Because the Dodgers have the best organization in MLB, they know how to evaluate talent with excellent scouts, know how to instruct and develop players in the minors without rushing them to the big club and then to cut bait if the need arises. The Rays are pretty good at this also but of course don’t have the money that LA has.

That team had Major League players like Aparicio, Melton, May, Herrmann, Knoop, Berry, Horlen, John and Wood just to name some. The pitching was pretty bad with Horlen and John who had off years. Gary Peters was traded away and they were counting on Bart Johnson but he wasn’t ready.

He never had a chance at the runner going to second, should have taken the sure out at first. You can be bad but don’t be dumb.

Exactly, last offseason I kept scratching my head asking myself what the hell is this guy Getz doing. This off-season might be the most important in team history, they have to spend some money and bring in some free agents as there is isn’t much help in the minor league system. If they don’t then there something else going on and I’ll leave it at that.

Dream on, this team is not capable of anything resembling a hot streak. They will be lucky if they make it to 35 wins. I wouldn’t be surprised if the don’t win another game this year. There are AAA teams from other organizations that are better than the Sox.

I think the Sox were looking for more power, Chet never hit 20 homers in a season with the Sox and Kemp was coming off 2 big seasons with the Tigers. There also was a problem with Chet having a verbal agreement with the Sox making him the highest paid Sox player but then the Sox signed Carlton Fisk to big bucks and then Chet wanted more but the Sox balked and then Lemon traded after the 1981 season.

Kemp stayed one year and signed IIRC with the Yankees.
