Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) really nice. i will not rain on your parade asking questions about dealing with jackson agent. What two things does Joe Crede, Dayan Viciedo, Andruw Jones and Carlos Rodon have in common?

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 07:26 PM) oh now i see what your thinking is.... excellent... thinking out side the box. here are my opinions and reasons. padres - kemp and player, a prospect. they have some really nice players to be had. the sox do not have assets for those prospect, but money to take on kemp brewers - one or 2 of the young level 3 tier pitchers and or add a possible pen pitcher. there they may want to trade one their ace OF plus MI. cards, - the emergence of a couple of their minor league prospect may force the cards to trade an OF for a pen guy in the major now. pitt. - same with the cards, but they have a really nice OF'er who may kick that door down in ST. marte may be pack off for pen pitcher plus a future sp. the mets.... they really need 2 pen pitchers. they have some really nice OF'er and MI'er prospects. ref AL, like Bowman idea, keep the players you trade out of the league you are playing in. so i never look into the AL. SD- Kemp is far worse in RF than Avi and Kemp should be a DH so there's no space for him on the Sox. Milwaukee- they are rebuilding so the only players they are trading will be veterans with a high salary such as Braun. Cards- they have an OF opening and were linked to Heyward and rumored about with other FA outfielders so I'm not sure they would trade an outfielder away. Pitt- they aren't moving any outfielders until after this season when they can demand a kings ransom due to a lack of high quality FA outfielders next winter. Pitt will need what they have to contend while their minor league outfielders develop this year. I think Austin Meadows becomes the new CF for Pitt in '17 after Pitt trades McCutchen next winter for all of ancient Egypt's gold. Mets- they do have some young talented outfielders but that's probably why they would like to trade DeAza. Those young outfielders wouldnt come cheap if the Mets were willing to trade one of them. I think the Sox need to work something out with Houston.

White Sox 2016 draft pool is $9,354,000
It's a good draft to have that much money to spend.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) dang it, i was hoping you wouldn't ask me. but in all honesty, we have one of him already.... jb shuck. mdk is faster, maybe a better defender, however shuck is a better hitter and maybe with a tad more power.. they both remind me a a lh hitting TT, who was both of my description. but then again what in hades do i know. I just looked them both up on fangraphs. Dekker has the edge in power and fielding but Shuck has the edge in OBP, K rate, BB rate. After looking at both players, there's really nothing to gain by trading for Dekker since, like you said, they are similar players. I'm just trying to think of players Hahn might have his eye on. Oh well, my search continues as well as my faint hope for Jackson.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) well at least someone is thinking.... and of course being fans, this is like anything else a make shift plan. but the huge question mark for me is, will they, the prospects develop as hope ???? no one knows and therein lies the problem. no viable option after them. good post. Of course we don't know if they will develop, that's why they are called prospects. Anderson and May will be at Charlotte this year so we'll have a better idea about them by the end of '17. Michalczewski and Engel, IIRC, will be at AA so its too early to speculate on them, especially Michalczewski who won't even be legal to drink a beer until the 27th of this month. I look at it this way, Michalczewski starting the '17 season for Birmingham at the age of 21 is encouraging. In all honesty, its just too soon to be concerned about the '18 season. There's just too many things that can happen between now and then. OK, back to OF options for this year. How about Matt den Dekker from Washington? LHB and plays a tick above average RF... I'm starting to wonder if the Sox already have the LHB/platoon partner they need for RF with JB Shuck.

BP projects Sox at 82-80, 2nd in ALC
I like BA and all but I just cannot grasp many of these predictions. I know some teams surprise and some teams flop but these projections are pretty far out there.

The Sox Should Claim Sean Nolin
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) No chance IMO. His name has come up a couple of times. It wouldn't make sense to be honest, with all do respect to Eminor. IIRC, I think it was you that said Carroll would likely be the pitcher to go first and I agree. Imo, there more upside potential in Nolin than Carroll.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) i am with you on this, the sox needs a player, a player that has at least 3 or 4 yrs on his contract. why, in 2 yrs+ there is going to be a mass exodus of players leaving via fa's and the farm is not there to replenish the team. There's alot riding on Anderson, Michalczewski, to lesser extents May and Engel to develop between now and the end of the '17 season. I still believe it's possible Frazier and/or Lawrie could be extended at some point over the next year or so. If Trey develops, Frazier should make a fine 1B. As of right now, I see Melky as LaRoche's replacement at DH for '17 with May taking over LF for Melky. I'm actually hoping for Saladino to hit his into being the permanent SS and develop Anderson into a CF. Not that I don't think Anderson can play SS, but his arm and speed could make for a very good CF and that would help with the outfield situation. Only problem with that is were talking about May, Anderson, Eaton as the outfield which would be great for range and speed but very little power. I would be fine with a lack in power in the OF for the sake of defense and if the Sox are getting power from the infield. OK, back on track. I doubt Granderson would be available but if he was, I wonder what the cost would be.

The Sox Should Claim Sean Nolin
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Taking a look at the 40-man, I actually don't see any obvious guys to dump -- there are guys EYE would dump, but I assume the Sox might/probably like them as much or more than Nolin. Here are the potentials that jumped out: OF Jerry Sands IF Leury Garcia OF Daniel Fields SP Scott Carroll SP Brandon Brennan RP Tommy Kahnle RP Zach Phillips RP Michael Ynoa Just asking and not criticizing but do you think the Sox would dump Kahnle after trading Almonte for him?

Players have begun showing up for Spring Training already
Good to see some guys eager to get started. I'm really curious to see how Avi responds in live game action with his new stance. Hopefully it will help and he makes us look like fools for wanting to be rid of him.

DeAza just signed with Baltimore this winter so is he even eligible to be traded yet? No matter, I still say no fricken way to DeAza. He's the Mets problem. Now if the Mets want to talk about Granderson, for a reasonable price, I'm all ears.

There are other players more in need of platooning than Adam Eaton. How many left handed pitchers are in the ALC? Not enough for me to be concerned with regards to Eaton. LaRoche is a no brainer but Eaton? Come on, that just nitpicking.

There's absolutely no reason for the Sox FO trade for Guerrero. The only position he grades out positively is 3B and that position is filled by Frazier and backed up by Lawrie and Saladino. Agree with those that say Guerrero is a butcher in the OF which makes trading for him a moot point. Would rather roll the dice on Avi. I like Guerrero's bat and he could be better with more consistent time on the field but there's no room for him on the Sox. Ethier makes the most sense but there doesn't seem to be a fit between the teams so I'm not counting on a deal happening with the Dodgers. Still scratching my butt trying to think of other trade possibilities that Hahn could be looking into.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) any ideas of that cuban player who plays the OF. is he still a FA of sorts, his name is Guillermo Heredia. any info on his tryout results??? I know nothing about him. I couldn't find any recent information on him either. Found some stuff from June of last year talking about how he is a free agent but nothing since. I looked him up on BR and he hasn't played since 2013, well, he did have 1 AB in 2014. I'm serious. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=heredi001gui I do know that Yadiel Hernandez's workout is coming up on the 23rd. Regardless of what the Sox might do between now and then, I hope the Sox make a serious run at him. His small strike zone and good batting eye should help his transition to MLB.

White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) I like burgers. I like this post. I too, am a fan of burgers and would take them any time over a fricken hot dog. Anyone like seafood? I know Ian Desmond does because according to twitter, he was fishing last week. I wonder how possible it is to be able to sit down to watch some White SOX Baseball, eat some salmon and watch Desmond mash HR's on the South side. Hmmmmm. Sorry. Had a Homer J Simpson moment. I now return you to this threads tragic derailment.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/questioning...ve-improvement/ I clicked on this to read what Edwards had to say about Fowler's defense. What he says in the first paragraph goes in line with the speculation late last week. Anyway. Thought I'd share because this is a very in-depth write-up and we'll done at that.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) a really nice breakdown. great post. i wonder if the trade, that was thought of, could it be a possible maybe idea. i am still trying to imagine what the sox have, in assets to make the trade. They have some bullpen depth, low minor league depth and players like Avi and Sanchez that can be used as parts of a bigger package. Early in the off season, it was rumored the Sox were willing to trade Erik Johnson. Not sure if there's any truth to that or if it's a good idea but he could potentially be dealt. I know the players I named aren't worth much but they would be of more use to a team looking for depth now instead of a few years from now. For some reason I keep coming back to Andrew Aplin. LHB, decent BA, good OBP, some speed and good defense. Probably could be had for a bullpen arm. I think it's this type of player the Sox could end up with. The un-proven type with some upside to throw into the Sox outfield mix.

White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) I think the ask price is so high, once teams hear of it, they don't even bother. I would imagine if you wanted to sign one of Desmond, Fowler, or Jackson today, and announce it tonight or tomorrow, the contract you would have to agree tis nowhere near what most of us think their eventual price will be. I think you're right. There seems to be a stand-off between the remaining free agents and the teams interested in them. Should be interesting to see who blinks first and for how much in terms of money/years.

White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) I frankly haven't read anything at all about Sox and Jackson. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) Have you read about Jackson and anybody? I read some speculation but no actual talks. Considering Boras got Kennedy $70 million, I would think Jackson's price is still quite high right now. The only things I've read were sports writer's writing a blurb about their local team and how Jackson could be a fit for their OF opening or adding him as a potential depth piece. Teams like Texas, Baltimore, Cleveland, cubs, Twinkies etc. Nothing that has any substance though, just a sports writer's take. Fowler and Desmond has had some seemingly genuine speculation but absolutely nothing has been rumored about Jackson. Heck, even Alvarez has had more speculation here lately. This has been a very strange off season.

Thought I would bump this in an effort to spare the Desmond thread. Hahn has made it clear the Sox are looking for another bat and likely an outfield bat. Since the last post in this thread it sounds as though the Sox have moved on or couldn't work something out for outfielders such as Fowler, Puig and Ethier. Doesn't sound like Gardner is leaving the Yanks and nobody would be crazy enough to take on Ellsbury's contract so I think we can safely eliminate them. Kemp is a DH in need of an AL team with an open DH spot and it looks like those spots are filled. I like the idea of Markakis' bat in the 2 hole but from what I've been reading his arm and range has dropped off, and the Braves can keep Swisher and Bourn. Desmond Jennings and his bum knee scares me after some time to think about it. I'm still very curious as to what the Astros are going to do with their plethora of outfielders. Wouldn't mind trying to get one of Tucker, Marisnick or Aplin, though Tucker likely costs more than the Sox are willing to give up and its possible Marisnick is more valuable to Houston ( they love his D) than he would be to the Sox in a trade which leaves Aplin, who the Astros have no room for. I'm still all for the Austin Jackson idea and remain hopeful. Just trying to think of more options that could be available via trade.
