Chase Headley to Padres

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) Well this was a generally quiet first day for everyone huh? Yeah. Biggest move was what, Phillies signing Neshek?
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) This is not true. The White Sox are a big market club. If they let Abreu walk after 2019, they will receive a pick after the 2nd round for his services. Yeah I couldn't remember the exact factors. Thanks. Still should be a point brought up in trade discussions though (especially if he goes somewhere like Colorado or St. Louis).
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) Those aren't very high anymore. There's factors (like his contract size, >$50 mill) but it should be after the first round. Teams just don't automatically give up their highest pick.
-
Abreu can also net a comp pick when/if he leaves in 2 years.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 07:11 AM) Unless you are wanting to send Eloy back to the Cubs and take an inferior offer, I don't want to hear about not trading with rivals. Right. And it's not like we are dealing a long-term piece. We're talking 2 years. Plus, the cost is higher for division rivals.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeyman 13m13 minutes ago Matt Adams didn’t have a great trade market but he’s drawing interest as a free agent. Nats royals Indians via @jcrasnick Guy mashes right-handers. Makes sense in a platoon somewhere. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) I mean, I've kind of walked through this multiple times now, but the idea would be to buy low and take advantage of a desperate Red Sox front office. Most of the analytics community believes JBJ is the superior asset because he's younger, cheaper, under an additional year of control, and plays a premium position. I myself personally would probably avoid doing a 1 for 1 swap because I place significant value on what Abreu does off the field. Having said that, if the Red Sox gave me a secondary piece that was too good to pass up (Chavis being my example), I'd likely take such a deal and hope for JBJ's offensive game to rebound a little bit and look into trading at the deadline or next offseason. It's usually not too hard to find a taker for a talented, fairly young CF. Again, this all assumes my scouts believe that JBJ is likely to rebound and that I can get a nice secondary piece as part of the deal. Red Sox don't really have any prospects I really want added to a potential package personally.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I wonder if the White Sox will let teams know James Shields is available. The Royals can't possibly think other teams thought these guys were untouchable could they? haha seriously. And the Sox should and also should be willing to eat close to all the remaining salary to facilitate a move. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) It is horribly written but I assume it means the most active the Sox will be is during the Rule V draft. Oh yeah that makes sense. I kind of expect this anyway (barring overpay).

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) I don’t understand what that tweet means? Yeah someone needs to proof read that.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales 1m1 minute ago Jose Contreras also will join The White Sox as an ambassador, helping minor leaguers as well All the Cubans.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Everyone would be shocked if he was able to repeat 2017. He will have plenty of lineup protection, so who knows? This lineup is disgusting... 1. Brett Gardner, LF 2. Didi Gregorius, SS 3. Giancarlo Stanton, DH 4. Aaron Judge, RF 5. Gary Sanchez, C 6. Greg Bird, 1B 7. Aaron Hicks, CF 8. Gleyber Torres, 2B 9. Chase Headley, 3B Wasn't Judge hitting 2nd this year? I assume he would just stay there. Still nasty anyway you line them up.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Funny how that works... Then again, I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams ever even gave Judge a ceiling of what he did last year. Severino has had some pretty big hype though and wasn't as much of a surprise. Yeah and anyone would be shocked if Judge did that again.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) I believe I through out a Severino/Judge/Mateo hypothetical and the general consensus was it was too light. If only we knew what those first two players would develop into just a year later. Everyone here was down on both after their first cup of coffees in the bigs. People look way too into small sample sizes.

Mets and Rangers have discussed Harvey for Profar. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Lets be honest, there was no chance Otani was going to sign with the Orioles anyway Same goes for about 20 other teams that actually made presentations.

Rockies in on Santana.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) That's an excellent Clint Frazier match. Yeah especially since they may move McCutchen. Frazier, Marte, Polanco in the OF then.
-
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Would Abreu plus Avi G be enough to get Benintendi . Chavis,. and another prospect from BoSox? I don't think so, but thought I would ask for other opinions. I don't think they want to trade Benintendi.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeyman 41m41 minutes ago Yankees are interested in gerrit cole, who they once drafted. But initial impression is pirates arent trading him. Ha yeah right. He sure as hell won't be extended.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) The fact that we have zero members of the 2017 opening day bullpen on the 40 man roster today is mind blowing. Nate Jones?
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) Why can't we take on JBJ and try to flip him later? If our scouts believe he's closer to the hitter he was in 2015/2016 (wRC+ of 120ish) than last year (wRC+ of 90), then he's seems like an incredible buy low type guy. I would most definitely need a secondary piece that offers some long-term potential like Chavis, but a deal like this could make a ton of sense for us. Again, got to trust your scounts on this one. You really want a "buy-low type guy" to be the first piece in an Abreu deal?
-
QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) Oops, my bad. For whatever reason, I had it in my head that Sale was Monday noon-ish and Eaton was late afternoon Tuesday. All good.
