  1. Sandy Leone was available but not someone I would want. I would have liked Swihart as a placeholder for Collins for his bat and versatility but I don't know if he was available. He supposedly was this winter

Time for RR to move him down to 5th again and cool him off....................
  3. Maybe the FO thinks whatever is troubling Frare can be fixed in Charlotte easier than in Chicago. Osich just ends up being the temporary replacement until Frare looks capable of contributing at the MLB level. Not every player improves at the MLB level. Looks like the FO doesn't think Coop can fix him.
  4. Martinez had 12 game winning RBI's last year. But he also had a major influence on Mookie Betts whose average jumped 80 points. Agree on free agents. They are not concerned about the success rate Price is 39-19 w them. Good but not an ace. So they go out and add Sale. I was glad to see Theo go after he won 2 World Series. But their ownership spends and since Theo left they won 2 more. Frustrating to watch.
  5. Sometimes. Boston won a World Series last year and free agent JD Martinez was a major reason why. But I think trades are the key to filling the holes the organization does not produce.
  6. It depends on who is measuring it. Certainly fans would agree. But I bet JR sees the bottom line and thinks that is success. If Kenny and Hahn are well paid, they too are probably content if JR is happy. Obviously Kenny and Hahn have stayed in this organization for a long time despite JR not being committed to winning as the ultimate measure of success.
  7. Remember that more than 50% of baseball's Top 100 Prospects fail. When we traded for Gio,he was not considered a wildcard. But I understand he probably is now. If as you say only 4 of the rebuild players should be on the roster going forward, then we need another 8 prospects out of our 16 best to make it to the MLB roster and be solid contributors. I Think Rodon may be more valuable to us than he will on the trade market. https://www.royalsreview.com/2018/3/22/16749948/updating-the-success-and-failure-rates-of-top-mlb-prospects
  8. When I look at this rebuild, I would say that Rodon, Lopez, Gio, Anderson, Eloy and Moncada are all key elements of it. Phase 1 Phase 2 to me is Cease, Kopech, Burdi, Collins, Robert, Madrigal. Ironically that is 6 pitchers and 6 positional players. One or two others will develop in the minors and become part of the core. A few of the above will fizzle out. So half of our rebuild pieces , to me, are already on the MLB roster. If this year is worst than last, the rebuild may be longers than we think. Right now, the positional players are off to a good start but the pitchers are struggling. Really early but when we get to September , we need to see at least most of the 6 having solid years. Trading Rodon only sets the overall rebuild back unless you hit gold w the return. Especially since Gio, Lopez, Cease and Kopech are all RH.
  9. I have come to the conclusion that a new manager won't help. A new pitching coach won't help. A new hitting coach won't help. They need an exorcist.
  10. I had a similar experience as a kid at Fenway. Back in the 50's Fenway was not that crowded. I was 8 and ran after a ball in an empty aisle and was bending down to get it when a man coming the other direction dived and smothered it. That is probably why the next time I got a ball 50 years later, I gave it to the closest kid to our seat.
  11. It is because they play half their games indoors...............
  12. !00% agree. Last time I got a ball was in Tampa and I gave it to the closest kid. Every kid dies to get a ball. As an adult, I could care less except maybe if it was at a World Series.
  13. True but we also will most likely have a couple more high draft picks by then. We could also have an elite infielder behind Moncada-Anderson-Madrigal.

He is still a work in progress. But this year he has shown the ability to hit LH pitching with a small sample. He was red hot hitting out of the 2nd spot. Why take the chance that he might be affected by the change. He has shown in the past to maybe'think too much" in the batters box.
  15. Agree but Red Sox traded to get Sale. When the Sox become competitive again, they can always trade for an ace if none of our young prospects become one.
  16. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe. But since he is hitting 60 points higher facing lefties, that would make no sense.
  17. Unless they go get one like Cubs, Astros, Red Sox did.
  18. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can RR please put him back in the 2 spot. Probably a coincidence, but he has struggled in the 5.
  19. I have been to Fenway numerous times. They always draw well so their staffing is set up to handle big crowds. Teams that get variances in crowds usually struggle when attendance jumps up. Boston does a good job of providing plenty of aisle vendors which takes some of the burden off the stands in the concourse. I have yet to see a stadium.though, that has found a way to limit the bathroom lines. But I am sure an app is being developed.
  20. No. Wondering why he was dropped to 5th today. Is RR reacting to a lefty starter or is he moving him down because he wants more production out of the middle of the lineup. Sometimes young players are affected by their position in the batting order.
  21. Moncada has been on a tear. Why start moving him around in the order? Lefty or righty should not matter while he is hot.
  22. 1 BB and 10 k's. Tough day at the plate.
  23. Just my theory. One explanation is his minor league career. He pitched very little in AA and AAA. So when he surfaced in the majors there was probably very limited info on him. As he pitched in the majors teams must have found some weaknesses and he has not been able to make adjustments.
  24. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am also impressed that he has taken on a new position and it has not been a distraction. He is hitting the ball.
