Rangers might trade lefthanded hitter/outfielder
Bob Sacamano replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only Calhoun that applies to a conversation about trading with the Rangers lol -
Ah gotcha. Thanks.
-
What math are you doing here? I'm seeing a .380 OBP from Grandal and .328 from McCann.
-
Depends. If he plays here another 3-4 year and keeps pumping up his numbers, it might be justified. But yes, as of now, he doesn't deserve it.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
Bob Sacamano replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also no reason to think Betts would even sign an extension with us. He's pretty much declined to talk extension with the Red Sox, a team that drafted him and hes played his entire career for. -
I don't really want him back at that price. Seems like he will be on a decline soon.

I'm not so sure about that. I'd expect at least one top-100 prospect. -
Yeah I would too honestly. Do you keep him as the primary backup OF over a better defensive OF or do you go with a 4-man bench of: catcher, backup infielder, 4th OF type, and Leury? It would be nice to have some sort of bat with pop that can start for an extended period of time if guys have some 10-day IL stints.
-
Agreed. Personally, I would like for them to keep one of Leury/Yolmer as a backup, have a defensive first OF on the bench like Engel as a late inning sub, and then have another bat on the bench that has some pop. With a backup catcher, that's a 4-man bench. I wouldn't mind them going with a 5-man bench like teams used to do though.
-
In a starting role? I hope not. But as a bench piece, sure.
-
I hope he goes to the Brewers, just to improve a rival team to the Cubs. I would probably put Keuchel, Wheeler, and Bumgarner in the same tier under Cole and Strasburg (assuming opt-out).

His quote from yesterday didn't seem so re-assuring that he would stay. -

I could kind of see Collins moved in the off-season too. For what? Who knows. -
Eloy go-ahead homers in 2 games this year, both games Nova won. 2 of my favorites.
-
I think Maddon is going back to the Angels. Ausmus was fired after just one year and Maddon coached, played, and scouted for them.

A little different trading a guy with 3.5 years of control and a guy that has 1 year of control. -

This is why I'm fine with them adding 2 starters. Get someone for the front and then sign a back-end starter. Let Kopech start the season in the minors for a month and evaluate how Lopez and the other starter are doing over that time. Bump one to pen or send Lopez to AAA or decide if he could be better in the pen as a late inning arm. -

He doesn't make us World Series contenders in 2020. Heck, we don't know if we are playoff contenders with a lot of our unknowns for next year. If he had 2 years of control, sure, I would be willing. But not for one season. Maybe sniff around and see if any other teams are willing to deal their stars with a couple years of control left (re-boot for next year, shift resources, etc.) and see if they are attainable. -

Can always trade later- either the prospect or veteran. -

If he had at least another year of control I'd be on board. But with only one year, a year where guys are still going to be going through growing pains most likely (Kopech, Cease, Robert, Madrigal, Collins if he is on the roster) as well as seeing if guys can sustain or grow on success from this year, I say pass. -

I would also be ok with the team carrying 7 relievers instead of 8 and having a 5-man bench (5-man benches like teams used to have).
