My take on Vargas is he has a chance to be a solid regular every day player, maybe platoon bench bat at worst. Problem is, I would want someone who hits for more power than that at 1B or 3B.

Same as Fedde pitched well for the Sox and had another year on his deal.

You don’t have to add some guys that are eligible, as they still may need to develop and may not have any risk in getting picked (like someone who is signed when they’re 17 that has to be added like 4-5 years later).

I think he means pick up the option now, still trade him but also include to pay down the salary for next year so a team gets him cheap for rest of this year, cheap in 2026, and a team option for 2027.
