  1. I guess if you're going to do this with a young player, it makes sense to do it with a reliever since they are so volatile from year to year. Still though, if the Mariners are rebuilding, why not sell high on Diaz in a different deal and keep Cano? Unless it isn't a complete teardown?
  2. Yeah I've read that they prefer to move Bauer due to the cost uncertainty (the 2 arb years you mentioned) while Kluber is signed for 3 more years.
  3. Well no. Maybe one starter. Even dealing one of their starters, their rotation is still good. They would likely get a bat or two that would start the year on the MLB team as well (Verdugo?).
  4. I just want to turn the page on shitty Sox teams that were supposed to be good. Him being below average those years was a part of it. Time to move on.
  5. It's actually after 2021. Baseball Reference lists 2022 which means he's a free agent during the off-season of 21/22. As a reference, look up a current free agent and he is listed as free agent eligible in 2019 (just checked Bryce Harper as an example).
  6. For the White Sox or MLB in general? It's only the first month of the off-season. I'd still consider it early.
  7. Meeting with the Yankees soon. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/phillies-rumors-patrick-corbin-meeting.html I'd guess a decision is made by the start of the Winter Meetings (about 10 days from now).
  8. Cano still has a solid bat. The Mariners may as well just keep him if they're going to rebuild since their payroll would be low anyway. Would be better than dealing away top young players with him just to get rid of him. It would be the exact opposite of our ideas here of taking on bad contracts to acquire an interesting prospect.
  9. They could easily still afford Machado or Harper. Would also fit in line with the owner's "spending stupid" comment.
  10. If they tender him a contract, wouldn't the Sox owe him like less than half of his salary if he is cut by the end of Spring Training? I remember they did that with Tank and Lawrie.
  11. If they signed someone like Harper before Donaldson signed, then sure. Signing him could make sense as you may want to nudge the window open next year and hope to catch lightning in a bottle knowing that you may only have Harper for 4 years (if he were to opt-out).
  12. They have no plans on selling everybody. Maybe one or two big guys to help fill the rest of the MLB roster with young talent at other needs.
  13. That's about what I expected. A one year deal to rebuild value. And their payroll is low enough to throw a high salary out there.
  14. Why does everyone just assume teams would give away their best young players to get rid of their worst contracts? If the Sox had Cano and Haniger, would you deal Haniger and Cano to receive nothing? If the Sox did that, we would all be pissed that they just gave up their worst asset.
  15. Those 3 are grouped together because Eovaldi and Smyly each signed 2 year deals despite missing the first full season of the deal. Basically in the same spot as Richards.
  16. Stanton also has to waive his no-trade clause and that's not happening for the White Sox.
  17. Agreed. 2 year deal is fair similar to the Eovaldi and Smyly deals. Each was out the first full year of the deal.
  18. Yeah I agree with you. It depends on which lane they go. If they're able to land Machado (big IF for sure), then I would rather get an established OF and maybe try to catch lightning in a bottle in 2019 (basically hoping the youngster make strides and hope to compete). But if they don't, I don't mind giving the shot to anyone other than Garcia since it will likely be more like 2018 lol
  19. I saw that but don't really see how he fits. He hits lefties but so did Davidson last year. I'm sure Cron will get a starting job somewhere (Colorado?).
  20. Who said anything about replacing Palka? Maybe this dude would be worth a spring training invite and see if he can play RF.
