QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) We will have closure on Rodon by the end of the week. Ominous.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Jose Abreu, the poster, not the player stated that it doesn't matter how many bases you steal, but how many times you get caught stealing. My point was that it the ratio that matters. That both numbers factor in to it. Sorry if my point did not get across. That's not exactly what I meant but I see how it could've come off that way. I read in Keith Law's book that anyone who can steal bases at a 71% clip or better is most likely helping his team, so at that point, I'm all for stolen bases. If you're 2015 Avisail Garcia, though, my position changes. -

It's not about how many bases you steal, it's about how often you're caught stealing. You can steal 40 bases all you want, but if you're caught 20 times, you're hurting the team. -

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) Stolen bases are overrated as a stat. They're nice, but an out is a lot of risk. I agree. I recall the break-even percentage of stolen bases being a net negative or positive was something like 71%. I do think Moncada can be a high efficiency base stealer though- take Anderson but with more attempts (hopefully) -
65-97.

I personally think he'd be better as a #2 hitter due to his power, but we'll see if it improves as he progresses.

Countless NBA and NFL players have been calling him out this morning. Love it

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) He's running on fumes and had zero strikeouts after only having one his last outing. I guess the Sox are just going to push him as long as his arm feels fine. Omar Narvaez would be an ideal backup catch on the next good Sox team. Maybe even a starter if he can improve his framing somewhat. People don't really like Narvaez due to his framing, but he's actually a surprisingly adequate offensive catcher- his eye and on base abilities coupled with the low strikeout rate are rare at his position. I think that he would actually be one of the better starting catchers in baseball if he could be a better framer.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) People like to pile on Benetti, but that was by far his best call of the year. I don't like Benetti's question-asking style of broadcasting, but this was a terrific call.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:45 AM) This team just seems to love playing together and it's fun to watch. May not mean anything, I had same feeling in 14 when Moises sierra was on team. But breath of fresh air after all the drama last year. I miss that guy. He was a good 4th OF and I'm surprised he hasn't been in the Majors since then. He's been killing it in the minors ever since and he had an absolute cannon of an arm, topped off by his energy and clubhouse presence.

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:27 PM) This season was about obtaining a top 3 pick, if we get fourth or 5th it will be a letdown. I don't mind wins that occur because our future plays great, but these wins where guys who wont be here make the difference suck. Just like the Bears needed to be in top position to grab a qb last year, and the Bulls need a top 3 pick to grab one of the three studs coming into the NBA next year. This isn't the NBA, and there's no consensus top-3 guy that is an absolute must-draft. Picking anywhere in the top 5 is absolutely fine

QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) Most of that article has already been discussed here in some way or another, but I did find this blurb interesting. Wouldn't be very Sox like, but if the right deal came along with the right prospects coming back, taking on a bad contract for 2 years would make sense. Agreed. I could see us taking on Kemp (thru 2019, some money paid for by SD/LAD/and potentially ATL), Markakis (thru 2018), or even Yasmany Tomas (thru 2020) in order to get a prospect; I have no idea what caliber of prospect we'd get in such a deal, though.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) A good trivia question from back in the day. I'm not sure if it's still true as I haven't researched it. Who is the only player to drive himself in as many times as he drove others in while hitting 30 or more HRs? For example 30 HR and 60 RBI Actually just read a book (Keith Law's Smart Baseball) that said -
The fact that he could realistically finish with an OPS over .700, given where it was a month ago and during the ASB, is incredible.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Daryl Van SchouwenVerified account @CST_soxvan 21h21 hours ago Jose Abreu needs 2 RBI to record 100-plus RBI in his first 4-plus seasons. The others: Al Simmons, Albert Pujols, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio Getting to 100 RBIs would also make him one of 4 players to have 100+ RBI and 25+ HR in his first four seasons (DiMaggo, Williams, Pujols) -
Terrific day for the tank overall

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) The only guy who will need (in my guess) adding will be Charlie Tilson. Charlie who?
