QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) My little cousins go to DGN. I wonder if they've ever noticed Jose Abreu walking around. If they have the same last name as you then I think I know one of them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Realistically, LaRoche has a history of being a good hitter, and Viciedo has a history of being a mediocre to bad one. The odds of getting a decent season out of Viciedo are WAY lower, than the they are for LaRoche. Let me put it this way, Dayan has one season which had only 106 PAs in it, which had a higher OPS than LaRoche's career average OPS. I know Viciedo isn't good. This isn't directed at you, but don't label me as some huge Viciedo fan, like Greg and Danks. He's bad, but I'm arguing that he could have a better DH season than LaRoche. I know LaRoche has a good history, but he is in a serious decline. I don't expect anything from him next year.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 08:53 AM) Based on his whole career, Laroche has been far better than Viciedo. Do you really think, if given the same number of 2016 PA's, LaRoche would outperform Viciedo?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) LMAO, do you even remember his career? His first full season was in 2012... so yes, I do.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) He's probably the kid getting a swirly. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) He told the school bully that Dayan Viciedo is a major leaguer and the bully had enough. Wow, this is so accurate!

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) Wow. Based on 150 AAA appearances? Should be noted that he was bad in the ultimate hitters' league in Oakland's system before that. Not just based on 150 AAA appearances. Based on his whole career. He was a far better hitter for us than LaRoche has been, thus I think Viciedo is a better DH hitter. He even has more power.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

I think this should be the new Soxtalk banner. -
How many of last off-seasons "big" moves would the Sox make

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 20, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) The problem with hindsight is that they are all connected in regards to competing in 2015. Melky doesn't got signed without Samardzija or Robertson and vice versa. So it's hard to just question one transaction. Samardzija was the biggest surprise, there weren't any major warning signs for him to perform this bad. Robertson was fine. (Although unnecessary ) LaRoche is old, so can't be surprised he performed so badly Melky should have been better, but the whole steroids thing To be fair, there were a few warning signs that Samardzija would be a bust, we just didn't see or want to see them. An example would be that 2014 was his only #1/#2 starter type season. And the steroids thing was in 2012. Melky was very good in 2014 steroid-free. He has had a decent year for us, too- and yeah, cool, I know what his fWAR is, but we signed him knowing that his D is bad. .276/11/73 is not bad. -
Fuller was fantastic for the first half of last season, then he completely faded.
-
DeMarco Murray has what, 11 rushing yards this season? On pace for an 88-yard year!
-
I think he should DH. Or at least platoon DH, with the occasional start at 1B/LF/RF to give guys a rest.
-
I hope we get to see the Geovany Soto vs Giovanni Soto matchup tomorrow.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Too lazy to look it up. Did Dayan improve his eye at the plate? I thought somebody said he was hitting .300 with seven homers and a lotta ribbies. Has he reinvented himself for next season? 36 games at AAA Charlotte: .341 AVG, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 13 BB, 23 SO, 138 AB

I went with just Melky. Maybe Robertson too. -
I wish Geovany Soto were playing. We could have seen Geovany Soto face Giovanni Soto.

Eaton is now hitting .279 on the year. Since the start of May, he is hitting .292.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) I would hope he didn't make many errors at DH... Maybe he accidentally tipped a water cooler over, causing it all to spill. Or accidentally spilled the bucket of gum all over the dugout floor.

Umpiring has been brutal. Rodon has been great, though, per usual since that start against the Cards.
-
Ventura on Rodon: "If he does or doesn’t win rookie of the year, doesn’t mean anything about what’s going to happen next year." What are Rodon's ROY chances? His main competition, I'd say, is Correa of Houston, but he has cooled off a bit. Granted, he's still at .273/18/52 in just 85 games. Rodon is 7-6 with a 3.94 ERA/3.85 FIP entering tonight's start. His 1.76 ERA since 8/11 is the lowest in the American League and 5th-lowest in majors. FWIW, if you take out his two terrible outings (vs PIT/STL) he has a 3.12 ERA. Abreu was the 2014 AL ROY. Could Rodon win it in 2015?

Didn't know Drake LaRoche was still with the team. I guess it's because the Sox stopped constantly tweeting/instagram posting about him. Does that kid ever go to school?
-
I think he gets 3 starts. Needs 14 K's per start to get there. Won't happen. He will pass Walsh and get the single-season Sox record, though (barring injury). I agree that he should pitch to contact more.
