  1. Rienzo sent to Charlotte. Guess Heath is coming up as a fresh bullpen arm? Seems unnecessary with 4 off days after tomorrow's game.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) Probably hiding in the same hole that the haters occupied a month ago I feel like the Beckham haters have been around consistently most of the season.
  3. Picking up AJ doesn't prevent you from finding a long term solution.
  4. Possible suitor for Adam Dunn perhaps?
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) From espn Cruz turned down a spot so safe to say it won't be him. For some reason mlb is dragging this on until Thursday. No word on who Brian Dozier blew to get in. Well he's got 16 homers and I think he was picked since it is in his home stadium.
  6. Why do people think Alexei isn't getting in? Hes been second in voting for a while...
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) I'd guess just Sale and Abreu. Guess Alexi although lady month or so may hurt. Why? Alexei has been second in votes at shortstop for a while. Hes probably getting in.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) Pretty sure they don't do that if it's the next day- because of the short notice of travel. I think the game was called and announced as a DH early enough to decide someone could be called up and make it on time today.
  9. I'm pretty sure Hahn asked for Franklin when we didn't Davidson yet meaning the plan would have been for Franklin to play third.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) I think this is seeing how Carroll does for one or two more starts while also seeing how Surkamp looks against MLB hitters, and if Carroll fails with Surkamp succeeding, I could see another depth chart move made and then someone like Veal brought up. I could see this too. If Carroll doesn't do to well, I think it's back to bullpen for him with Rienzo going down and a lefty coming up.
  11. Assuming Davidson starts stepping it up, I could see Gillespie getting DH, 1B and 3B at bats next year. In my opinion, you don't need a power hitter to be the extra bat in the lineup.
  12. Too bad Texas wasn't in the race this year. They would a great matchup for Dunn.
  13. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:36 AM) Where would he play? The future outfield for the Sox is already pretty crowded. Even after moving de Aza, they will have Eaton and Garcia occupying two positions. There are several candidates for the third spot, including Micah Johnson, who is likely not going to be good enough defensively to play 2ND. Davidson will probably have to be considered for LF, as third base should belong to Gillaspie. He is much too important to the offense to think of not keeping him at third. Then they still need to find a left handed, middle of the order bat to replace Dunn. Viciedo could be traded, or moved to DH, but that would mean that whomever they find to fill Dunn's spot, will likely have to be in the outfield. It seems to me like they need to keep a corner outfield spot, or DH for whomever the eventually find to bat behind Abreu. It certainly is not Jose Tabata. I'm going to go on the record saying I don't want to see Johnson and Eaton in the same outfield. I feel like it would be too weak and that there should be a power guy in left. If Johnson is going to be in the outfield, then trade Eaton.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Why is he expendable? Just because you have a talent surplus doesn't make your surplus worthless. Even if they lose some leverage from having a perceived window to needing to deal him (which is debatable with the presence of any prospect of Hedges' quality), the market price is still going to be determined by the number of suitors and how motivated those suitors would be. LOTS of teams will want a 25 year-old C that has put of 3.1 fWAR over his first 500 PA. Davidson for Grandal straight up. With Headley leaving after this year, they could use a potential replacement. Or we offer an arm and a 2B (Beck and Semien/Johnson/Sanchez?) for Grandal and they could move Gyorko back to his natural position of 3B. I see no room for all of Semien, Johnson, and Sanchez in the future plans and might as well sell on on some of their success in the minors so far.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) Sale back out there Guy doesn't have it today, so why not?
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 08:08 AM) what? Barnum was our compensation pick for Buehrle. At the time I even said trade Danks for whatever you could get since he was pretty mediocre at the time of the extension (KW wanted like 3-4 great prospects for him) and just signed Buehrle instead.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 04:12 PM) Apparently it's a broken hand for Lawrie and he'll be out a month. Good. Francisco has also been struggling at third so their need of another IF increases with Lawrie being out. Traderumors speculated on who they could trade for yesterday and all are worse options than Beckham, who was not mentioned.
  18. Apparently Jays may be looking for a 2B now that Francisco has cooled off a lot (move Lawrie back to third I guess). Anyone think the Jays may want to go all-in and possibly offer up a top pitching prospect (maybe + other lower guys?) for Beckham straight up? I think them of the A's are the best likely teams that would want to upgrade at second in a trade.
  19. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Even when they're getting worse year-on-year? Viciedo's wRC+ for the Sox: 2010/11 (combined 219 PA): 99 2012: 98 2013: 96 2014: 85 Exactly...he's not exactly getting better...
  20. Paulie should have hit for Dunn. If Paulie is hurt, it would be great to milk it out a bit and throw him on the dl to use his spot for someone versatile. That way he can still be a coach without using a roster spot.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) Beckham to Toronto makes way too much sense if Sox fall out of it over next month. It seems like Toronto is happy with the Lawrie-Francisco-Tolleson platoon between second and third. Watching the A's Rangers game the other night on mlbtv, it is obvious the A's need a 2B, as I saw Callaspo miss a very routine ground ball along with having a .220 average. I think they are a team with a lot of starting pitching depth in the minors that wouldn't mind spearing 1 or 2 to us. Those are the teams that I would aim to trade for. Maybe offer Beckham for Ynoa straight up?
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) And if they wanted a defensive player to hit ~.200 they already have Danks in the minors. Danks was hitting around .160 in the minors and when he was up here under .200 so no they don't already have that.
  23. I completely agree with Nieto being given a shot to start. That way we can at least figure out what we have at the end of the season.
