he passed catcher Jim Essian who waited at first base to make sure the ball was, in fact, a home run. Garr was called out for passing the runner and awarded a two run single. The Sox wound up losing the game 7-6.
  21. Hansen isn't even close to being ready. As up and down as he's been with the seemingly mental issues that bothered him last year on the mound, the worst thing the Sox could do is rush him to get beat up mentally and physically at the big league level. That would be a major mistake. The guy is still working his way back in short relief spots.
  22. I'm guessing they are talking about Cease, Robert, Collins and Burdi.
  23. Rodon's last four straight starts at home have been poor. Very strange.
  24. To answer the question...no. he's another four A player the Sox have in droves.
  25. At this point in time, one would have to say Rick's off season acquisitions (Nova, Alonzo, Santana and Jay) have been nothing short of a major failure.
