  1. I mean, the winning offer is likely to be considered "stupid money" regardless since it will be such a high, record breaking amount. The amount of people on this board that want either Harper or Machado are going to flip sides to the "good thing we didn't spend that amount of money on either" side after they sign with another team.
  2. Just offer the most money. Likely the Phillies game plan regardless if they deal Santana or not. They can worry about moving him or other money after.
  3. I like Santana's OBP skills. Honestly, if we ended up non-tendering or trading Garcia, and decided we can just roll with Palka in RF in a platoon next year, I wouldn't mind Santana as the DH.
  4. Senzel isn't getting dealt for lesser prospects. A young established starter in the MLB with some control? Sure.
  5. What is Passan "on to?" He just said it's the first signing with his comment and not suggesting things will heat up.
  6. No ones preoccupied with Eloy being a super 2. We all expect that.
  7. Yeah, if we're down like 4 in the 9th, I have no problem with him in there. Unless we make enough moves to where you can squint and possibly see a contending team.
  8. Yeah that's pretty crazy.
  9. Indians would probably be interested. They're pretty thin out there in the OF.
  10. Least surprising person to comment in here.
  11. He's projected to get like $16m in arbitration next season so there's no way he would accept that. Though, I don't think it would take a lot for him to stay since it truly seems like he wants to stay here.
  12. Yeah these guys are 26. That is rare for free agency. I'd rather overpay on one of these guys than stars who are free agents at 29/30/31.
  13. Yeah I've been ready to turn the page on him for a while.
  14. No way would they would spend what it would take to sign 2 of Harper, Machado, Arenado.
  15. There is always, of course, a possibility that a team would take him on a 3-year deal. I personally would probably still gamble on him at that as he can get some rest in the DH spot often as well.
  16. Earlier in the year he was projected to get around 4/5 years. He could take a one year deal to play for a 2-4 year deal next off-season.
  17. Donaldson on a 1-year deal for him to rebuild value isn't crazy. Maybe like a 1-year $20m deal.
  18. I think giving opt-outs after years 4 and 5 would be a good motivator to potentially open up the window in 2019. Yes, they would have to add a couple more pieces to the lineup (example: if signing Harper, sign Donaldson or Lowrie to play 3B; if Machado, add an OF) and a SP or two, but you can hope that the youngsters make strides and hope they can catch lightning in a bottle. They also wouldn't lose any prospects going this route so it wouldn't be that bad of a plan. It wouldn't be completely abandoning the rebuilding idea.
  19. If theres a prospect for prospect type deal, it won't be a 3 for 1 where they get the better prospect. That just doesn't happen in the league.
