  1. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) I read somewhere on twitter he's basically best friends with Manny Machado. Doubt it is true but maybe Castillo can help for a big push for him next offseason. It's a bit out there for sure but it can't hurt to speculate. I saw someone posted that too but it looked more hopeful than actual fact. Here's one I saw: https://twitter.com/zinker_22/status/936663921414627328
  2. All he could get was 2 years with an option?
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) I'm all for veteran leadership, but not at a cost of $20 million per season on a losing team. Is there a chance we compete in 2019? Of course, but I would bet on us being a .500 team or less still. Our young players will go through growing pains as they enter the major leagues and we need to completely rebuild the bullpen. 2019 opening day roster C- Narvaez + ? 1B - possibly Abreu or ? 2B - Moncada SS - Beckham 3B - ? LF - Jimenez CF - ? RF - maybe Avi or ? DH - ? Bench? Rotation Rodon? Kopech Giolito Lopez Hansen? Dunning? Stephens? Adams? Fulmer? Bullpen???? The picture is too cloudy right now for us to determine what 2019 is going to look like. The next wave of prospects like Jimenez, Kopech, Collins, Hansen and Dunning should likely be up at the mlb level by 2019 at some point. Did you confuse Tim Beckham and Tim Anderson?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Click the link, it is worth it. John Trupin‏ @JohnTrupin 12h12 hours ago Shohei Ohtani obliterated the Philadelphia Phillies, alas https://twitter.com/JohnTrupin/status/936463342859726848 LMAO
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Yeah Magneuris Sierra is a leadoff profile with elite level defense in CF. Flaherty and Sierra would probably be a nice deal for Sox. I'm open to acquiring a long-term leadoff hitter. Can't really pencil Anderson there long-term until he starts taking walks.
  6. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) I prefer Abreu over Garcia, so it would sting more to see him go, but I went with Jose primarily because the return would likely be much better than anything you could hope to get for Avi. Age is the other factor at play for me. That said, if some team offers up a return for Avi that isn't crafted under the assumption that his 2017 was a fluke, then he's the guy. Moving either of them just for the sake of moving someone won't help the rebuild. The assumption in this vote is you are getting what you think is fair. So if you get a haul you think is fair (whatever that may be) for Avi's 2017, then that would be my vote.
  7. Posted mine in another thread, but here it is (obviously, one the Sox or any MLB team would create would be more professional but here's bullet points): 1. Guaranteed at-bats 2-3 games between starts no matter if he struggles (contender probably can't hold onto that promise if he is struggling) for 2 years. 2. No Japanese stars 3. Medical/training staff. Sox are great at breaking in young pitchers into the league. Will be breaking in others for a full season of work so Sox can carry 6th starter/long reliever type to help make it through the season and provide more rest. 4. Can grow with the rest of the young players brought in over the past year (and even before that) 5. While Chicago does not have a huge Japanese population, Chicago has a very diverse population in general. Also, have Tadahito Iguchi reach out to him to talk about his time in the city.
  8. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) Score another point for the White Sox. Sox push for him: 1. Guaranteed at-bats 2-3 games between starts no matter if he struggles (contender probably can't hold onto that promise if he is struggling) for 2 years. 2. No Japanese stars 3. Medical/training staff. Sox are great at breaking in young pitchers into the league. 10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) Shohei Ohtani development: Multiple @MLB team execs believe Ohtani may actually prefer to sign with a club that doesn’t already have a Japanese star; Ohtani’s camp has not commented on that. @MLBNetwork https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/936600677220003841 How many Japanese "stars" are there even in the MLB currently? Tanaka? Wherever Darvish signs? Or does it just mean players in general?
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Ratio-ed Well if anything Ron just guaranteed another awesome year from Jose LOL
  12. QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) Gawd you Abreuniks slay me... The Jose lovefest never ends. I like him as much as anybody, but I just don't see the point in NOT trading him when his value is high and when they can resign him if they so desire. But, spending that 20 M a year for 3-4 years youd spend on Abreu would look much nicer in a front loaded Machado contract. The question was "who would you rather trade?" I would rather sell high on Avi due to Jose having more of a track record.
  13. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) I think you still have to include collins to that Group as some Scouts think he won't cut it defensively at catcher. of course neither of them is proven but you have to take some gambles in a rebuild. I mean if you wanted only proven Players you shouldnt have traded sale, q and eaton in the first place. Well duh. Except we're not going to trade Abreu without getting a big prospect or two back like each of those deals though. My preference: 1. Trade him for a haul 2. Extend him to a 4-5 year deal 3. Trade him in a deal where you do not receive a top prospect or two 4. Ride out these 2 years and get nothing for him (other than a draft pick)
  14. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 05:34 AM) extending abreu doesn't really make sense. basically half of the sox hitting prospects are 1B , DH or fringy 3B that might have to shift to first. even if they never become as good as abreu (which probably is quite likely) still one of them should have more value down the road than abreu in a couple years if you consider decline and salary. of course they all could fail but honestly if you target Corner Players that much and neither of them makes it your rebuild won't work anyway. some dices just Need to fall your way for a successfull rebuild. the sox Need one or two of those Corner guys to become at least 2-3 win (ideally of course 3+) Players so they can spend Money on Areas that might Need an upgrade down the road (SS, C, maybe a pitcher or two or CF). How many of those guys are proven? Can always trade from depth later.
  15. F*** it, come at me bruh.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Generally "Teasers" are supposed to be shorter, but I've never seen a 5 minute trailer. I've seen people combine 2-3 trailers into a single one - that happened for Star Wars last year and I shared it here, but that wasn't an official thing, the trailers were each about 2 minutes. Maybe not 5 but definitely longer than 4 mins. I've seen a lot of close to 4:30 trailers.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I have to imagine they are also looking at all of the Braves kids that just got set loose. That too.
  18. QUOTE (FT35 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) Exactly. It's the Red Sox who are inquiring...not us. The pressure is on them to ante up because they are the ones in "win now" mode. I think it's funny all the Boston fans saying this prospect or that player is TOO MUCH for Abreu. Well...it doesn't really matter because if it's too much, you don't get the player you're asking for if you don't match the price. I know the logic is profound...but if you believe a certain player is the missing link to a championship run, you pay to get him. If not, you pay an inflated amount to get someone not as good on the FA market and hope it works out in your favor. Not much else to it. Go sign Adam Lind if that's closer to your price range. I'm thinking they sign Santana. That way they hold onto their last few chips and don't have to go over 4 years or sign Hosmer long-term.
  19. Unique enough for this thread?
  20. Angels received $1.21 million, all of the Braves remaining bonus pool money, along with Johnson for a prospect. Angels now have $1.315 million to offer Ohtani. I'll add them to the list of teams I expect to sign him (along with Yankees, Rangers and Mariners).
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) Assuming all of them are successful AND healthy? I wouldn't bet on it. Both Davidson and Cordell missed significant amounts of time last season. I was just saying to POSSIBLY open up the year. Whether they could last a full year, who knows.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) If Avi and Abreu are dealt, there will be at least a couple of these kind of guys who play this year for sure. You'd have Gillaspie at first if he is good in the spring, Davidson at DH (which is likely right now), Cordell in RF.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) Damn it Law, you dream crusher. I still will blindly believe ? Still willing to give him a year or two of at bats to prove him wrong. Worst case scenario, a team still has his arm.
