  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) If we intended to compete, Avi would also likely have been gone. I think it's actually fair to say that most of our most productive players (Kahnle, Swarzak, Leury, Yolmer, etc.) may not be here or have gotten a shot. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Nor Davidson as another bat would have been brought in to DH Excellent points.
  2. QUOTE (Yoda @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) This is just my advice, learn to live and be happy by yourself. Between the ages of 22-25 I was working a consistent work schedule: Tue-Sat. So of course everyone wants to be with their family or significant other on a Sunday and everyone is back at work on Monday's. But, I HAD some great times going out to the city on a Sunday evening, meeting new people, having a girl swing by every now and then and some time to just myself. I'm a dad now and I feel happy being with my gf and 6 month old. The whole friend thing I don't really miss cause I guess I never really had much of it. And no, I'm not a loner. I will occasionally have friends swing by and they understand since I don't have the liberty to just go out without having to take the baby with. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) My girlfriend is a resident at Lurie downtown averaging 80 hrs a week, meanwhile i work 40 hrs a week in the burbs. The timing can be really tough but I completely understand. Luckily I'm pretty good being happy by myself. I'm taking a two week road trip to the west coast in July by myself. Last year did the same thing to the East coast. Everything in my life feels great, outside of my current job situation. Yeah I'm perfectly fine with my alone time. I have stuff to do to keep myself occupied. It's usually my videogame, go for a bike ride, watch baseball or a tv series or movie time (and even gym time lately haha). It's just disappointing when you do want to go out. And going off what you're saying Sonik, about your trips by yourself, I'm thinking about going to Vegas later in the year for a just a couple days by myself haha Vegas trips are the kinda trips where you get split it from the people you came with for most of the trip anyway (at least my experiences).
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) I want Moncada in CF, but MI's without power don't really play well at other positions unless they are in center. His arm would play, but his place really needs to be up the middle. I'd prefer Maitan because he's a guy that is a few years away and can potentially play SS if TA doesn't pan out, or else potentially move to 3b. I'd like Maitan, but not as the center piece. Way too young and inexperienced to be the center piece in a Q deal.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Yeah, I mean I generally agree with you, but the middle of the infield is the one spot where we really don't have a need. Agreed about them not wanting to move him anyways. Can always convert middle infielders into outfielders since they are athletic enough. And are we all convinced that Moncada will lock down 2B with his defense? Or will he be one of those guys who breaks in as a MI but ends up in the OF?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) The only place that happens is 8 miles north of here. I meant us fans have complained about the product on the field showing that we do care.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Hahn sure knows how to stay popular ... by satisfying the trade-crowd. He has the best job in Chicago. Nobody cares about the crap he and KW have put on the field they only care about future names and future trades. All of the guys are available? Well, out of all of the guys on the MLB club the only players anybody will want are Abreu, Robertson, Q, Avisail Garcia and Anderson and they probably are not trading Avi, Abreu or Anderson. Seriously, where have you been the past 5 years? The fans care about the crap on the field exhibit: 2013-2016 seasons.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) If they're willing to start a package with Acuna, they'd immediately move toward the head of the line. He's tearing up AA as a 19-year-old (.324/.378/.482 at the moment). Who else do the Braves have hitting-wise in their system? I feel like they will have interest but I'm not sure they will end up dealing a package built of mostly hitting. I will accept their interest though.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) The more, the better. Yep.
  9. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Braves interested in Q, Archer per Dave O'Brien And so it begins...
  10. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Sigh. I don't like that response at all. I think it's one thing to entertain offers for some of the young guys behind closed doors, but why would you publicly say the players you just traded for (or drafted) are available for the right offer? I believe it only means guy at the MLB level. I would think that is obvious.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) I'll be interested if any of these contenders try to "beat the rush" and try to acquire a starter in the next week or two rather than waiting around towards the end of July. Would love to be able to read the texts between Cashman and Hahn tonight as Q is pitching... Oh man...we need a typical Q start today.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) Just wait til the kids start coming... Haha one of the weddings I went to last year was for two of my friends who already had 2 kids together.
  13. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Yep, this is right where I am with all my friends getting engaged/married/moving in with their significant others. Meanwhile I was breaking up with my girlfriend of 5 years. I have a new girlfriend, and she's great, but now I'm on the step of finding a new job. I'm looking for something in the Account Executive or Sales role so if anyone knows of or recommends anywhere I'd love to check stuff out. I live right next to the train station in Lisle and am not opposed to finding something downtown. The new girlfriend lives in the Gold Coast so it might help out that as well. The thing for me too is my gf works a lot of weekends, like Fri-Sun sometimes. I work a normal Mon-Fri job. I'm not really feeling that anymore and feel like it's time for us to break up. It's aggravating wanting to do something and all of my friends either have work, lazy from the work week, or spending time with their gfs/wives.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Obviously the higher the pick the better your odds, but it all comes down to scouting and luck. Many times your second or third choice turns out better than your first. That piece a couple of weeks ago about the best player chosen in a particular spot was pretty eye popping. The draft is about 50 years old. Chad Billingsley being the best #24 pick of all time. Doesn't really make the 24th pick seem so valuable. You also give yourself more money to spend in said draft. And it's all about putting yourself in a position to draft the best player that you want. That guy might go top 5 and you want to be there to get him. But like you said, it comes down to scouts.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) All I can say is I agree. The draft is a ridiculous crapshoot. The best way to win is sign guys like Abreu and (hopefully) Robert. I'm in favor of that cause I could give a s*** about how much money Jerry spends since the chairman and his peeps do not care about us spending 9 bucks for a hot dog and whatever it costs to park at a game. Add to signing guys like Robert SMART drafting when your pick comes up as well as FREE AGENCY, you know, signing guys who have already done it and proven they can do it. You can't change people's minds. Draft-niks won't admit it, but they are part of the sports cliche -- you know, the one that always is more interested in future names than current ones. I won't change my opinion; they won't change theirs. So be it. But there are so many busts out there who are deemed "prospects." We better never see you complain about a free agent signing beyond this point. EDIT: I'm sure we can look back at recent signings and trades of prospects and find that you've complained.
  16. It's impossible to grade a rebuild as of right now. So with the talent they've brought in during year 1 of the rebuild, I give it a 10. Bringing in Moncada, Kopech, Robert, Lopez, Giolito, Dunning, Basabe, the 2017 draft picks are great additions to go along with Rodon (who really knows how long for him), Hansen, Collins, and Anderson.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) Bless those who go pay to watch this horrific baseball franchise. Thank God for 2005. *Quoting him from the game thread yesterday* Yeah, it was so much better watching them "go for it" only to still watch horrific baseball. We've all been saying this for about 5 years, hence the new direction.
  18. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) forrestgump775 strikes again /thread
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Just know this...you will soon be at an age where your friends are all getting married and knocking up their wives and raising families...you will hardly ever see them anymore anyways...and you'll end up talking to strangers on sports forums more than your own childhood friends....oh wait...that's me. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) I resemble this. I'm 26 and I'm getting to this point in my life. All my friends in relationships are hardly around anymore. Had some weddings for some friends within 2-4 years older than me last year, which I refer to as "the first wave." My other friends about the same age as me are starting to get engaged so there will be a decent amount of weddings between the next year-4 years I think.
  20. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) I'll only add that Alexei was criminally underrated by Sox fans. We'll be extremely lucky if Anderson is as good. Agreed 100%. If Anderson becomes Alexei, that isn't a bad player.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I don't blame the Nationals, but they are playing with fire. They cannot expect to catch lightning in a bottle and for a struggling K-Rod to be able to lead a world series caliber bullpen. A trade is beyond necessary, and I'd be shocked if they did not make a move by the deadline for impact relief help Not really a matter of "if" but when. They'll make some serious additions in the next month.
  22. Good weekend for the reverse standings. Too bad they didn't lose 1 more against the Padres when we played them.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) I gave it a 6. Last summer's trades: 8.5 Robert Signing: 9.5 2017 Draft: 7 2017 MLB performance of trade assets: 1.5 Accumulates into a solid 6. Frazier, Jones, Putnam, Petricka, Jennings, Gonzalez all being bad or hurt has really put a damper on what could have been really good to solid trade pieces. And that sucks. All we really have to trade is a fairly paid Robertson who may return 1 decent piece, and then we have two 2 diamond in the rough types in Avi and Kahnle - and who knows how much we'll actually be able to get for those 2. Its a damn shame, and why I wan't on the "tank" bandwagon until after the deadline. Avi, Kahnle, and to a lesser extent Abreu, have really been the only bright spots of 2017. I said all off-season the guy was gonna turn into a pumpkin.
  24. Year 1 of rebuild and they've already added a lot of talent. I give it a 10 so far. Of course, we'll see how it pans out in a few years. If you compare it to the Cubs rebuild, going into year 1 of the season, they only had who, Baez and Rizzo (traded for in off-season before year 1; similar to Moncada) in the system at that point? Everyone else came the followings seasons.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 11:51 PM) Tigers lose 1-0 in San Diego. Ausmus got tossed. Something's gotta give. Want them to get hot for the next month.
