  1. When I was a kid Wrigley was just another ballpark and no one said what a great place it was. It was no better than Ebbets Field, The Polo Grounds, Comiskey Park, Griffith Stadium, Fenway, Crosley Field, Forbes Field, Tiger Stadium or Yankee Stadium. What all those parks had in common was that they were all unique in their own way and often built to fit in the confines of the city blocks they fit in. The only thing about Wrigley and Fenway is that they are old and still with us but were no better than any other ballpark to watch a ballgame.
  2. This might be the beginning of something, the last time the Sox ruled Chicago was in the GO GO era of the 50s and 60s. The key is to start becoming at least a playoff team for 4 or 5 years with a World Series Championship thrown in and not going back to the old days of having the club run like it's a small market franchise
  3. Tampa Bay already has Zunino and Mejia, they wouldn't want Collins.
  4. They might be able to fool Cub fans but we are Sox fans, not a bunch of dupes.
  5. Right, my heart bleeds for them Damn Yankees.
  6. This lineup couldn't beat the Charlotte Knights.
  7. Yep, the Rays just hit them with a 10 spot in the bottom of the 6th, 14-0 Rays.
  8. Another Sox great catch was by Daryl Boston, can't remember the year but he was playing left at old Comiskey and running full blast towards the foul line on a ball slicing away in foul territory, Boston jumped on the railing of the low box seats caught the ball and wound up in the 3rd row of seats, spectacular catch.
  9. Not quite, this guy was suppose to be a superstar, do you remember the video and the hype the Sox put out before his first game. Decent player yes, superstar not even close. BTW, trading Sale was a good thing, he was an injury waiting to happen.
  10. The Twins were the original Washington Senators and they had some horrible teams down through the years, like they once said Washington, first in war, last in the American League.
  11. Yet Illinois has 2000 more deaths than Florida and about half the population as the Sunshine State not to mention Chicagoans shooting each other like it's Dodge City.
  12. There are a lot of stupid people in this country, here in Florida the last few nights there were some more Covid parties. Last week some knuckleheads had a Covid Lottery Party with everyone throwing in 10 bucks in the pot and the first person that came down with the virus won the pot a few days later. Another one was the Covid Hoax party, one guy who was 30 years old died a week later and right before he died he said to the bedside nurse "I guess it's not a hoax". I too am starting to wonder when this thing will go away if we don't come down with a vaccine. Somehow the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1920 went away by herd immunity but not before anywhere from 17 million to 50 million died.
  13. Ozzie quit on the team, don't want to see him in a White Sox uni ever again.
  14. Yeah, I was feeling a lot better on things and then we got the news that was Kopech was sitting out this season. I'm also going with 33-27.
  15. If true, excellent news, if was fun watching live Golf this past weekend and to see live MLB would like manna from heaven.
  16. I'm with you, I'm an old timer and enjoyed the 17 straight winning seasons of the Go Go years from 1951-1967. If there were playoffs back then the Sox including the 59 AL Champs would have made the post-season probably 10 times in those years. I might have had a different answer if we didn't win it all in 2005.
  17. Claudell Washington Ron Santo Nick Swisher Alex Rios Jeff Semardzija
  18. Nellie Fox Billy Pierce Minnie Minoso Paul Konerko Mark Buerhle
  19. I'm not sure if we can count on Burger so I'm for moving Moncada to 3rd with Madrigal taking over at 2nd.
  20. Maybe someone in the FO believes as so many fans do that Ks are just another out.
  21. Of course I knew that. It was 1983 that we drew 2 million for the first time. At one time if a franchise drew 1 million a year it was considered that they very successful. Before the Dodgers moved to LA the only teams to draw 2 million were the Yankees from 1946 to 1950 and the Indians in 1948. Im not quite sure what the point is you're making, that it's OK to be near the bottom of the Majors in attendance for the last 5 or 6 years. I don't know about you but it makes me sick to my stomach. One more point is that maybe the Sox fan base has remained the same the last 40,50, or 60 years ago but as the metro area grew from around 5 million in the 1950s to about 10 million now, it is the Cubs fan base that has grown leaps and bounds, playing in a national landmark in a trendy neighborhood and on everybody's bucket list has certainly helped them.
  22. Lets hope that somehow they can turn this around and the Sox become relevent again in Chicago and the metro area. I don't think Chicago will ever become a Sox town again but if we can draw 2 million a year in average years and close to 3 million when in a pennant race, that would be more than respectable. In the 37 years of the Reinsdorf ownership there have been many mistakes that have led to the erosion of the Sox fan base. Just a few of them; first thing JR and co. did was start mocking Bill Veeck. Then came the introduction of Sportsvision pay TV while the Cubs were airing their games on free tv on WGN. At the same time they let Harry Caray go to the Cubs. After the division title in 1983 we starting hearing that Comiskey Park was in horrible shape, I think it could have been saved much like the old Yankee Stadium was way back in the mid 70s. Then came the move to Florida threat which led to a horrible stadium being built with way too many suites and an upper deck that many refused to sit in. Next up was the White Flag trades. We finally won the Series in 2005 but couldn't even outdraw the Cubs in 05 or 06. There are a few more bad moves but I'll leave it at that but one has to wonder that after all the crap we have gone through that are any Sox fans left at all.
