2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) After Piscotty goes to the A's, there's still Yelich, McCutchen and the free agent outfielders available. Hopefully the Red Sox can lock up JDM soon. Would he DH mostly though? I thought I read that Hanley is moving back to 1B next season. IF JDM is in the OF, then Bradley is available even more. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) I don't think these new owners are worse. It was a s***ty situation and new ownership has to start somewhere. They are in the process of building equity. The sale of the Astros was finalized in November of 2011. I don't believe their financial situation was quite as dire, but they cut $16 million from 2011 to 2012, and then cut $34 million from 2012 to 2013, as their ending payroll in 2013 was $29 million. To start to become profitable again, the Marlins needed to save money elsewhere, and that involves trading away guys who make a lot of money. It sucks, but it is what it is. That's true. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) I thank the baseball gods everyday that we pulled the trigger on our rebuild when we did because we are now kicking it off with a f***ton of talent and should only endure two or three non-competitive seasons if things go as planned. The Marlins are easily looking at a 5 plus year rebuild based on what they got in their first three big trades. Rebuilding is always going to be far more risky/painful when relying on draft picks rather than semi-proven minor leaguers. Tigers and Royals also have a long road ahead of them. Great timing indeed. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Giants would still seem to be a fit. A's if Piscotty deal falls through. I'm not sure 2 years of Avi makes sense for the A's. Piscotty is signed for 5 years with an option for a 6th so I kinda get that one. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Different situations for sure, but I feel so bad for anyone that calls themselves a Marlins fan right now. From Fernandez' death, to completely gutting the team for what I consider to be a mediocre return (for now), the Marlins have become an embarrassment. They went from awful owners to somehow worse owners as well. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) Yelich is not going to want to stick around during a rebuild. Having an unhappy player in the clubhouse would not be a good thing at all. Joel ShermanVerified account @Joelsherman1 9m9 minutes ago More Alcantara is big piece going to #Marlins in 4-player package, hear other 3 are minor leaguers of less ilk #Stlcards Wow, if Alcantara is the best piece heading to the Marlins I am calling right now about Yelich^ It will have 0 effect on his trade value as most teams would want him. He has no say in where he can go (like Stanton) so it doesn't matter if he says he wants to get dealt or not. He just has to go out there and play, whether he is happy or not. I doubt we read an article headlined: "Yelich unhappy with Marlins" in coming months. You didn't hear Q complain when he was in the same situation or any other leftover veteran on a rebuilding team. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) In theory, yes it should. Remember we are dealing with a fire sale Marlins organization right now and Yelich will be requesting a trade. They essentially have to trade him or they will have a very upset player on their hands. The Sox did not have to deal Eaton unless the return was great, I can't say the same for the Marlins and Yelich now as they have lost leverage. You know this how? He kinda just has to shutup and play honestly. I don't remember him being outspoken towards the Marlins like Stanton has like every year the past few years. -

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Wow. guess we know he isn't in the Marlins deal.. How many years did Ozuna have on his deal? 2 years of control. -

Yelich should bring back a few legit prospects so I don't see the fit here. 25, 5 years left of control and more pop in his bat than Eaton. Like I said above, it takes more than that deal. -

Cards will likely still be in the market for a CI whether it be at 1B or 3B (Abreu, Longoria, Donaldson and even Machado). -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) I don't think you could snag Yelich without trading Kopech or Hansen Yeah Yelich is locked up for 5 more years and is 25. The floor of a deal is the Eaton trade. -

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) its the Marlins we are talking about here, they practically gave Stanton away Way different situation. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) Cubs and Indians have talked about Salazar. Indians looking for a LHB. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/cubs...azar-trade.html Could Theo be considering trading his all star kick ball champion, Kyle Schwarber? Lol, cubs interested in another pitcher with an injury history. I think I would definitely trade Schwarber for him.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 10:49 PM) His agent also said everyone was notified in November that he had that blood platelet injection in his pitching elbow (as did Tanaka) as a "precaution." Angels said they knew about this before they signed him. Yeah it's not a ton of money invested in him so its all good

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 11:09 PM) Hahn is licking his chops to trade Avi and Abreu and complete the tearing down. Then the heat's on him to get those younguns to the majors and start winning. Oh wait, the heat's not on GMs who rebuild. Fans love the unknown and the window of patience will be at least five more years with Sox fans who like all fans love the rebuild. Alright man time to get off the carousel. How many times do we need to read this exact quote from you?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) I meant as in a premier hitter. I dont think hes proven that yet. Most everyone to get the money he will has hit on another level compared to him. Obviously his contract will become closer and closer to the norm for stars as the years go by, but man it just seems like everyon e is willing to fork over one of the biggest contracts in sports history no questions asked. A free agent of his caliber at his age is rare. Look at what teams were offering Heyward because he was a 26-year old free agent. And Heyward was nowhere near the hitter Machado has been. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:21 PM) Roughly what the Yankees gave up for Stanton should be the market to give someone $300 million. Not at all. Marlins were handcuffed on that deal. All about getting rid of his contract and it was limited to 4 teams, and only 3 of those teams had interest. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) Granting a negotiating window does not equate to some notion of surplus value or control, however. I understand it provides additional leverage for the Os but it doesn’t exactly equate to Machado + years and years of affordable control. Dunning and Cease are two valuable commodities that greatly exceed what the Yankees just gave up for Stanton. Eh I still say it can get beat. O's would pretty much have to take different kinds of offers with teams: straight one year rental and then offers with a negotiating window. And then weigh which offer they think is the best and then go through the negotiation window stage. Personally, I think it's moot since Machado probably wants to go to free agency.
