  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) The Score has been reporting that Cespedes is going to make a decision very soon on where he is going to sign. Where are they getting that from? Soon can mean this week which analysts were tweeting yesterday.
  2. My order of preference: Cespedes Upton Jackson Fowler But I wouldn't be mad with any of them.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 06:53 AM) except Jacksons last good year was in Comerica, and his last two dismal years were out of Comerica To be fair, he moved to Safeco.
  4. So does Cespedes sign this week or closer to the start of Spring Training? What are your guys thoughts?
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) Peter Gammons ‏@pgammo 2m2 minutes ago Thrice today I had execs say "watch the Astros on Cespedes." 5th best HR park in MLB in '15. Good lineup. OK, I'm watching https://twitter.com/pgammo I'm not sure if I buy this one....definitely not the Larry King tweet Wonder what would happen then. Trade Gomez and play Rasmus in CF?
  6. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Who is another viable option for the Sox to be their Cleanup hitter? It would be reassuring to know that there is another candidate, if Cespedes signs elsewhere. Please don't tell me that Cabrera, or Frazier is going to bat behind Abreu, or God forbid Adam La Roche. There must be a player out there somewhere, whom the Sox could acquire, without giving up too much. Is there someone, to whom a team would like to rid themselves of paying a high salary, for the next 2 to 3 years? Someone besides CarGo or Ethier? If you want to trade for a cleanup hitter without "giving up much," you're going to be disappointed in who we would get.
  7. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) Will the Sox actually pony up or fall short? Probably fall short.
  8. If I had to guess which ones are still having talks with him: 1. White Sox 2. Mets 3. Cardinals 4. Braves (their name has been in the mix lately) 5. Blue Jays (could see them having interest) 6. Tigers 7. Angels I really don't know about the other 3.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) Yoenis Cespedes process is intensifying and something could get done in the next few days.....hearing as many as... https://t.co/7BotMT70uM https://twitter.com/JimBowden_ESPN/status/688758117841027072 Wow. Ten teams (assuming it's true)?
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 07:26 AM) and since your org post, i further explained that i do not like a contract to exceed 34 yrs of age for a FA..... a strange inconsistency in your excuse.... post. And a 5 year deal wouldn't take him past 34. He would turn 35 the October of the final year. So a 5 year deal does not exceed the age of 34 really. They'd have him for his age 30-34 seasons.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) so you can count.... impressive, however according to baseball ref he is 30 now.... do the counting. i will like the contract to end at age 34... but that is me... baseball FO has their own mind. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cespeyo01.shtml He is 30 now correct and a 5 year deal would take him through his age 34 season. Just turned 30 a couple months ago.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) I mean that there is a scenario where he is worse than an elite closer. I think he ends up as a solid #2 starter, but it is possible for him to be worse than an elite closer. Definitely. I hope we don't see him in the rotation this year. Build up more innings this year in the minors plus possible late bullpen addition for potential playoff push.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) This contract makes literally no f***ing sense. Why not use that $70 million to try to lock up one of their stars (Hosmer, Moustakas, Cain, etc) rather than signing an aging NL pitcher? I don't get it, but more power to them. Hosmer and Moustakas are Boras clients correct? No way they'd be able to re-sign them if that's the case.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) If Davis would just sign with the O's it would change the whole game with Cespedes. He would then truly have to take a lesser contract because there is no one else willing, it seems, that would be able to pay him Orioles money. Davis take the damn money already dude. WTH are you waiting on? No one else is going to give you over 125mil. Seriously.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 06:35 AM) I think it's way too early to consider an extension. We got to see how he handles 2B and if he takes any steps forward with the bat. I think around the All-Star break is far more realistic. This. I say wait.
  16. Dude has no power. Hard pass.
  17. Baltimore might as well move on and say f*** Chris Davis. Cespedes will be less money, years and with Davis still out there to sign with another team, you can still receive a comp pick for him.
  18. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) It probably has nothing to do with other moves but is it possible Alexei signing with the Padres indicates the Sox are ready to move on something? I would imagine Alexei went to the Sox and asked if they wanted to match or work something out. I wouldn't imagine Alexei signing somewhere else effects the time line on any other moves. They've known he was going somewhere else.
  19. I don't see why they need to move on from Cespedes yet. I don't see many teams in on Fowler or Jackson (my preference out of him and Fowler) to the point where we need to start being worried about not getting anyone.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Here's what I continue to not like about Fowler. He is not a bad player. He's a good player! But I hate this outfield for the next 3 years: Melky Eaton Fowler At its best, that is maybe 45 HRs from the outfield, but more realistically it is around 30. We would still want to upgrade one of those positions throughout fowlers contract. Melky is only signed for 2 more years and is likely the 2017 DH but I get your point.
  21. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Did you watch the playoffs? He's probably the best option out of him, Granderson and Conforto.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) Some rumors that Cespedes might be close to going back to the Mets http://www.nysportsday.com/2016/01/13/excl...-with-the-mets/ Man they really lucked out with Cuddyer retiring.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) your post makes it 177 Lol well there you go
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:46 AM) ??? I only see 27 pages, although my settings might be different. This thread has 176
  25. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) Unfair to compare this to an open market contract for Cespedes/et al. 5/$50 seems great, but don't forget he was still an arb guy before this deal, so it isn't as much of a discount as it seems once you factor that in. MLBTR put his arb projection at $5.9 for 2016. Assuming raises to $9 and $12 in 2017 and 2018 (total stabs in the dark, I admit), that would make this more like a $2/23 extension. Which is still nice. Could just say it buys out 2 years of free agency or whatever.
