QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) I love this tweet: Comiskey Park Hitmen @CPHSox 3m3 minutes ago Adam Eaton used to run to 1st on walks. Oh how things have changed. #grinder

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) Marco Estrada perfect thru 7 for TOR in TB. ESPN says an infield single by Forsythe breaks it up.
-
Suzuki came into the game hitting .230 and Vargas is hitting .380 against lefties. IBB'ing guys because they're "Sox killers" seems like a bad philosophy.

**** you Toriiiiii.
-
He's also increased his total in each inning of this game. Look for 4 K's in the 4th.

Whatever the Sox decide, I think we can all agree that the best approach would be to keep yanking the two of them around between Charlotte and Chicago at irregular intervals.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) At this point #2. I thought the same initially, but I've reconsidered. It's an awesome streak but it's not a real record. What do 12 strikeouts mean anyway? Who has the record for most consecutive starts with 11 K's? What about 13? What about 5? What hitter has the most consecutive games with at least two doubles? Gimme the W.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) Let's get: 1) a win 2) a major league record Which would you all take if we could only have one?

Who represents the Sox in the All Star Game?
shysocks replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Miller isn't a closer.... I'm aware. That fact furthers my argument, not yours. You said if saves aren't important then why do agents, GM's, etc all send big money to the closers. I said that is changing and agreed that Miller's deal was evidence of that. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) If you want to argue that Roberston deserves to go to the all star game just because of Whip/ERA and leave out saves... He still doesn't have as good of stats as a lot of guys. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) I think he at least belongs in the conversation, but there enough other relievers doing ridiculous things in the AL that I'd be unsurprised if he is left out. I should have also added that I wouldn't be disappointed. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) When he was hitting well, his BABIP was ~.450. Now it's down to .348, which is still pretty high, but it's had a long way to fall so it's probably been much lower over the last 3-4 weeks . Basically, everything was falling for him for 6 weeks or so. It's the same thing that happened to Tyler Flowers during his Magic Glasses session last year. EDIT: I admit this is an oversimplification, but I think it explains a lot of it. ANOTHER EDIT: I looked at the wrong number, his BABIP is still pretty high, correct BABIP in now. Found where he had 5 days off between May 25 and 30, at which point his BABIP was .411. Since then it's .208.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Teams are absolutely willing to overpay for relief help. For an example we're familiar with - the White Sox paid David Robertson more than he's worth in value terms. The Padres probably similarly overpaid a little bit for Kimbrel. I'd have no issues trying to move some of the better parts of our bullpen this deadline to see if someone takes a chance on them and is willing to overpay a bit. So teams are willing to overpay for relief help, but not starting pitching help. Also, the bolded is arguably not true because Robertson has put up roughly 1.5 WAR every year forever and is basically being paid exactly like it.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) What are some recent examples? Just looking at last year's deadline, Andrew Miller, a relief pitcher with 1.3 WAR at the time of the trade, returned Eduardo Rodriguez, a top-25 prospect on at least one list who is now doing well in the majors. Martin Prado had 0.9 WAR when he was traded for Peter O'Brien, a catching prospect who will change positions but has plus power. I'm not saying we're going to turn around the team based on who we get for Samardzija, but Balta was acting like 3 win players aren't worth anything.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) That leaves any team trading for him trading for 1 fWAR in July. 1 fWAR. 3 WAR players have fetched plenty at the trade deadline. You know that.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Dick's entire premise is the Sox made a trade for a guy that thought was a bonafide starting 3B and he hasn't yet played a game at the big league level. That is awful scouting. None of us know what else was offered but clearly other offers would have been their for read. The Sox scouting department missed the boat on Davidson. No one is saying scouts are going to be right 100% of the time but we didn't get what you got. If the question was, do you trade a reliever for a cost controlled 3B men that starts and is an average to above average starter...answer is probably yes. However, that depends on scouting and the reality is the trade is a failure if you look at it from the perspective we traded a piece who had value (at that time) and got a player incapable of starting. Similarly, the Dbacks could also look at the deal and say they could have scouted read better and got someone better. The Dbacks could also be looking at it going, man, we were right as to why we were willing to trade Davidson (saw that hole and knew he wouldn't overcome it). What we do know is Sox whiffed badly on Davidson. Hey man, the logic behind the move will always be sound but for whatever reason it didn't/probably won't work out.TM

Dave Cameron: Sox Should Sell Sale, Q, and Abreu
shysocks replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) Cameron with another Sox article... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/maybe-its-t...-the-white-sox/ Glad he joined the chorus of idiots suggesting a Sale trade while writing with a tone that - as usual - could only be described as obnoxious know-it-all. Now I can feel even better about disliking him. Maybe someone should tell him about the reported return for King Felix. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Like Sox fans would be any different. In this day and age of alternate channels, there should have been a way to switch the Cubs over to CLTV or WPWR. I get the tornado coverage was very important last night, but to have no place for the game at all for a long period, that didn't make sense either. Yeah I agree, and I'd have been pissed too. Not sure I'd whine on social media, but whatever.

Who represents the Sox in the All Star Game?
shysocks replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) Saves are arbitrary and uninformative... Well agents, managers, GM's, coaches, arbitrators all must be crazy (since this is how Closers get paid). Pretty much. Everybody thought saves were useful for a long time; arbitration is still especially broken in that regard, but luckily most GM's today are living in reality. If Wade Davis and Dellin Betances were free agents in 2016 they would get monster crazy bucks, and they have 16 career saves between them. I'm not breaking new ground here; people have been arguing for a long time that saves are horrible. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) Did Andrew Miller get paid for all the saves he has in his career? No. He got paid because he's awesome. Robertson is a really good pitcher. Thank you. Miller is the perfect example. -
The logic behind the move will always be sound but for whatever reason it didn't/probably won't work out.* *Copy and paste this sentence to apply it to the Rick Hahn transaction of your choosing.

Who represents the Sox in the All Star Game?
shysocks replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) So when he comes into the game and loses the lead/game WHEN THAT'S HIS JOB? that's a "dumb" stat we should ignore... the very thing he was signed to do. lol.... Roberston has been okay - but if you look at the list of closers in the American League... he aint an all star. He was signed to pitch well and he has. Saves are and always have been arbitrary and uninformative and I'm not that interested in a detailed discussion of why, but yes, I'll continue to ignore them. But I'm fully aware that they're a big part of how all-stars are chosen. -

QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) Are you serious? Roberston is tied for the AL lead in blown saves. He has not had an excellent year... not even close. The saves stat is dumb and he's had a damn fine year. That said, I think he at least belongs in the conversation, but there enough other relievers doing ridiculous things in the AL that I'd be unsurprised if he is left out. Sale is a lock. -
I picked up Tommy Milone in fantasy specifically to spot start him today and I am exceedingly happy with my decision.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) Got bored at work so went through the schedule and looked at results, adjusting our final runs to 3 compared to opponents that day. 5 games would've ended in 3-3 ties, so I split then up 2-3. So if we scored 3 runs every game, the White Sox record would be...drum roll... 38-29!! That hurts. edit: Every game we scored 3 or over, I left as is. Most teams would have outstanding records if they never scored fewer than 3 runs in a game...
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) To sum up thread: Sale is paid to do his job, it sucks he doesn't get help, but wins for a pitcher don't really matter. The White Sox cannot possibly win a trade with Sale in it, so he's untradeable. Can we just replace the Soxtalk banner with this post and close all the Sale trade threads?

I was at a recruiting event for my employer when I got a text from my brother saying they'd hired Robin. What a mystifying decision. I was so upset. It took every effort not to cuss out loud. It's one of the most vivid White Sox memories I have in the last five years. Is that sad? I think that's sad.
