QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Sigh. I don't like that response at all. I think it's one thing to entertain offers for some of the young guys behind closed doors, but why would you publicly say the players you just traded for (or drafted) are available for the right offer? I believe it only means guy at the MLB level. I would think that is obvious.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) I'll be interested if any of these contenders try to "beat the rush" and try to acquire a starter in the next week or two rather than waiting around towards the end of July. Would love to be able to read the texts between Cashman and Hahn tonight as Q is pitching... Oh man...we need a typical Q start today.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) Just wait til the kids start coming... Haha one of the weddings I went to last year was for two of my friends who already had 2 kids together.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Yep, this is right where I am with all my friends getting engaged/married/moving in with their significant others. Meanwhile I was breaking up with my girlfriend of 5 years. I have a new girlfriend, and she's great, but now I'm on the step of finding a new job. I'm looking for something in the Account Executive or Sales role so if anyone knows of or recommends anywhere I'd love to check stuff out. I live right next to the train station in Lisle and am not opposed to finding something downtown. The new girlfriend lives in the Gold Coast so it might help out that as well. The thing for me too is my gf works a lot of weekends, like Fri-Sun sometimes. I work a normal Mon-Fri job. I'm not really feeling that anymore and feel like it's time for us to break up. It's aggravating wanting to do something and all of my friends either have work, lazy from the work week, or spending time with their gfs/wives.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Obviously the higher the pick the better your odds, but it all comes down to scouting and luck. Many times your second or third choice turns out better than your first. That piece a couple of weeks ago about the best player chosen in a particular spot was pretty eye popping. The draft is about 50 years old. Chad Billingsley being the best #24 pick of all time. Doesn't really make the 24th pick seem so valuable. You also give yourself more money to spend in said draft. And it's all about putting yourself in a position to draft the best player that you want. That guy might go top 5 and you want to be there to get him. But like you said, it comes down to scouts.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) All I can say is I agree. The draft is a ridiculous crapshoot. The best way to win is sign guys like Abreu and (hopefully) Robert. I'm in favor of that cause I could give a s*** about how much money Jerry spends since the chairman and his peeps do not care about us spending 9 bucks for a hot dog and whatever it costs to park at a game. Add to signing guys like Robert SMART drafting when your pick comes up as well as FREE AGENCY, you know, signing guys who have already done it and proven they can do it. You can't change people's minds. Draft-niks won't admit it, but they are part of the sports cliche -- you know, the one that always is more interested in future names than current ones. I won't change my opinion; they won't change theirs. So be it. But there are so many busts out there who are deemed "prospects." We better never see you complain about a free agent signing beyond this point. EDIT: I'm sure we can look back at recent signings and trades of prospects and find that you've complained.

It's impossible to grade a rebuild as of right now. So with the talent they've brought in during year 1 of the rebuild, I give it a 10. Bringing in Moncada, Kopech, Robert, Lopez, Giolito, Dunning, Basabe, the 2017 draft picks are great additions to go along with Rodon (who really knows how long for him), Hansen, Collins, and Anderson.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) Bless those who go pay to watch this horrific baseball franchise. Thank God for 2005. *Quoting him from the game thread yesterday* Yeah, it was so much better watching them "go for it" only to still watch horrific baseball. We've all been saying this for about 5 years, hence the new direction.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Just know this...you will soon be at an age where your friends are all getting married and knocking up their wives and raising families...you will hardly ever see them anymore anyways...and you'll end up talking to strangers on sports forums more than your own childhood friends....oh wait...that's me. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) I resemble this. I'm 26 and I'm getting to this point in my life. All my friends in relationships are hardly around anymore. Had some weddings for some friends within 2-4 years older than me last year, which I refer to as "the first wave." My other friends about the same age as me are starting to get engaged so there will be a decent amount of weddings between the next year-4 years I think.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) I'll only add that Alexei was criminally underrated by Sox fans. We'll be extremely lucky if Anderson is as good. Agreed 100%. If Anderson becomes Alexei, that isn't a bad player.

Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
Bob Sacamano replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I don't blame the Nationals, but they are playing with fire. They cannot expect to catch lightning in a bottle and for a struggling K-Rod to be able to lead a world series caliber bullpen. A trade is beyond necessary, and I'd be shocked if they did not make a move by the deadline for impact relief help Not really a matter of "if" but when. They'll make some serious additions in the next month. -
Good weekend for the reverse standings. Too bad they didn't lose 1 more against the Padres when we played them.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) I gave it a 6. Last summer's trades: 8.5 Robert Signing: 9.5 2017 Draft: 7 2017 MLB performance of trade assets: 1.5 Accumulates into a solid 6. Frazier, Jones, Putnam, Petricka, Jennings, Gonzalez all being bad or hurt has really put a damper on what could have been really good to solid trade pieces. And that sucks. All we really have to trade is a fairly paid Robertson who may return 1 decent piece, and then we have two 2 diamond in the rough types in Avi and Kahnle - and who knows how much we'll actually be able to get for those 2. Its a damn shame, and why I wan't on the "tank" bandwagon until after the deadline. Avi, Kahnle, and to a lesser extent Abreu, have really been the only bright spots of 2017. I said all off-season the guy was gonna turn into a pumpkin.
-
Year 1 of rebuild and they've already added a lot of talent. I give it a 10 so far. Of course, we'll see how it pans out in a few years. If you compare it to the Cubs rebuild, going into year 1 of the season, they only had who, Baez and Rizzo (traded for in off-season before year 1; similar to Moncada) in the system at that point? Everyone else came the followings seasons.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 11:51 PM) Tigers lose 1-0 in San Diego. Ausmus got tossed. Something's gotta give. Want them to get hot for the next month.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) The fans were cheering like crazy in the ninth wanting to WIN tonight's game. I watched it. I disagree they attended the game tonight as a sign of support for an alleged rebuild. Come on. Gets me every time.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 10:20 PM) My gosh, all the excuses for some players and not others. Not trying to pick on you, but Rodon just didn't care that much probably tonight so he had the bad outing. Geez. p.s. That was a horrible game against a bad team. Sox come home on a warm June evening and get shut out? That sucks. Had the good hitters up in the ninth but they couldn't come through this time. Tough break on the pop up. Woulda been nice to have a pinch runner in there. He might have made it to second. I still don't know how fans pay for this bad baseball. Sox are lucky 25,000 fans came to see that crap. Simple: fans wanted a rebuild, the team listened and started rebuilding, fams showing a sign of appreciation and support. Also was a nice night to do something.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) For the Nats, it's not about pressure to compete, it's about trying to keep your roster from killing one another. I'm not sure how many times this point needs to be made. Christ, I knoooow. I get that. I do. I'm saying the front office hasn't gotten to that point of understanding they need to do something soon due to the fact they have a comfortable lead.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) I don't understand why you keep saying "stat lovers." How do you tell how good a baseball player is? By how well they wear their uniform? lol is he trying to insult people by calling them that? -
Red Sox sign Jhonny Peralta....saw that one coming from a mile away. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/red-...ny-peralta.html

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Robertson and Q are the only White Sox that are rumored to be trade bait who have value. People that have mentioned Melky and Frazier and the like really surprise me, cause they, especially the stat lovers, should know better. No one here has ever said Melky and Frazier will bring back a lot. Not sure where you're reading that says otherwise. -
Mets and Marlins ready to sell. Exactly why the Nats front office has yet to feel the pressure of needing to add bullpen help. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/marl...echavarria.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/mets...m-veterans.html

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) I'm 25 and I gotta agree with you there, we've been lucky to have some greats in front of us pretty much the whole time we've been able to comprehend baseball We mostly had entertaining seasons growing up if you think about. The 2000s they were competitive just about every year.
