  1. Probably Rodon to get more work in (with the minor league season ending the alternative is him just going home getting no work in and we all know he got a late jump into his pro career.)
  2. Haven't read much of this post but since this was posted on a Wednesday, does "next Tuesday" mean the Tuesday after next? I would refer to Tuesday the 19th as "Tuesday". Just want to be clear.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) +100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Hell yeah. And then just stick him in the pen
  4. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) U ain't just going get nothing for danks. And I'm ok with that
  5. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) No one will takes john danks for this salary. Don't the Angels have a tv deal like the Dodgers coming up soon? If so, money won't be a problem for them. They were already looking for pitching before this news.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) Really thought Michael Taylor would be the next outfielder up, not sure the point of dealing away Jake Sanchez if not. I could deal with De Aza in CF if we could see what we had in Taylor. Michael Taylor is like 30 now. Rather see Sierra continue to get at bats. Danks is fine as late inning replacement for Tank.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) So if we picked him up, the only way to keep him next year would be to offer him arbitration which would probably involve a 20% raise because arb usually does, meaning that he'd cost us $5 million next year to keep? That seems ugh. Agreed
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 11:44 PM) I would keep him in the minors the rest of the year, as he threw a ton of pitches for NC St. Given the fact this team isn't playing for anything the rest of the way, I'm just not a fan of rushing him up. Well the minor league season ends early September so you may as well let him work in the majors, finish off the year with the team and then prep in the off-season to come into Spring Training as a starter.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Off topic from Beckham and I don't want to start a new thread but, Has there been any rumors or anything on any Sox players clearing or being claimed on waivers? Let alone being put on waivers? I'm just going to assume that Dunn, Beckham, Danks and probably a few relievers have already cleared. These guys should have been placed on waiver 3:01 pm July 31.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) He had a ton more value last July than this one. We just weren't willing to send any money along. Not a bunch of surplus value on his contract Which is why I think the people who thought we would send money with Dunn or Danks in deals this year are crazy.
  11. Remember when everyone thought we could get 3-4 prospects for him last June/July? Classic.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) I'm a little disappointed that WE didn't claim him... I mean I get that you don't want to send the message that you're abandoning your "plan," but it seems like the tire fire that is our bullpen should be pretty comfortable with the notion that their jobs are not safe. Absolutely. Having him back next year at $3.5 mill wouldn't have been bad. Picking him up wouldn't be "abandoning the plan" and no one should see it that way.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) Having not heard anything about it, I am guessing it hasn't happened yet, but who knows for sure. Players placed on waivers are always usually kept quiet. For all we know half the Sox roster has cleared waivers by now.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) Of course the Sox got L Garcia, so they must have done b. And doesn't b. require that the player going the other way also clear waivers? Original Rios to Sox move was a waiver claim tho
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) So then you're paying a guy $5 million to make what would amount to 60-80 plate appearances (on the optimistic side). There's no way an NL team does that. Ok a team like the Brewers can take him on to be the right handed pitching part of the platoon with Reynolds
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) So here we are 30 minutes after the trade deadline and the Sox still haven't traded anybody. So what now? A. Any and every player on the 40 man roster can (and probably will) be placed on 'revocable waivers' sometime between August 1 and the last day of the regular season [though most players go on waivers within the first few days of August]. B. Every business day, teams get a list of all players placed on waivers the previous day. Teams have three business days to decide whether or not to put in a claim on any player. A claim potentially obligates a team to assume the entirety of the player's remaining contract, whether that be the rest of the current season or any number of future seasons. C. After three business days, players who were not claimed by any team have 'cleared waivers'. Players who have been claimed by one or more teams have the claim awarded to the claiming team with the worst record (based on the date the player was placed on waivers) within their own league. If none of the claiming teams are within their own league, then the claim is awarded to the claiming team with the worst record in the opposite league. 1. If a player clears waivers, the player's team is free negotiate with and trade him to any team they want at any time they want, just as though it were before the trade deadline. 2. If a claim is awarded, then the player's team may only negotiate with and trade him to the claiming team. The two teams have two business days to complete a deal. By the end of the two days, the player's team has three options: a. Reject the claim and retain the player until at least the end of the season when they are once again free to negotiate with any team b. Work out a mutually acceptable trade with the claiming team. c. Accept the claim and give the player and his entire contract to the claiming team (see Rios, Alex). That last line is what keeps teams from making claims on players with lots of money left on their contracts. Any time you make a claim on a player there is at least a chance you are stuck with his remaining contract. Danks is almost certain to clear waivers. Dunn is likely to clear waivers, but there might be a team willing to risk taking on the rest of his contract if they are desperate enough for hitting. Could definitely see a team claiming Dunn then not trying to work out a deal in an attempt to just try to take him and his salary on without giving up any players. If I am an NL team that needed another bat on the bench, I'd probably do it.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) Price to Tigers per Rosenthal Guess he replaces Scherzer in the rotation next season
  18. Yankees pick up Stephen Drew.....Stephen Drew can be moved easily but Beckham can't? Amazing
  19. A lot of teams calling in on Hammel and Latos was now made available. Danks market has to be just about gone I'd imagine
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Score just said Levine saying Danks may go just 4-5 innings, to allow time for a trade. Its like a few years ago when Ubaldo made a start for Colorado and then got trade during the game. Him starting doesn't mean he can't get traded. He can go to a team that doesn't mind him making his first start in 5 days.
  21. Beckham hitting 6th incase he's traded? That way Gillaspie can just slide into the lineup and hits 6th moving Garcia over to 2B if he were to get traded during the game
  22. Wow shocked there wasn't any overnight deals. There always seem to be
  23. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) They just picked up Uggla. Point still stands
  24. Wish we could grab one of the right handers. Both are controllable through 2019
