  1. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Done Deal. Arrieta wins the Cy Young. This ought to blow up his price. When Steve Stone explained why he would probably win a few months ago it made sense. If anyone had any sort of bias towards LA, Greinke and Kershaw would likely split the votes.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) For those that are wanting Rich Hill, he is close to signing, Rays and Padres look to be the front runners. I get the reasoning why some people wanted Hill to sign with the Sox, but injury risk, and the amount of innings he has pitched in the last 6 years just don't add up with his age. People on here were saying they'd offer 2 years and almost 20 mill for him. He's expected to sign for 1/$5 mill haha
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) I hope Sale gives the Sox a 'Hometown Discount' after his current deal is up, but I don't see that as being realistic. I'd love it though if he was on the Sox for his entire career. Up to now, he really has no reason to give them a discount. Already signed a team-friendly deal and the team has been horrible over the past 3 years. I'm sure he'd rather go somewhere where he could compete.. We'll see how the next few years go and see if we have any success.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 11:07 AM) Ok, maybe $400 million is a little crazy, but I do think he'd get a deal similar to Kershaw at the very least. He keeps pitching the way he has been, he certainly won't be with this organization after 2019. Contracts escalate every offseason. He'll get a 7/8 year deal worth at least 30/35 mill a year.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) Because he's not worth that much? Not really what my point was. He probably would have rejected it as he was still undecided about even playing and only had a week to decide if he should take it or not. I remember during the season people on here even said he'd for sure get one, and that's when everyone thought the QO would even higher. But then again it was likely out of respect for him so he had a chance to go somewhere else.
  6. I'm feeling a move some time this week. Don't know who or what position but I feel we're due.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) i wonder what posters opinion of the sox getting cf-Maybin from Atl. I'd be ok with it. Don't know what his value is though. I did however read that the Braves may have to deal him if no one will take Bourn or Swisher.
  8. Who else do you think will be available? Besides Freeman (probably their best asset), Swisher and Bourn (wouldn't get much back)? Maybin? Some of their young starters in the MLB already to make room for guys just stock piled for?
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) The Braves are shopping Freddie Freeman https://t.co/WYpzvdFXSw https://twitter.com/HardballTalk/status/666029422525284352 Wonder if the Sox would try. I would assume not.
  10. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) There's no possible way the White Sox could ever get true value for Sale. They'd have to find a team that is so stacked at the minor league level that they'd be willing to trade (and probably destroy) their top prospects for him. These top prospects can't be from a team like the current White Sox system; they would have to come from an organization that has 4 or 5 top 50 MLB prospects, and it's hard to argue that the White Sox shouldn't get all of these prospects back. Even if the White Sox were more focused on getting major league talent back, you're still talking 1-2 top young pieces plus minor league talent from that top 50 MLB list. It's just extremely unlikely that the White Sox will be able to find a team willing to move as much as they should seemingly ask for. I agree with this. Can't see him being moved until mid-2017 at the earliest when he has 2.5 season of control (and not a rental) left as opposed to 4. Edit: I should say mid-2017 if we are doing bad and are out of it in June/July and if the state of the organization still looks rough. At that point, deal him for max val
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) Did you see what the Bosox gave up for Kimbrel? They have more prospects left, plus Swihart. Not saying it'll happen, but I hear it's being discussed. Source assuming what you're talking about is the White Sox and Red Sox are talking about a deal?
  12. Anyone else find it a little odd he didn't receive a QO? He's on the fence about playing and seems like he would have been a guy that would have declined (don't think its all about the money at this point for him). Kind of reminds me of A.J. Burnett a few years ago when he was on the fence of retiring and Pirates thought he would retire and they didn't offer a QO and then signed a deal with Philadelphia.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) I think it's a safe bet that they'll pick in the 26-28 range. There are 17 free agents with QO's attached. Even if only 6 teams lose 1st rounders, that puts the Sox at #27. Ideally it'll be like 8 teams and they'll get the 25th pick. 16* free agents with QOs attached. 20 offered a QO, 3 accepted and Estrada re-signed with the Jays.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) The Boston prospects are still at least a year away, maybe 2 or 3. I didn't mean improve the roster with just this deal. Mostly the freeing up money to spend in other spots (they've already been linked to Desmond who has potential to be a lot better than anyone they've trotted out there the past couple years).
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) I wonder what the Sox could get for DRob. I wonder the same. If the Sox were offered 2 good prospects for Robertson I'd probably pull the trigger. Going into last off-season, Robertson is someone I really didn't want them to spend money on. But when they did, it was kind of like "well I hope he does good since he's here." Wasn't exactly thrilled and would rather have the extra money to spend.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Half of the NL isn't even pretending to compete for next year I don't think the Padres are rebuilding. All they did was clear 2 expensive relievers to try to improve other positions.
  17. This was discussed before but I don't remember if anyone confirmed it, but we will have the third pick after the first round. Padres get first 2 with Upton and Kennedy declining. We likely may have second since I am predicting Padres sign someone who will cost a draft pick. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/157232438/qu...dbpr=5768707450 This article explains the order. We have the ten pick and then possibly somewhere in the low-20s.
  18. They got more back than what they gave up because when they got Kimbrel they also took on Melvin Upton Jr. in the deal.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) Sale is a lot more valuable than Kimbrel IMO. In your opinion? Well it's pretty obvious to everyone.
  20. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Clearly you wouldn't want to sign Yoenis Cespedes, for example, if it meant having to give up a Josh Phegley 4 years away from playing in the majors. I'll be honest, I don't know what you mean since Cespedes has no free agent comp with him.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) 3 top 50 picks, I'll take it. Don't jinx it. Edit: Though I don't think they will sign anyone who will cost a draft pick.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) Braves apparently resigned AJ Perzynski. With Wieters and AJ both off the market kind of looks as if Flowers stays our main mug behind the plate?? Didn't expect either anyway.
  23. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) Are you sure about this? He is currently a free agent, so I don't know if thats true. They can't trade him. In the story on MLBTR about Rasmus accepting, it says the team can't trade him until June (or maybe July).
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 07:40 AM) From what I have read, they fleeced the angels. They got a starting SS who isnt bad himself, and their top pitching prospects plus cash, and removed a 53 million dollar committment Those Braves are really stocking up. They have to have the best farm in baseball after all those deals the past year.
  25. QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) They shouldn't have given him a QO. Padres shouldn't have given Kennedy a QO; given this news, I would say he is almost certain to accept. Kendrick might accept too. No way Boras will let him decline.
