Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
That is not the word in the Boston media. The thinking is they want to drop about $20 MIL which they will get w Porcello. The question is do they keep Betts and make another run at the playoffs and take their chances he resigns. Or trade him and get a good return. Obviously JDM plays into that as well since it would be harder to make the playoffs if he leaves. Their new GM has his work cut out for him.

Chavis hit 18 HR in 350 AB replacing Pedroia. He also plays 3B and IB. They will not want Madrigal. Vaughn would be a better idea.

A Realistic Offseason
I assume Holt( he makes $3.75) will take a home town discount to stay in Boston so we would have to pay a premium. But Yolmer gets $4.625 already so that could be doable

Probably wasn't an Oakland fan alive either.

Don't think you have to go that high. Mookie gets $20Mil now. If Trout(37)-Machado(32) and Harper (27) are the competition, I would think Mookie could be had for 10/$350. Maybe he wants #1 so worse case 10/$380. The White Sox could certainly pay that since they don't have any huge contracts on the books for 22. But I would assume the Red Sox will not trade Betts until just before ST if at all. I don't think Hahn can wait that long unless he wants him only for a rental. I don't see him spending big bucks in FA and then going after Mookie ( unless his budget is $175+ for 22.)

Cooper is 63. He is probably waiting until 66 for his SS....................................

2020 Coaching Changes
To his credit, Anderson made changes. “It was taking his experiences, bottling them up and dealing what was good and what was bad and what needed to be adjusted and fixed,” Steverson said. “I put the work in and it’s showing,” Anderson said. Anderson is standing taller in his stance, is chasing fewer bad pitches, and is hitting curveballs at a .311 clip. As Steverson puts it, the barrel action is creating more accuracy. Timing is everything, and “better timing has allowed him to make better decisions.” https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2019/9/25/20884709/white-sox-tim-anderson-batting-title-indians

2020 Coaching Changes
What about Anderson? McCann here vs Detroit? TA has taken a solid jump at the plate which like Moncada has to be attributed to Steverson. The overall offensive numbers are bad but the core players for next year Abreu, Anderson, Moncada, Eloy and McCann all made improvement at the plate this season. With the dearth of offensive talent after that group, it may be hard to determine how effective the hitting coaches are.

Agree. Sounds like he wants to test the market regardless. I think he will insist on leading off and playing CF wherever he goes but with that ability the team will say yes.

State of Chicago baseball: the tipping point
Success can affect that. I live in New England and Florida. Football by far rules in NE but Hockey( amazing as that may sound) rules in Tampa.

2020 RF options
Last year we could have had Machado if the price was right since it was us and Padres. Maybe the Sox will not attract the top tier FA but they should be able to open their wallets to the 2nd level and get quality players.

Who would still want Maddon?
Did Joey Cora leave on bad terms? He is a former player and coach, speaks Spanish, good amount of experience and would come at a reasonable salary. Still on the younger side for a manager. Not sure he has been mentioned, though, for many jobs.

9/22/2019 White Sox v. Tigers
He is only 25. He had a decent year last year and a lousy year this year. I do think it makes sense they head into ST w him having to compete for the 4-5 spot depending on status of Kopech and Rodon plus who they add off-season.

2020 RF options
The Dolphins have only had one winning season in the last 10 years. Now the media says they are tanking. They are trying to go from lousy to the worst of the lousy.

Who would still want Maddon?
I thought Maddon did a great job in Tampa. Limited financial resources and limited fan support playing in one of if not the best divisions in MLB. With the Cubs he got both financial resources and fan support. He has a .541 career win %. That is better than Terry Francona. Maddon has had a lot of success but like most managers he has some baggage. But winning has not been a problem so far. I would love to see us get a young manager like Minny did. But that would most likely be a gamble since we might get someone w their first job. I do think Girardi is an interesting choice but hahn would have to find out what went wrong in NY.

White Sox final win total
Before we even get to FA, the FO has to decide on the status of the coaching staff. Bringing back RR, McEwing, Steverson and Cooper will also be "frustration for sure". Based on the improvement we have seen, I think Steverson should be retained.

I don't think we can dump all this in Renteria's lap
Maybe the red flag is long-term front office personnel in both franchises.

Jimenez, Cease ranked 4th and 18th in long-term values
I would take Tatis who is on pace for 43 HR, hits for a high average and is 2 years younger. A shortstop adds much more value than a DH. Tatis also is a threat on the bases.

I do think Jerry will open up his wallet this off-season and spend money. But I still am concerned that he has drastically cut payroll on both his professional teams over the last 5 years or so. Hopefully at this point Jerry is listening to his sports FO people and not his CFO.

GT - (9/13) White Sox at Mariners, 9:10 pm, WGN
How rare is it to have the league leader in RBIs on a 90 loss team. Jose is running away w the AL and may even catch the NL leaders before the month is out. I guess those .300 hitters give him opportunities for RBIs.

Better than at the plate.

I agree but I don't follow the $5 Mil. Do you think he would get $5 in arbitration? Brock Holt is a FA in 2020, plays IF/OF and he makes $3. I think 3-3.5 is going rate for a 1.5ish utility guy.

The Free Agent I want to sign more than any other
I think the problem was Ventura never coached. Now Aaron Boone didn't either but he is doing pretty well. Then again, look at the roster he has to work with. Cora in Boston and Baldelli in Minny served as coaches and both were surrounded w experienced guys around them.

The Free Agent I want to sign more than any other
Terry Francona is another guy who failed in his first job in Philly and then won 2 World Series in Boston. That is why I said they have to examine how good they think Omar is. Using your standard of lack of success in a MLB job, how do you judge minor league coaching? Omar has had 2 losing seasons in AA. But that to me means nothing. When the time comes, it will be interesting to see how much analytics plays into the guy chosen. If the Sox FO is gung ho w numbers then they will need a numbers guy in the dugout. If not, they will need an old-school manager.
