No brainer. Move to New England.
-
Jones had a rough spring. Wonder if they held till July if his value would be higher.
-
I saw Boston has 3 catchers but will only go w 2. Both Swihart (26) and Vazquez (28) have warts but so does McCann. Swihart can also play OF and IB

JBJ must have been a Theo pick and I think he is available for the right price.

One reason why Sale re-upped w Boston. Hopefully we are shooting for that kind of organization. Sale was liberated from a Chicago team that never reached the playoffs during his seven seasons and finished above the .500 mark only twice. “We’re not just trying to win this year,” Sale said. “We’re trying to win next year and the year beyond. Especially in this day and age, when half the league isn’t trying to win anything and we’re trying to win every year, that says a lot. As players, you can’t not respect it.” https://www.providencejournal.com/sports/20190323/sale-says-winning-was-foremost-on-his-mind-as-he-finalized-new-contract

But a major difference. Houston only had 6 years( 2009-2014) playing below .500. We just finished our 6th year below .500. So it looks like Houston started rebuilding in Year 1 of their slide and we started in Year 4.

Now that he is available, Hahn needs to hire Robert Mueller to find out who in the White Sox front office is leaking trades.
-
But remember Boston brought him up through the lower minors as a 2B. It was only as his reputation grew that they realized Pedroia was blocking him so they moved him his last year to 3B. I thought it made sense that the FO moved him back to 2nd because for us that seemed the shortest route to the bigs.
-
Hopefully the FO has put a lot of thought into this move. It certainly makes sense organizationally but so far Moncada has shown he can have problems with the mental aspects of the game. He had a good spring so hopefully his offense will be there as the season starts there and the defense can take a year to develop.

Also he loves their throwback uniforms.
-
Not sure where you got that notion.

I posted quite a while ago Sale would resign w Boston. I think the same on Bogaerts but Betts will be a FA. But we would never pay what he is going to want.

For USA Slow Pitch Softball?
-
Agree but flamethrowers do not always translate into closers. Nate Jones has been a very good 8th inning guy but his closing efforts are very shaky. Closing by committee is always an adventure so I think that could be their achilles heel this year. Unless they grab someone at trade deadline.
-
It will be interesting to see what he gets when he does sign. I am sure the 6 year request is gone at this late stage. Since Boston didn't find his replacement, I though they might jump back in but they must think they have an internal option. Might be a bad gamble.
-
Remember all the talk that the available pitching market was held up waiting for the whales to sign. Lot of pitchers are still out there 2 weeks later and most must be behind in getting ready for this season.
-
I think Porcello would be a great add. My gut is sale will resign and Porcello will move on. Not sure he would be a #1 but a solid #2.
-
SS is usually an important position on successful teams. TA needs to be at least steady. If he goes south and there is nothing in the pipeline, I would be concerned. I think this is a year for Kopech to just get healthy and we won't get too much of a read on when he will become a major factor.
-
I think this year we move up a step from rock bottom. Lopez, Rodon , Moncada and TA should hopefully take a step up and Eloy should make a splash. I see some posters say Eloy in a few weeks but my gut says Eloy's splash will be delayed till he starts hitting the cover off at AAA. Now it may take till after All Star break but if 2 or more of the 5 are going the wrong way in late summer and are healthy, then the bottom may be coming up again.

But look at it from a fan standpoint. The Astros had 3---100 loss seasons and had a below .500 record for 6 straight years before they started winning again. Last year was the 6th straight year the Sox had a record below .500. So if 2021 is the goal, we will go at least 2 more years than the Astros did. Cubs had 5 years below .500 until they turned it around. So if we are in year 3 of rebuild, it only means our management was too slow to realize they needed to rebuild.

How about Fulmer???

I don't think Hahn would even consider giving up a draft pick on what looks like a short-term deal he will eventually get.
