Sox claim RHP Yoendrys Gómez; release Greg Jones

Shuffling the dregs forth and back.

When will this nonsense end and we get some real Major League players.

I wonder if he's more bullpen fodder, or AAA starting depth. Everybody in Charlotte seems to have been getting knocked around.

I'd rather them shuffle the backend of the roster than not. This is one thing Getz seems much more willing to do than Hahn. You're not going to find franchise savers on the waiver wire, but you can find useful pieces if you try. You can't if you just sit on your hands.

Out of options.

Then they're going to have to make another move out of the bullpen. I'd guess Shuster or Eisert go down.

Gomez, 25, is joining his third organization this season after the Dodgers claimed him off waivers from the New York Yankees last month. He is a combined 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA and a three-out save in nine relief appearances this season.

In 15 major league appearances over parts of three seasons, Gomez is 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA.

I can see why they’re interested. At what point do they give Coffey or Adler or Pallette or someone a chance instead of merely recycling the trash?

Damn, I thought that elite speed and defense from Greg Jones would mean something.  Guess not when you strikeout 30 times in 71 plate appearances at Charlotte.

Getz couldn’t identify a good hitter even if the cryogenically frozen head of Ted Williams thawed out and head-butted him.

This is the type of waiver claim you bet on. A 25 year old young arm who was as high as #11 in the Yankees system just a couple of years ago. Fastball can touch 98 with movement.

Its alot better than what they were doing originally putting waiver claims of 27-30 year old guys with little upside to go with it. He'll probably amount to little but you also never know. Getting out of New York and Los Angeles and that pressure from those good teams could help the kid.

Good claim. He has a good arm.

I love it when they claim someone I have never heard of and correspondingly release someone I had no idea was in the organization.

Don't really know what they see in him. Righty with a slow fastball and secondaries that get hit just about as hard as his heater. No real track record of success in the minors. As minor league starter, never averaged 5 innings a start and even that short leash wasn't enough to make his numbers look very good. Control appears to be an issue.

They will exhaust every option on the 40 man first, but other options are already running low...hence the churning of Greg Jones into the ether.

his only contribution to the team was just further embarrassment for us: wearing another team's gear.

When they decide its time to start trying. They want to make sure they get that first pick. I will guess by July we will see more wholesale changes of the young guys. They are slowly adding them.

He was a top 30 guy in the Yankees system. His savant shows elite extension and his Curve and Sweeper seem to be above average movement-wise. At least he's 25, so maybe they have something they can work with instead of some of the other stiffs in the pen.

If he has elite extension then he's 100% a Bannister guy.  That's the #1 thing he looks at for all pitchers.

Only after Jerry takes a dirt nap. It's has-been's and never-were's until then...

Who's REALLY left though?

Teel and maybe Ramos...who's struggling early on AND coming back from injury.

Obviously the Big 3 starters, but all indications are they're going to hold them until next 2026/May for service time.

Then Fletcher Julks DeLoach types...no more real position candidates until you get all the way down to Braden and Bonemer.

Greg Jones should wear a White Sox item his next at bat and just keep the joke going.

They have a lot of potential relievers, if they want to try to assemble an actual mlb pen. My guess is that, due to 40 man stuff, Wikelman is the next man up. Stuff plays up out of the pen. He has had 2 or 3 scoreless outings thus far in AAA. I bet he is up in 2-3 weeks. Ramos is coming on, like you said, but they are awash in RH corner types. I think Braden Montgomery is on a rocket ride up the system. He has disciplined at bats already and no one questions the tools. In the old days, he would be a potential September call up. I think his ETA is now May/June 2026. Schultz has to be added to the 40 man this offseason, so I bet we see him. Smith and Taylor, who knows? I kinda don’t want them to bring up Taylor cuz if they see him in the pen, they may want to keep him there. I think McDougal is a possible pen conversion and call up too. His 40 man clock is ticking. He throws 100 with nasty breaking stuff and control lapses. That sounds like a bullpen guy to me. Lotta guys they can cycle through.
