Moncada's Future Role
I personally think he'd be better as a #2 hitter due to his power, but we'll see if it improves as he progresses.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Countless NBA and NFL players have been calling him out this morning. Love it

Maybe my favorite play of the year
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) He's running on fumes and had zero strikeouts after only having one his last outing. I guess the Sox are just going to push him as long as his arm feels fine. Omar Narvaez would be an ideal backup catch on the next good Sox team. Maybe even a starter if he can improve his framing somewhat. People don't really like Narvaez due to his framing, but he's actually a surprisingly adequate offensive catcher- his eye and on base abilities coupled with the low strikeout rate are rare at his position. I think that he would actually be one of the better starting catchers in baseball if he could be a better framer.

Maybe my favorite play of the year
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) People like to pile on Benetti, but that was by far his best call of the year. I don't like Benetti's question-asking style of broadcasting, but this was a terrific call.

Maybe my favorite play of the year
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:45 AM) This team just seems to love playing together and it's fun to watch. May not mean anything, I had same feeling in 14 when Moises sierra was on team. But breath of fresh air after all the drama last year. I miss that guy. He was a good 4th OF and I'm surprised he hasn't been in the Majors since then. He's been killing it in the minors ever since and he had an absolute cannon of an arm, topped off by his energy and clubhouse presence.

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:27 PM) This season was about obtaining a top 3 pick, if we get fourth or 5th it will be a letdown. I don't mind wins that occur because our future plays great, but these wins where guys who wont be here make the difference suck. Just like the Bears needed to be in top position to grab a qb last year, and the Bulls need a top 3 pick to grab one of the three studs coming into the NBA next year. This isn't the NBA, and there's no consensus top-3 guy that is an absolute must-draft. Picking anywhere in the top 5 is absolutely fine

Three Needs: Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) Most of that article has already been discussed here in some way or another, but I did find this blurb interesting. Wouldn't be very Sox like, but if the right deal came along with the right prospects coming back, taking on a bad contract for 2 years would make sense. Agreed. I could see us taking on Kemp (thru 2019, some money paid for by SD/LAD/and potentially ATL), Markakis (thru 2018), or even Yasmany Tomas (thru 2020) in order to get a prospect; I have no idea what caliber of prospect we'd get in such a deal, though.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) A good trivia question from back in the day. I'm not sure if it's still true as I haven't researched it. Who is the only player to drive himself in as many times as he drove others in while hitting 30 or more HRs? For example 30 HR and 60 RBI Actually just read a book (Keith Law's Smart Baseball) that said

Tim Anderson
The fact that he could realistically finish with an OPS over .700, given where it was a month ago and during the ASB, is incredible.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Daryl Van SchouwenVerified account @CST_soxvan 21h21 hours ago Jose Abreu needs 2 RBI to record 100-plus RBI in his first 4-plus seasons. The others: Al Simmons, Albert Pujols, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio Getting to 100 RBIs would also make him one of 4 players to have 100+ RBI and 25+ HR in his first four seasons (DiMaggo, Williams, Pujols)

Reds Claim DJ Peterson from White Sox

Trade avi in the offseason?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) .390 BABIP is not sustainable. .320 or so could be for him and that should still lead to some decent years. Does he have enough in game power for a corner OF spot? I'm very curious to see what the Sox do here. They need to decide whether to extend him or trade him. If I were betting, I'd guess that they deal him this offseason and try to sell high. Given how good he is at infield hits and beating out choppers, I do think he profiles as a guy who can sustain an above average BABIP, probably no higher than .350

Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:11 PM) Agree. Why did we draft him so high? Same criticism back then. I can't believe any team would draft Chris Sale. His delivery was so violent and crazy!

Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) He's hitting .230 and his OPS is somewhere near .770. Once things get to normal with him and hits falling/getting comfortable within the strike zone, he's already on a path to being a top 3 2b in the AL soon. OPS is actually a stellar .785 now. Even better

Adam Engel
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) That's not totally true. His range metrics were worse than Leury at least last I checked. But doesn't Leury also have very good range?
