Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
Jose Abreu replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) now they claim he didn't throw hard because of a stomach ache. This keeps getting weirder. -
Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST

Dan HayesVerified account @CSNHayes Don Cooper said if all goes right Carlos Rodon would make start in first 5 or 6 reg season games. Also said Rodon dealt w/ arm stuff in '16. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Your assumption is based on him not being ready? WOW I'm pretty sure he's trolling

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST

I don't get it. A "measured approach" to reduce his workload = him missing the beginning of the season? But he's healthy? -
Quintana and Melky for Devers, Groome, Swihart, and Travis. Bet the house.

QUOTE (restinpiss @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Keith Law has him at #47 in front of Vlad Jr. Exactly.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Hard part is, it is still tough to evaluate. Tatis Jr. looks promising (unfortunately he's a Padre). It takes a long time for these guys to become much of anything and it really hasn't been that long since the whole Wilder fiasco and the related scandal, then add in the fact that Paddy hasn't been around that long (in the scheme of developing 16 year old kids...you really are talking 5-7 years of doing your thing in a space before you get a good idea). We should be at the point where we start seeing some of these guys emerge as they come into the states though and I'm hoping that is a trend we start to see here in 2017 / 2018 (as we are getting to that point in the window, imo). I feel like Sox fans are overrating Tatis Jr. because they're unhappy with how the Shields trade went. I still think he's not really a big time prospect. Had he remained on the White Sox, I doubt he'd be getting much attention.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
Jose Abreu replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Every time I open Soxtalk, I read "Robertson to WASH" and get excited for like, .5 seconds before reading the rest of the title. Don't know how it gets me every time, but it does. -
They're good quality from MLB.com. I believe that MLB.com and Fanatics are really the same exact site, so you should be good. May depend on if you bought the custom authentic one (I think usually around $250) or the custom regular one (like $120).

QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) I'll be there, even though I think the Sox will bring blasts from the pasts back for ticket sales purposes. I went to Konerko's last game, the World Series 10 year reunion and Konerko's jersey retirement ceremony - the place was packed and actually energized for a change. OT, but there really is nothing like an energized Comiskey. Only happens a few times a year now. For me, the last pure "this is awesome" feeling I got due to the energy was Frazier's big 3-run blast against the Cubs last season.

I was waiting for this to happen. I know it was still unconfirmed for a while whether or not he would come back or not.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) Ah, I was going by fWAR which I've found to be better. I've always thought that fWAR was better for pitchers, and bWAR for position players.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) Not many though. What if the rule had always been put up 4 fingers and the batter goes to first base? I bet a lot of us would think it would be really dumb to change it to make the pitcher actually throw balls. Sure, but

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) I get the idea that something could happen, but when we are talking about two examples in 45 years, that is pretty damning to be honest. There have been far more than 2 wild pitches on IBB attempts in the last 45 years. The swings on IBB attempts are rare (Gary Sanchez hit a sac fly on one this year, too), sure, but not wild pitches.

So the Celtics are misinforming the national analysts in an attempt to pressure the Bulls. Kind of what the Sox do with Nightengale. This is a non-story. Some headway was made yesterday but they're still very far apart
-
I don't like this, but for a different reason. There are very rare cases where a pitcher is attempting to intentionally walk a batter, but instead throws a wild pitch, or the hitter swings, or somebody (ex: Miguel Cabrera, 2006) gets an RBI knock off an attempted intentional walk. Sure, these cases happen very rarely, but they impact the games greatly when they do happen; eliminating the formality of throwing the four balls prevents them from ever happening, which, in my opinion, is wrong.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) At this point, it's more likely that Boston lands Paul George by the deadline than Butler. The Bulls and Celtics are farther apart on this than people seem to be reporting. Chicago is not intrigued at all by Boston's latest offer. Unless they have a major change of heart, or another team comes out of left field, Butler will remain a Bull for the rest of the season at least. I take this back. Celtics have had a change of heart.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) Did I say it would happen? Can you tell me what Rick Hahn is having for dinner next Thursday if you can tell the future? At least give him a better question. The answer is obviously the hearts of Nationals fans.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) All usual BS ST fluff stories aside Avi Garcia looks much better than he has in the past. I saw two pictures of him and he looks great. Someone told me if he sucks or doesn't make the team it's not for lack of effort. I think he sucks and the Sox should have cut ties last year but he does seem to have a lot of fans in the org. The guy works. Gotta respect him for that. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I can't boo guys like Avi. It is one thing for a guy to just not be good at baseball, but it is quite another for them to be lazy, a bad teammate, a horrible person, etc. Save the ire for those kinds of guys. Yeah, I like both of these posts. He's not what we hoped he'd be, but man, he works hard. I still remember his second season here, when he was out for the year with an injury, but he worked his ass off to get healthy and back into shape before returning in August or September.
