  1. Congrats to the front office for making this happen, money be dammed. Another potential building-block piece. Well done!
  2. Q I think now has thrown five straight quality starts. He seems to be over the rough start. Still mind blowing that the guy allows one hit in eight innings and can't get a win. Just incredible.
  3. Hitting very well and producing runs. Defense not well and producing runs (for the opposition) Jose' needs to become the full time DH in my opinion.
  4. St. Louis for 29 million. I really hope I'm wrong but I've been jaded by far to many years of disappointment in things involving the White Sox. But we'll see.
  5. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ May 17, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) Hawkins was a hot mess when he pitched for the Cubs. I do remember that he, Jacque Jones and one other African-American player said when they were on the Cubs they were the target of racial slurs from out of the Wrigley bleachers / stands.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2017 -> 11:31 PM) Amen elrockin. I am in your corner! I HATE losing I hate losing as well and I've seen it seven times in the last ten seasons trying the old method. Since ownership won't change (for now) and the front office won't change (for now) and the philosophy as far as payroll won't change (for now) this was the best that could be hoped for. That's not being a "good" fan or a "bad" fan, that's simply saying the status quo was awful and drastic measures needed to be taken. Losing games to get the highest draft pick possible is for right or wrong, part of the new reality. I suggest we all get used to that idea in my opinion. If you have tapes or DVD from better seasons, I suggest you break them out and start watching them frequently. Again just my opinion. Tonight for example I re-watched Game #3 of the 2005 ALDS at Boston and enjoyed it thoroughly.
  7. Kind of ironic to me that when the Sox were trying to be good ("go for it") they always came up short behind better teams and now that they are rebuilding, other teams (actually a lot of them) are worse and they are coming up a little short from that perspective as well (referring to getting the #1 pick specifically).
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) You did a really good job. I think he's in the middle of something, but I also worry results may be a bit driven by a bad back. Great point. The guy had a bad lower / herniated disc. That's not easy to overcome when you are trying to be a professional athlete. Joe Crede immediately comes to mind.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) Also, after Frazier is dealt. The way Frazier is playing he may be very hard to deal.
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ May 16, 2017 -> 11:47 PM) Predicament?!?!? Yolmer Sanchez is a career .234 MLB hitter in over 700 AB's. He's had a nice start to the season. Yolmer Sanchez has NO baring on what the plan is with the #1 prospect in baseball. NONE. Agree. Sanchez is a utility player...at best. There is no chance, I think, for any issues with Moncada.
  11. QUOTE (striker @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) Quintana + Jones for Dahl, Rodgers, Hoffman, Almonte, Pedro Gonzalez. To me that's an interesting trade proposal, of course Jones has to return and pitch well. No idea if that will happen for him or not this year.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Is Charlie Tilson still alive? Like with everything else about Sox injuries this year, who really knows? Sox haven't been forthcoming with regular news, their initial injury reports and speculation on how long a player is going to be out have also usually been very wrong. Tilson is on the 60 day DL, that's all I know. If (or when) he ever comes back he'll have to prove he can stay healthy before the Sox can figure out if he has a future with the organization.
  13. Pelfrey and Covey are now a combined 0-7 for the season. Folks those guys are really, really bad. ERA's are 5 1/2 and 8 respectively. Lost again in Anaheim. That's something like 13 of 16 there since 2012. Anaheim is the latest in a long line of Sox "House of Horrors." I know some will say, "the Sox are rebuilding...who cares?" I disagree with that notion. These guys are getting bombed out early night after night putting a major strain on the bullpen. That bullpen includes some guys who may be trade pieces in a few months. If they are overworked, ineffective the Sox won't even be able to get a Single A type prospect for any of them. Personally even in a rebuilding year, I'd rather the Sox promote some borderline kids out of the minor league system who may have a future. Give them a shot and see what if anything they can do. And I'm not talking about the top prospects, let them stay in the minors and learn their craft. The Sox may find a kid or two who actually has a future with the team...we know Covey and Pelfrey have no future. Period. Just my opinion.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) Can we really attribute the difference to a different manager? Lower ticket prices? Or the loyal fans sticking it out and being optimistic (for now) about the rebuild? I strongly suspect it's because many Sox fans are in the camp of agreeing it was long past time to rebuild and try something different and they are willing to buy-in for right now.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ May 14, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) Brutal stretch of no days off so yeah Purke is a good guess. Glad to see Asche gone...better late then never. Please though not Purke, he's about as good as Asche only in a different position.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 14, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) And it's early in the season. The guy hustles all the time and is a team leader. I understand your point but it's not quite so early in the season anymore. We're six weeks in, Memorial Day is coming up fast and Todd struggled in a major way last year save for home runs. Interesting stat for today though. Jose Quintana finished with his 60th no-decision since '12, ranking No. 1 in the Majors in this dubious category. He has received two runs or less of support in six of his eight starts this season.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 13, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) I can't see a team being willing to part with significant prospects for kahnle given such a short track record of success though. We're better off keeping him and Fielding calls for Robertson and Jones who are much more proven options. I don't consider Jones a "proven option" though. He just can't stay healthy and has had some serious injuries in his short career. Given that he is hurt again with no timetable for a return I don't think you'll get much for him assuming he comes back and someone is interested.
  18. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 13, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) Well and also the Sox had really really good cores that were worth supplementing the last 17 years. I just feel like the extra 10-20M that was needed each year to finish the job was never there. We'll probably have this same problem again starting in 2021 or so. Maybe...all depends if new ownership is in place by that time.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) I don't think the rebuilding people complain about guys acquired. They will give them all the time they need. They love the new names and want more of them all the time. Actually Greg, I think the "rebuild" people basically want one thing...to start winning again. It wasn't happening over the last decade with the philosophy in place. It was time for a change. Just my opinion.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 12, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) We bring players on board through free agency, the draft or trades and help them develop into successful contributors. All the while complaining as the struggle and learn and develop presumably because they aren't hall of fame level contributors from the get go. Once they find it and succeed we start calling for them to be traded for someone or something. Don't know what or who that might be. How do you build a winning team with that approach? The problem (as evidenced by the seasonal records for most of the past 10 years) is that the Sox haven't been developing enough players who can actually play out of their farm system and regarding trading for guys, that basically hasn't worked out very well either. Over the last few seasons specifically the top six or seven guys on the roster could play with anyone in baseball. The issue was the other 15 or so guys who were mediocre at best often borderline MLB players. There was simply no quality depth on the roster so that when injuries happened there was no one remotely capable of being called up or filling the hole. The records for the past seasons doesn't lie. Massive changes are (were) needed. Since ownership wasn't going to change and the front office wasn't going to change and the financial situation (real or self imposed) wasn't going to change, this "rebuild" philosophy was the best that could be done in my opinion. We'll see if it eventually works out.
  21. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 12, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) Starting to watch less and less of these games, and when I actually do watch, the more I fantasize about a dominant rotation consisting of Quintana, Rodon, Lopez, Giolito/Kopech, and Fulmer, and a lineup consisting of the star Moncada, an Anderson who has figured things out, an April 2017 Avi, an August Abreu, a healthy speedy Charlie Tilson, a nice surprise in Basabe, a 40 homerun hitter in Davidson, an amazing defensive catcher in Collins, etc etc. The future is bright folks. Remain patient. Patience is key. I like the looks of this 2019/2020 lineup: Moncada, Anderson, Abreu, Avi, DH?, Davidson, Basabe?, Collins?, Tilson I wouldn't be counting on Tilson for anything and by 2020 Rodon may be on the trade market because with his agent you know he's going to go free agency and probably (barring new ownership) out of the Sox price range.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) So many established, veteran hitters just come here and "die" It's been happening for awhile now hasn't it? Culture of losing over basically a decade will do that.
  23. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 11, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) Easy Double play has them out of the inning with no runs - instead 4-0 and counting. Abreu is a DH. Tell that to Jose. He apparently feels he is a first baseman and management apparently feels the same way since he's usually out there.
  24. Well it was dog day at the park based on the pictures of the pets I saw...and the Sox played like dogs. Jennings is rapidly lowering himself into being as bad as Pelfrey / Covey and Beck. Keep reminding yourself it's rebuilding and break out the tapes / DVD's from better seasons.
