Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 08:44 PM) To expand and show just how few pitchers do accrue 2 WAR. There were 53 starters who qualified for the ERA title that had a 2.0 WAR. There are no relievers who accrued 120 innings, thus getting the full picture of starting pitchers who accrue 2 WAR. If anything, it helps my argument. Had I just used those that qualified, I'm discounting 18 starting pitchers who did accumulate 2 WAR who did not pitcher a theoretical full season. They still accrued 2+ WAR. My bad, I was thinking along the lines of WAR being a cumulative stat, and not about the innings qualifications. Thanks.

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) Capping starting pitchers innings at 120, there were 71 pitchers in the majors who put up a 2.0 WAR or better. That is roughly 2.5 for each team, out of 5 necessary full time starting pitchers. Calling someone who is worth 2 WAR "just a guy" is preposterous. A starting pitcher putting up 2.0 WAR is very valuable and not easy to find. Mat Latos, Jacob Turner, Anthony Ranaudo - those are JAGs. I agree with you, but why this? Doesn't it hurt your argument?

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 06:45 PM) Because you disagree? How do you know that Moncada will hit for average and power like Benintendi? No, because you were expecting a 21 year old AA player to start on a rebuilding MLB team. Even if he were in Boston, he'd be in the minors to start the year. And how do you know for sure that Benintendi will hit for average and power? From his whopping 34 MLB games?

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) I like Diaz as a potential back of the pen arm but would have preferred a hitter. With Boston set on Devers being their 3B of the future, I think it's possible Dalbec could been expendable in the eyes of Boston. Who knows, maybe Hahn tried and DD said no. At the deadline- Robertson and Frazier/Melky for Dalbec, Swihart, filler(s)?

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
Haven't read a post of this thread so this may be redundant but: C: Narvaez/Smith 1B: Abreu 2B: Saladino/Sanchez 3B: Frazier SS: Anderson LF: Cabrera CF: Tilson/L. Garcia RF: A. Garcia DH: Davidson/Hayes (RH/LH platoon, because I had 24 players and needed another) SP: Quintana, Rodon, Shields, Gonzalez, Holland RP: Robertson, Jones, Jennings, Ynoa, Putnam, Petricka, Burdi

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) The deal was awesome for the Sox, whats the issue? That's debatable. While I'm not upset about our return, I still think we could've gotten more. Moncada/Kopech and Diaz as a wild card are fine, but I wish our 3rd piece was better. I know Devers would be unrealistic, but I feel like getting Groome over Basabe would have been a better reflection of Sale's value.

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) Help me understand something: Rodon's been pretty mediocre so far in his career; where some see promise in his Sept/Oct results last year, I see a "garbage time hero." He's been a bit of a China Doll so far in his career, with injuries in every season sidelining him, and now whatever this latest issue may be... He's represented by Greed Incarnate, who will never ever agree to a contract extension here. Why is Rodon considered to be a part of this team's core again? Thanks in advance. Not every top prospect comes up like Chris Sale and instantly dominates. Rodon has improved and improved, and had a very strong finish to the season last year. He has ace potential.

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 05:15 PM) No it doesn't. All was said is that he was slightly under the weather with a stomach thing, but they wanted to keep him on schedule so they had him throw today as originally planned. Read page 4 of this thread. It's not just that, it's the news that he may miss the beginning of the season. Since that came out, a new tidbit about his health has come out every half hour.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) now they claim he didn't throw hard because of a stomach ache. This keeps getting weirder.

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
Dan HayesVerified account @CSNHayes Don Cooper said if all goes right Carlos Rodon would make start in first 5 or 6 reg season games. Also said Rodon dealt w/ arm stuff in '16.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
I don't get it. A "measured approach" to reduce his workload = him missing the beginning of the season? But he's healthy?

2017 International Signings
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Hard part is, it is still tough to evaluate. Tatis Jr. looks promising (unfortunately he's a Padre). It takes a long time for these guys to become much of anything and it really hasn't been that long since the whole Wilder fiasco and the related scandal, then add in the fact that Paddy hasn't been around that long (in the scheme of developing 16 year old kids...you really are talking 5-7 years of doing your thing in a space before you get a good idea). We should be at the point where we start seeing some of these guys emerge as they come into the states though and I'm hoping that is a trend we start to see here in 2017 / 2018 (as we are getting to that point in the window, imo). I feel like Sox fans are overrating Tatis Jr. because they're unhappy with how the Shields trade went. I still think he's not really a big time prospect. Had he remained on the White Sox, I doubt he'd be getting much attention.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
Every time I open Soxtalk, I read "Robertson to WASH" and get excited for like, .5 seconds before reading the rest of the title. Don't know how it gets me every time, but it does.
