Something is going on in St.Louis, failed to sell out any of this past weekend games against the Cubs. I turned on the game last night and couldn’t believe how many empty seats, only 30,000 showed up, that’s unheard of in Redbird land.
One thing going for Mead is he came up through the Rays organization, when they bring up a guy he’s had had good minor league training. Mead with the bat should get better because he never had a long run with the Rays, unfortunately when Vargas comes back he’s going to be in the same situation.
I don’t get the bunt, the pitcher’s getting hammered and you bunt. My guess Venable called for the bunt because you know Baldwin wants to swing the bat. I’m not a fan Venable.
You are correct, Minoso and Sievers both had a very good 1960 but that was Minoso’s last good year, both Minnie and Sievers were traded after the 1961 season. Freese had a decent 1960 but was a horrible 3rd baseman and was traded after the season for Juan Pizarro who gave the Sox some good years, the joke about Freese was that the fans sitting in the low boxes beyond first baseman were in grave danger from all his bad throws and they needed to wear batting helmets. I liked Barry Latman and after he was traded for Herb Score went on to have a mediocre career finishing with a career losing record but he might have done better with the Sox and getting Score was a wishing and hoping trade as Score was never the same pitcher after getting hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Gil McDougald in 1957.
It’s amazing how teams go into hitting slumps with everybody forgetting how to hit, we’ve seen it happen many times all over baseball and will see it many more times, so frustrating.
Everybody on the planet knew that the third pitch would be the same as the first 2, Robert just can’t adjust to that pitch, has to go down and hit that pitch to right field. We had chances in the last 3 innings and have bupkus.
