  1. Yeah, but the Cubs own the mega market. The Sox were last of all of the 30 teams in TV viewership in 2018, the Cubs probably own the market with a 75 to 25% edge. It's like the Sox are playing in a market about the size of Milwaukee or Cincinatti. If a new owner came in he would have to ask himself do I want my team playing in front an average of 20,000 or a market where I average over 30,000 with much higher TV ratings and no competition from another team. Another thing is that places like San Antonio and Charlotte are growing at amazing rates while large segments of people have had it with Northern metro areas like Chicago and are tired of horrible weather among other things. I've been a Sox fan since 1952 and it would kill me if the Sox left Chicago, what the Sox need is a new owner with Chicago ties with deep pockets and somehow find a way to build a new stadium with a retractable roof like Miller Park.
  2. I did, thought I was hearing things but not as bad as how Harry Caray butchered things as he was really bad in his later years.
  3. You beat me to it, Lane left the Sox around 1957 for the Cards and then the Indians where he traded managers with the Tigers and then traded fan favorite Rocky Colovito to Detroit for Harvey Kueen, Tribe fans went nuts after that trade. The trades after the 1959 season were horrible but Ed Short a few years later made some very good trades which led to the 3 best consecutive Sox seasons in their history, in 63, 64, and 65 the Sox were the best team in the AL winning 94, 98 and 95 games for a 3 year total of 287-199. How I miss those years when we had 17 straight winning seasons and Chicago was a Sox town.
  4. First of all, take the pressure off him and put him down at the bottom of the order and keep him there. It also seems like the kid lacks a passion for the game, that's something that probably won't change. I hate to say this because it's still early in his career but the Red Sox might have seen something about him that they felt that he was expendable.
  5. Did anyone really think that these clowns were going to win this game?
  6. Rays announcers saying that the Sox and the rebuild need to start winning otherwise all the young guys will know nothing but losing. I guess they didn't see that the Astros lost over 100 games 3 years in a row before they started to turn it around. Living in Florida I watch the Rays just about every game but their announcers, Staats and Anderson are idiots.
  7. I'm 72 and grew up and long for the good old days of the GO GO SOX era when we outdrew the Cubs between 1951 and 1967 and Chicago was a Sox town.
  8. As we speak the Sox are playing to a .346 winning percentage which would give us a 56-106 year end record which would tie the 1970 team for the worst record in Sox history, with our horrible pitching I say we won't reach the 56 wins and probably end up at 50-112. We still have games with the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs who will show no mercy on us.
  9. Thanks SCCWS, yes it is a nice town and we can be in Orlando in 60 minutes, Tampa and the Gulf Coast in 90 minutes and most important I play all the Golf I want as we live on a golf course, 150-180 rounds a year.
  10. Sorry but I'm sort of new and haven't posted much here, curious was your feeling that of most? As for me I'm not sure.
  11. Here is something that I have thought about, let's say the LaRoche business and the Sale Sissorhands event never happened and the both Sale and Eaton were good Boy Scouts, do the Sox trade them anyway and go with the rebuild?
  12. Only time will tell. Like I said in a previous post in this thread, if we see the same Moncada a year from now there will be some big time cause for concern. Hey, I'm pulling for the guy just like every other player that has put on a Sox uniform since I became a fan in 1952.
  13. The first thing I did when we traded for Moncada was to look at his Minor league stats and said to myself; what's so great about this guy that we traded away the best pitcher in the AL for him. A friend of mine who is a Red Sox fan told me what bothered him was giving up Basabe in the trade to us but not Moncada.
  14. No, whatever happens the worst trade ever was the Cubs trading Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio followed by the A's trading Nellie Fox for Joe Tipton.
  15. He seems to have a really great game once in awhile and we all think he has turned the corner, not sure if he's going to live up to all the hype bestowed on him. One thing is, I'm not wild abut him batting leadoff, bat him 6 or 7. Too early to give up on him, if he's having a hard time a year from now I would say there would be some cause for concern.
  16. When we moved to Florida in 1993, the Sox were doing well in attendance and it was close to how many In the Metro were Sox fans or Cub fans, it was around 50/50 back then, any guesses to the ratio these days, is it 60/40 in favor of the Cubs or even 66/33? Based on attendance figures lately it's more like 66/33.
  17. I almost hit the ceiling in the front room when the Sox won the AL Pennant on Sept. 22, 1959.
  18. Played Golf in the AM, came home, had lunch and then watched the game on WGN when they were still televising nationwide.
  19. I also thought those trades were bad but somehow the Sox won more games than any other team in the years of 63, 64 and 65. They won 94 in 63, 98 in 1964 and 95 in 1965 and had nothing to show for it.
  20. Going back to the late 50s the Sox thought they had the next Mickey Mantle in Johnny Callison. He played a little bit in 1959 season but Veeck traded him in the off season with a few more very good prospects who all had very nice ML careers.
  21. I think we should keep Sanchez in addition to the obvious players. Yolmer will make a fine utility infielder and is a good guy to have around.
  22. Thanks, he did have LTP, IIRC he hit one that landed on the concourse out in deep right center.
