Fascinating but also disappointing. Not the article itself but the findings. Basically tells me that there's no one size fits all approach at evaluating BABIP and that every player needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

For these reasons and many others, it's reasonable to conclude that what he is doing is relatively sustainable. I have actually been pleasantly surprised by the lack of "but look at his BABIP, clearly he's just lucky" posts/narratives.

For all I've heard about Collins' defense being laughably bad, I expected him to be a train wreck behind the plate. Instead, he has actually looked pretty good defensively. Not sure why people are continuing to push the "Collins sucks defensively" narrative when there's no evidence at the MLB level to prove that it's true.

What I don't get is your expectations for his BABIP. Why does his lack of strikeouts influence his BABIP in any way? What matters is his quality of contact, which I don't know enough about, but I haven't seen anything to suggest that his contact profile is so good that he'll be Moncada or Judge like with his BABIP

Ceiling? I don't know enough about his contact profile to estimate a BABIP but maybe somewhere around .330/.380/.480 with good defense? More realistically, I think he's a solid .300/.350/.450 guy long-term.

I like Madrigal but my god people are going to be disappointed with him because of unrealistic expectations. .350 average with a .908 OPS??

Madrigal has been on fire lately and Vaughn has only played a handful of games. I had Vaughn at #3 (and Madrigal at #5). Once he starts hitting, I think that will become a more popular opinion. It's nothing against Madrigal either, just that Vaughn is going to be an absolute monster.

He was the #38 prospect in baseball per MLB.com in 2016. For a waiver claim, nothing to complain about.

Get him stateside

I'm really surprised that I'm the only person to have Gonzalez in the top 10 so far. He was better than Walker in A+ and has had some bad BABIP luck this year.

Eloy has actually looked pretty decent defensively since he returned from injury.

.829 OPS and 115 wRC+ now. A 2 year extension, with the 2nd year being a team or mutual option, would be nice

Ha, didn't mean to start a war with my comment. It's in the suburbs so parking is easy. When I worked downtown last year I would just take a train every day. Thank you! It's very convenient because it's also a nice little source of income during the school year when I work remotely part-time. Congrats on your new job as well.

It's a job that I work full time during the summer and part time (remotely) while I'm at college. If I had it my way, I would work from home every day but it's an easy 20 minute commute, laid back atmosphere, and I tend to be really punctual so I get there early just out of habit.

Obviously every place is different but I'm working for a small company (35 employees) in the western suburbs and it's extremely laid-back and flexible. My hours are technically 8-5 with half days on Fridays but I come and go as I please as long as I am working 9 hours per day (and half on Fridays). So I usually end up coming in from like 730-430, and even though I'm 19, I'm trusted to do my job and am not constantly being micromanaged or anything. I had a similar experience last summer at a tech start-up downtown. I think a lot of it depends on the age of ownership. In both cases my superiors are generally young (<40) and have a more relaxed attitude about the little things. Their only concern is that I do the work I'm supposed to do and complete it within those 9 hour days. They don't care about the exact minutes I'm working, whether I do some work at home, or whether I'm wearing a tie. That's the way it should be in most places, IMO.

Much, much better than what he has been getting in Charlotte. With an average AAA defense his ERA would be well under 4, IMO.
