Because the hitter is out and Sam doesn’t have to go to second with the force out at first. Literally the same as when a first baseman starts a double play by tagging first base and throwing to second and needing to tag the runner.

I know that. But once he comes back out to face Benintendi and they announce a pinch hitter, I don’t know if they could take him out.

He ended last inning on the mound. I think once he came out to start the inning, he needed to finish his 3 batters.

Hurry back. I feel like I went for a short walk with the family yesterday and somehow missed half the game. Saw the first couple innings last 2.
