  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) To each their own. I will never enjoy the White Sox losing. I don't think it's really about getting enjoyment out of their losses. Just accepting that it may be better in the long run. Fortunately for us, this is year 1 of a rebuild and whether we want them or not, the losses will pile up regardless.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) 1. Philly (-14) 2. SD 0.5 GB 3. SF 1.0 GB 4. Miami 3 GB 5. Atlanta 3 GB 6. NYM 3.5 GB CHW 3.5 GB OAK 3.5 GB PITT 3.5 GB 10. KCR 4.0 GB 11. STL 4.5 GB TEX 4.5 GB This isn't technically a tie. We are above NYM and PIT. It goes by last year's draft order when there is a tie in standings. We are currently 7th. On a side-note, wow that NL East is dog sh!t.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) He hasn't played in a year. His first couple of games, I think there will be overreaction either way. Of course there will be.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) Centerfield "When" not "where."
  5. I'm back on the Beer train. It looks like he finished strong since I last checked a few months ago when I was down on him. 16 HR, 64 BB (21.4% rate), 35 ks (11.7% rate), .298 AVG, .478 OBP, .606 SLG. If a team believes he can stick anywhere on the field (whether it be LF or 1B), he could legit middle of the order bat for a while.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 06:49 AM) This really news? Figured everyone knew he was a cheater when he had two kids with two different woman less than a year apart. Oh, I guess the domestic violence is new though. Cubs fans will surely come to his support like they did with previous heros Aroldis Chapman & Starlin Castro. Can confirm. My boss at my last company I worked for lives (maybe he moved out since?) in the same building as him and like 6 other Cubs players (it's a block from the stadium so it makes sense for some of the younger guys). And I feel like adultery/cheating seems pretty obvious when players (any sports) are on the road anywhere from 7-10 months of the year. Isn't that one of the reasons Josh Fields wanted to retire after like his first year with us? Considering he had only played with the Sox at that point, obviously some players were banging women that were not their wives.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) What city? ...Tampa?
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 03:39 AM) What's up with you and your Rodon hate? ? He didn't appear to throw any shade at Rodon in that post.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) With his agent it is almost 100% guaranteed that he'll be hitting the open market and asking for a lot...probably much more than the Sox are going to be willing to pay (unless by that time they are under new ownership.) Taking all that into account you move him if there is a very good offer on the table. The issue is that I don't think Rodon has ever been healthy and contributed for a full season in his short career. That certainly could limit trade opportunities...at least getting something making a deal worthwhile in my opinion. Yeah, you probably have to wait until at least 2018/2019 off-season to even consider it.
  10. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:21 AM) I'm not writing Quintana off after a very bad 2 months, but he needs an equally strong 2 months to re-emerge as the top pitcher on the market come July else there's no sense in moving him until he has rebounded. Question on Rodon for the larger group. If he comes back to pitch this season (and he is on track too by all reports) and show his top of the rotation type stuff consistently, do the White Sox trade him in the off-season? He's a Boras agent and the clock is ticking. If the White Sox are good in 2-3 years from now, isn't he a free agent after another year or two beyond that? Does it make sense to keep a guy around who has little chance on being here beyond his rookie/arbitration years? I would definitely listen on Rodon. Trade him for the right offer. He might only be here for 1 or 2 years of the Sox being good and that's if everything goes right.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) I'm sick of the bunts. As far as the bullpen usage goes WTF is he supposed to even do when your starters are this bad and/or can't go more than 80 pitches? The injuries to the rotation have finally caught up to the Sox the past two weeks and it's showing in the strain on the pen. I really, really, really want to see Shields, Lopez and Rodon in this rotation by July. Start building some trade value for Shields and start building for the future with Rodon and Lopez. Same. We need a biter(s) on Gonzalez or Holland first though.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Obviously the Cubs didn't get rid of him because he likes to bunt. They even said he was coming back until Maddon became available. He is in love with the bunt for this particular team. He brought in a pitching machine to practice bunting against some velocity last week. But that's this team. If the line up ever gets stacked, I doubt he bunts as much. Agreed 100%. This isn't like a 90s/early 2000s team we're talking about.
  13. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) In fairness, most of this depends on what happens on the field. A well done call gets remembered regardless of who made it in particularly momentous events. I think Benetti will grow into the role just fine. This. We'll see how Benetti is when there is actually a really good competitive team out there making deep memorable runs (no I'm not talking about a 23-10 start).
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) There has been talk now Harper might get $500 million. With all their young guys going to get really expensive at the same time, and tax penalties, keeping that team intact and signing Harper isn't going to happen. No team has that kind of money. Agreed. He wants a huge deal and Bryant, 3 years later, will look to top that. Plus, they will still have Heyward on the books and likely a pitcher that they will overspend on. Plus, all their current players will be in arbitration and Rizzo will be a free agent at some point in that time. Could see them signing Harper and then letting Bryant walk a few years later. I guess they could attempt to retain everyone but that would also require paying the luxury tax.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) Right. It was a win-now pick. Collins was the #1 pick for the future, and Burdi was the bonus pick they talked themselves into thinking he could help in the stretch drive, a la Finnegan for the Royals. Burdi may still be a good piece to the rebuild, but you never know with power arms. Good point. Don't think they would have taken him if they were committed to rebuilding at that time.
  16. This is brutal how long this game is. I went to the Sale game this week and hated how slow it was. Only went because I thought it would be a quick game. Wanted to leave early at like 9:30 due to it being a work night and a bad game.
  17. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) We're hearing f bombs from the plate after every strikeout. This is funny. Reminds me of my Sunday league team.
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) Woe is Kris Bryant. He plays in the world in which he lives. Rules are rules. He's going to get so much money it won't matter. It would be completely out of left field if Bryant suddenly wouldn't sign with the Cubs. The Cubs can absolutely afford it, but there's really no way to tell what they'll do when it comes to that kind of money. Also, it will be interesting to see what value teams put in clubhouse chemistry. I'm not sure the Rizzo led Cubs would be a good fit for Bryce Harper's personality. I think they could afford Harper. I don't think they can afford both Harper and Bryant's new deal unless Heyward opts out which seems unlikely.
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 09:49 PM) There is if you're the player. Sucks for the player but my point is: Cubs followed the rules.
  20. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) True, but I guess I don't understand how say the Angels drafting at 10 would say "The ChiSox are taking Kendall at 11! No way! We are gonna take him first even though we were planning on taking Beck instead of him, but since the Sox want Kendall, we will take him to spite them." Or something like that. Yeah this. They could just take him if they want him.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) I'm not sure I get this, surely that team couldn't believe he'll fall to second. Agreed. Its not like hes borderline 1st/nd round. That idea makes no sense.
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) They cost him a year of service time and earnings in his prime years for no reason other than they becasue they could And there's nothing wrong with that.
