I've noticed a lot of times after he swings hard and strikes out he's walking back to the dugout shaking his head and talking to himself. I wonder if mentally he's not in a good place right now and that may be carrying over to his fielding. He's been in a slump since coming back after the Braves series.

Good things tend to happen when you hit five home runs in a game. 😄

Can't see the Sox or anyone doing any serious business in the three weeks or so before the lockout. Nobody will know what the terms of the next CBA will be and they won't want to get stuck. Nothing substancial will be done. Would be shocked if any free agents were signed by anybody.

Yes they got their big guns lined up in the series. Just happened to work out that way.

That's been the case the last three times this has happened this month. But for now you enjoy the win, basically a good day. Sox won, Cleveland lost, Detroit lost, Cubs lost, Brewers won. Twins are winning but you can't have everything. Now we'll see what they can do against the Yankees.

That definitely should factor in although I'd say it shouldn't be the main one.

Although this year with the lockout coming no business will be conducted until that is resolved.

All I can say is fingers crossed hope the offense delivers.

Three notations today: July 26, 1916 – Facing just 28 batters in the game, Eddie Cicotte fired a one-hitter in defeating the Yankees, 2-0, at Comiskey Park. Two batters plays kept the game from perfection. In the fourth, Cicotte walked Les Nunamaker, but he was erased when Ray Schalk caught him stealing to end the frame. Then in the top of the fifth, Wally Pipp broke up the no-hitter with a single, then got caught off of first base for a pickoff — only Cicotte made an error on his throw and allowed Pipp to get to second base. Eddie Collins had an RBI triple in the first inning for the White Sox , with ”Shoeless” Joe Jackson adding an RBI single in the fifth. July 26, 1942 – 17-year-old Chuck Comiskey was being groomed to take over the team and his passions boiled over on this afternoon. In the first game against the Athletics at Comiskey Park, umpire John Quinn kicked out Sox manager Jimmy Dykes for arguing an interference call. Don Kolloway was ruled to have run into a batted ball in fair territory in the eighth inning. That brought the young Comiskey out on the field to continue the argument. Sox fans roared their approval over his pluck. It turned out he also was ejected by Quinn. The Sox would win that game 2-1 before losing the second one 3-2 in 10 innings. July 26, 1987 - Sox starter Rich Dotson, who had already thrown a one-hitter and lost in Baltimore in 1983, had a perfect game for over seven innings against the Yankees at Comiskey Park and a 2-0 lead. That however all went out the window when Mike Pagliarulo singled. Before the frame was over, Dotson got tagged with three runs and would eventually lose the game 5-2. The key blow was struck by future Sox outfielder Dan Pasqua who had a pinch-hit three run homer in that frame.

It's really a hard decision that Getz has to make. What happens the rest of the week against the Yankees and Rays will probably decide the situation. If they play well that would show they can stay with arguably the two best teams in the league, if they get beat up, lose say six of seven, that would probably tell Getz a lot as well. In that case I'd agree with you, no sense trading some of your better prospects in the vain hope of making a deep run in the post season, assuming you claimed a spot in the first place. Getz is going to earn his money with this call.

I'm guessing pitchers like Martin and Burke are as well. Let's see if they can salvage a game Sunday before the Yankees come in with that pitching staff now healthy.

I think it's one year you can't trade them but I'm not sure.

Again for those who don't know at one time (1981) JR was against any type of labor impasse/work stoppage. When things got bad and baseball was in the process of losing two months of the 1981 season he was considered one of the "moderate six" owners and was actually quoted as saying the impasse was "stupid" (direct quote) and "we should settle it." (direct quote.) 13 years later he was willing to neuter his own teams chance to get to a World Series in a quest for a salary cap. How things change.

Montgomery in the lineup Sunday: *Colson Montgomery has a sub-.700 OPS since missing the Braves series last month with lower back tightness, but the more immediate physical concern would be that he fouled another pitch off his right leg in the ninth, prompting a trainer visit. For those who don't know these are the MLB owners on the committee that is making recommendations to Manfred on the upcoming labor relations/ lockout: Dick Monfort (Colorado Rockies) Hal Steinbrenner (New York Yankees) John Sherman (Kansas City Royals) Jerry Reinsdorf (Chicago White Sox) Ray Davis (Texas Rangers) Mark Attanasio (Milwaukee Brewers) I found a few things interesting. The only real 'big market' owner on it is Steinbrenner of the Yankees. And he's gone on the record as saying baseball needs a salary cap (coming from the Yankees that is really ironic...) The fact that JR is on it tells me the owners aren't looking to compromise at least early on. I suspect JR will still be trying to 'get even' for what was settled on during the 94-95 impasse. The only real questions are how long will the lockout last and will it impact regular season games.
