Hamilton and Buxton are probably the only true 80s out there. Moncada may be a 75/80

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) I don't have an opinion on the matter, but I'll just say it's really hard to get a good bearing on a CF unless you see them get a ton of reps in person, not on TV. You can't see their jumps, reads and instincts on TV. To that point, I remember being very discouraged with Engel's jumps and reads (both on TV and in person) during his first few weeks here, but he has improved greatly in that department since.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) I thought I had read that they mishandled signing him on as an ambassador. That's correct- despite the reports of us having signed him, we screwed it up and he never actually ended up signing -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Still no idea why this was ever in Soxtalk. Was it supposed to be at GRF ? Chance the Rapper ties ? Still oddly out of place. It was supposed to be at GRF, so I guess that's why -
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) I think he was trying to make a point that saying "If Adam Engel could only hit XYZ, he would be a really good player" is the same as saying if Saladino, Sanchez and Alvarez could just hit XYZ, they would be really good players." I also see his point. I like what Engel has brought to the table for a very bad team in 2017, but he hasn't shown me much in terms of being any sort of impact player for when this team hopefully is ready to compete. He falls into the same group as Saladino, Sanchez, ect. of those role player guys that are really the 24th and 25th men on a good baseball team. I see- couldn't tell if that's what he meant from the original post but it makes sense. I agree there, he's nothing more than a late inning pinch runner/defensive sub, although I doubt we'd be able to utilize his speed on the basepaths.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) I just think if Tyler Saladino could hit .270 with 25HR he would be a good fit. Same with Yolmer. You know who else impresses me in the minors? Eddy Alvarez.. if he could hit .250 with 25hrs he could be our next SS for 5-7 years. I can't stand this board sometimes. He's never hit more than 7 hr's in a season. He's not figuring it out now at 25 years old. This is the biggest contradiction ever. Saladino, Sanchez, and Alvarez have never hit more than 9 home runs in a season, yet they apparently have the potential to hit 25. Engel has never hit more than 7 home runs in a season, yet he's the one out of the four that's apparently not going to figure it out and become a sudden home run hitter, despite being the youngest. This was either a remarkably poorly informed post or a troll attempt.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Leury has done very well, but he does not have Engel's upside and he is not really a good defensive centerfielder. Regarding Engel's arm. My understanding is that his arm is highly regarded. Here is what Future Sox had to say: "Engel has true plus-plus speed, a strong arm and elite athleticism. He's gotten body comps to Mike Trout, and he's got enough strength that some scouts see latent power potential he's yet to tap into. Defensively, he's a true center fielder who tracks well, has the speed to cover a lot of ground and a very good arm, so that's already a foundation to work from." I just think that if he could hit .250 with an OBP of .330 plus and hit 20 - 25 homers, he would be a terrific player, the way he plays centerfield. I don't think Leury is a poor defensive CF, although Engel is obviously better. Regarding his arm, I was unaware of that write-up, but every metric and the eye test have shown that his arm is nothing special. We'll see if it improves

Lack of ticket sales? They did a completely horrendous job promoting it. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) He has plus-plus speed, great instincts, a good glove and a very good arm. I'm 100% behind giving him the CF job, next year and giving him every opportunity to figure it out. You find fast, good defensive centerfielders, but rarely one with potential power and a good arm. It is so intriguing. I think his arm is actually below average- and what about Leury?

QUOTE (Real @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 04:28 AM) He needs to hit more XBH to make his defense tolerable Yeah, his average to above average defense is a real pain when his OPS is only in the .860s. /green

QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:14 PM) We have three guys from this list. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015/?list=tex That was considered to be a really good farm, right?

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:09 PM) Yes, we all have very informed opinions right now. It's not just mine, it's the scouts' opinions + their minor league performance

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) I read a write up. About what I'd expect. Sorta like Yrizzari Yrizzari is an actual prospect though, while this guy is just minor league filler IMO

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) MY guess is that if the Sox thought there was any chance he'd be moved today, he would not be pitching today. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Bingo. He would have been long since gone. HA
