QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Don't know if any Sox fan will be able to read that without a smile on their face I will definitely shed some tears tomorrow. I did at PK's final game and the number retiring. Definitely grew up at a prime time to be a fan (I'm 26 and started I guess becoming a fan late 90s).

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 08:21 AM) Just a prediction, but I think this is how it lays out Quintana starts before 7/31: 6-27 vs Yankees 7-2 vs Rangers 7-8 at Rockies 7-18 vs Dodgers 7-24 at Cubs 7-29 vs Indians I think they'll stay away from 7-31 being his start date for obvious reasons, and 7-30 is Hall of Fame day, where I think MLB will tell teams not to take away from that. The Sox have a day game while the speeches are going on. He'll take the ball sooner than the 18th. They're not going to give him 9 days off. Teams always shuffle their rotation at the All Star break. He'll most likely take the ball in that Seattle series (probably that Saturday the 15th). If so, it would line up like this post All-Star break: 7-15 vs Mariners 7-22 at Royals 7-27 vs Cubs His next start would actually be scheduled for 31st if he takes the ball on the 15th against the Mariners (assuming no rainouts or spot starts).

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) He right now is making errors at a record setting rate at SS. His OBP projects to be a disaster during his career. However he has power. Is my projection of .260 (.290 OBP) 17-20 HRs, 70-75 RBIs off base too? I asked if he has any experience at catcher. I think he'd be great there. Many of you are talking outfield. Why isn't that trolling??? It's obvious RIGHT NOW he's a SS for better or worse so why isn't outfield talk trolling? You guys need professional help. Trolling? What an insult. Seriously. I'm a fricking fan against the rebuild, so shoot me. Spell check police are annoying. Switching a guy to OF =/= switching a guy to catcher.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) I would not consider extending him for more than the average MLB salary and I would love it if the Sox traded him next month. Agreed.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) The Cubs also don't need a reliever and aren't selling low on Schwarber. ? That offer looks like it would be selling high. Not that I think that deal would actually happen or anything.

QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) Come on. You think he goes from the brink of being out of MLB to a 140-200 mil deal this fast? That's crazy talk if you ask me. I would consider an extension for Avi, but it caps around 5 years at 50 mil for me. There's way too much risk that he will regress to his old self, and in that case you'd basically be eating 50 mil. And I think he probably would take a 5yr/50 mil deal. It sets him for life. That comes a long way from where he was 3-4 months ago...when some were wondering if he would be playing in Japan soon. I don't see any way he signs for 5/$50 mill. He's close enough to free agency where he would be better off gambling on sustaining this success and becoming a free agent.

QUOTE (pablo @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) Would love to see the Sox get the Dodgers involved somehow in trade discussions. Kahnle for Verdugo would be a great get. I also love Calhoun but the current influx of Burger, Sheets, Skoug means we might have a lot of all hit-no position players. Either way, I'd still target Calhoun. Maybe target Calhoun with the idea of getting him reps in LF immediately in the minors?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) There's a whole joke tangent thread on that on reddit movies. Direct me there! I just started re-watching that show recently. So good.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) I'm hoping for Arrested Development-style narrator voice overs. "I'm going to defeat the Rebellion and take over the galaxy." -Kylo Ren Ron Howard voice over: He didn't.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Garcia just turned 26 years old. If he's not part of the rebuild, then they don't know what they are doing. Like I said, if they can extend him (which I think would be premature to do until mid-next year, this offseason at the earliest). No point of just holding onto him for 2 years.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) Greg, how can you POSSIBLY hold this worldview having JUST witnessed the Cubs and Astros turn from total embarrassments into powerhouses by following this exact process? I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but do you literally only pay attention to the White Sox and Royals? I get that it isn't guaranteed success, but man this organization needed to try to do something different.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) None of the rebuild talk makes sense so if you want to stay on the board you have to endure. Personally I think rebuilding is a great crutch for the front office. No matter how bad things get the employees can just tell the owner and fans, "We're in a rebuild. It will all pay off someday." Man, the Sixers did the world a disservice by making tanking and rebuilding a sports term. It used to be if you were quietly rebuilding (Pirates, Royals, etc) you were derided and mocked and chastised and probably had to go through 2-3 general managers and managers before the alleged rebuilding finally paid off with a division title. At least you got properly mocked publicly for having to rebuild in the first place. Now it's cool for the advanced statniks to rebuild ... even though we have a thread on here wanting to trade Avi and a thread on here bemoaning how our ss of the future looks average at best. Rebuilding ... thanks Sixers for making it cool. NOT. None of the rebuild talk makes sense? You seriously don't get why this team is rebuilding? Were you under a rock the past 5 seasons? lmao

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) Well it's a good thing nobody traded for him last off-season. Would have been better off drafting Conforto as an advanced college bat in that draft. Both reached the majors around the same time, only Conforto can actually play the OF as well.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) I don't think they were planning on it either...but with the play they have gotten out of their young guys--and their OFers in particular--you can't help but to notice that they aren't too far away from being legitimate title contenders. They know the post season is all about rolling and riding your top 3 starting pitchers--as of now I think they are wondering just how far Tanaka and Pineda can take them. It's tough to count on a rookie like Severino to perform consistently through a title run--but they might have to. So much can change, but they would likely face a Cleveland or Houston first and those 2 teams have the best chance of containing their big offense. They need more than Tanaka and Pineda and they know that! My prediction: Yankees will make a deal for a top 3 SP--and it will come before their potential post-season opponent--the Astros--can make that same acquisition. Once that happens...Houston will follow suit with an add of their own. Neither team will gut their system--but both will likely overpay. Boys will be boys. Probably worth mentioning their recent skid as well. We'll see how they are looking closer to the deadline. They weren't expected to be good and it's possible they actually aren't. In first place currently but who knows, another team can take off.

Finally realized Jon Jay needs to be in the lineup hitting leadoff every day , eh? On a side-note, fixes my roster crunch in fantasy with Wilson Ramos coming off the dl soon.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) So the Han Solo movie should be pretty boring. Ron Howard now directing. There's like 3 weeks left of filming. Hopefully he doesn't need to do too much.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Everything I've heard from Cashman suggests he is NOT going to gut the minors. Doesn't mean he won't make a trade, but he isn't going to turn around and give back everything he stole over the past couple years. Exactly. I don't think they were planning on being good this year. I can see them dealing some prospect depth for a rental type without touching the big prospects and just rolling with that and seeing how it pans out.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) You guys are nuts if you think I'm going to go through my contender scenario again. I'm not trying to get banned. Your scenario where you, again, mention no names on who we should have signed/traded for? I renember you saying the Sox should have added a pitcher, DH, catcher and OF but never mentioned who or how. -
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 07:20 AM) What's the obsession with people wanting to trade the team's best players? Anytime a player has success, there seems to be a thread about what the Sox could get for him from another team. How about this, keep your good players and build a winning team with them. *if you can extend them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 10:00 PM) Not ignoring your question, but I feel like nobody wants to hear me give my case for contending again. Every time I bring up the question "who would you have signed?" you always ignore it -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) I just wonder why I can't belabor the point and have to endure sentences like he wrote that offer nothing but saying how happy he is we are losing. Seems unfair I can't respond in anger. I'm like El Rockin a big Sox fan who despises losing especially against these prick teams from our own division. Twinks and Royals bother me but I hate the Indians as well. He said "good loss." He didn't say he was happy. It's a rationalized positive spin on it. Since you seem to know we could have won the division this season without trading guys, who should the Sox have added? Who should the Sox have replaced Avi with (as they would have if they were going for it this year)? -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 09:31 PM) shouldn't this be considered trolling? I could go into an angry diatribe at this but I'd be the one banned. Don't need to keep arguing this every other day. We know your stance. Let people watch and rationalize losses how they want. -

How is this only bottom 4th right now? -
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) The more time he spend in AAA, the worse Swihart's hitting gets. maybe a change of scenery can get him turned around. I doubt Red Sox will want Frazier. As I posted previously, they have a band-aid for now, Brock Holt is heading for rehab in AAA and Devers may be 6-8 weeks away. With the way Pedroia's been going on dl and getting dinged up consistently this season, they may need Holt at second base more often.

Is this off-season the time to add a cheap 1b?
