May 21st Game Thread: White Sox @Seattle Mariners

QUOTE (flavum @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) If Sale and Eaton stayed and the Sox stayed in go-for-it mode, Avisail would probably be in a different uniform right now. This^ he woulda been replaced by anyone. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Yes but you sighed at the Trout comparison. It's easy to see the value in other team's players but as I said Sale is the pitching version of Trout. A true phenom. But in the same scenario would we have traded Trout? The answer is "yes" if you are going by the same philosophy of rebuild that the Sox are apparently embracing. You know guys like me wanted to keep Sale and buy free agents and make the usual tinkering trades to fill holes. We'd have had Sale and Q starting in a year Avi is breaking loose to go with stars in Abreu and Anderson (I didn't mean Frazier for gosh sakes) and a bullpen that until recently seemed decent. Could we have won a s***ty Central Division? Hmmm..... Some of us wanted to try things with a manager who had a clue, somebody besides Robin (great player; bad manager). Been there, done that unsuccessfully too many times. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Why the sigh? I see it as the same scenario. Trading Chris Sale was the right thing for this team. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) Then I guess most would have wanted to trade Trout in that scenario, cause Sale is the pitching version of Trout and the majority did handstands of joy after shipping him. Sigh -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Depends on the service time/Super Two dates... I don't think the super 2 stuff matters as much as people think.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) I'm not choosing not to understand. In my mind (and I assure you other fans), sure the No. 7 pick was great and the No. 8 pick sucked eggs. But rather than deduce, by gosh I wish we lost 5 more games to get the 7 pick, my brain suggests there are TONS of great players available at 8 and the regime FAILED by taking a Fulmer in that slot. I do have no interest in the draft. As a fan yes I have interest when a Sox draftee ultimately makes the bigs and succeeds. Does not following his progression make me a bad fan? Maybe, but I don't think so. The team that takes the field in Chicago is the one that matters to me. How they get there can be compelling for some, but not me. Give me victories and I'll attend the parade. I'm truly sorry if my position angers/annoys many but the active rooting for losses angers/offends me as well. My bad. We better not see any posts from you in any draft threads this year or next since you are so uninterested in drafts. -

QUOTE (flavum @ May 21, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) The Sox are in rebuild mode. Picks aren't guarantees, but sometimes the difference in the 6th pick and 7th pick is huge. Enjoy the games any way you want. I'm enjoying both- when Avi has a big game or Davidson hits a homer, great. When they lose, good...that's what this year is about. This time a million. -
Sign Avi to a long term contract?
Bob Sacamano replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SouthSide2004 @ May 21, 2017 -> 06:58 AM) I'm still not buying in terms of an extension. I really need to see what the new Avi accomplishes over a full season before I decide if he's a long-term piece. With two more years of control, this is something we can tackle in the offseason. Regardless, it's great news that a soon to be 26 year old has potentially become a core piece. This rebuild is in much better shape if Avi can anchor the middle of the lineup for the next five or six years. Agreed. -
Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As

QUOTE (spiderman @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:59 PM) I'm no expert, but given his contract, and his up/down performance, is Robertson really going to get the White Sox more than salary relief and maybe a mid level prospect? I don't doubt a team like Washington will trade for him, somebody will, but isn't he under contract for $10M this year this year and next season (obviously this season is probably down to $5M or so by the time July comes).....Is the contract not a big deal anymore given other contracts? I don't think he brings back anything huge personally (I mean top 100 prospect). The Yankees did well in those trades last year since they dealt with teams with great systems. After the Miller trade, Indians still had 5 guys in top 100 and we already know about all the youth on the Cubs. Robles is likely more important to the Nats than say Torres was for the Cubs. -
QUOTE (SouthSide2004 @ May 20, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) With how well Judge has played this year, Ellsbury going nowhere anytime soon, Harper eventually a strong possibility, and a rising Dustin Fowler at AAA, I really think Clint Frazier & Blake Rutherford could be readily available in a Quintana deal. Throw in a young arm and that's a very attractive package IMO and one the Yankees might actually agreento. It should be obvious to everyone they need to add a couple veteran arms to the top of their rotation if they ever want to be serious contenders. Yeah I would almost guarantee Yankees sign one of Harper/Machado that off season. Of course, maybe they can pull off Harper and Donaldson.

Sox Trade for 2 Bonus Slots from Baltimore

QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 20, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) We will still probably sign some long shot international prospects, but Robert is worth going into the penalty box for Plenty of decent prospects will likely sign for $300k due to the new cap. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 20, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Meh, $750k it's 750k Wish it were for next period For next period? They can't do anything with that lol -
QUOTE (Tony @ May 20, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) @CSNHayes 10s Believe #WhiteSox were outbid. Also heard they wowed Luis Robert w/ video presentation from Renteria/Moncada/Abreu. bit.ly/2pWFhDj Wow If it's true they were even outbid.
-
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) But they got Moncada into their system without paying substantial any salary. That's a pretty big discount. Moncada's salary is minimal.
-
Sale deal has nothing to do with this deal. Sox weren't sent money. The tax and bonus owed to Moncada was on Red Sox. White Sox wouldn't have to pay remainder of bonus anyway. That's not really agreed to. That's Red Sox obligation.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Yea... the Red Sox paid all of the luxury tax and all of Moncadas 31.5m contract and took on all of Sale's money. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/red-...chris-sale.html So like $10 mill like I said
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) They sent 31.5 million to us in the Sale deal. That doesn't seem right. They're just the remainder of the tax/bonus (something like ten mill) is what I thought.

QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ May 20, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Can someone provide a link to his instagram account? Do the Cardinals have a history of bringing in Cuban ballplayers like the Sox do? Every team at this point does.
-
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 20, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) If his connection with Ynoa swayed him toward the Sox, I will personally write Jeff Samardzija a thank you note for bringing us Robert. The only way you could prove it is if he takes less money and cites the player (Ynoa/Garcia) as a factor in his decision.
-
Cardinals also signed one of his really good friends a few months ago I believe.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) It is worth pointing out that if we win bidding for Robert, players like Tatis Jr and Micker Adolfo are the exact players that we aren't going to be able to sign for the next two years. I know people are saying that it is only money at this stage, but if guys like Micker and Tatis end up becoming starting to star level players in MLB (small odds I know) is it worth knowing that the Sox COULD have signed the next Tatis and Adolfo's in this deal as well. How much does that change the perception of a Robert deal, especially if he ends up closer to Alexei or Dayan, than he does Abreu? Tatis and Micker were two highly touted international guys. A lot of the higher end guys seem to have deals in place next signing period.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Butler threw 92 pitches in 3+ innings. Five walks but still an ERA of 2.00, yeah yeah SSS. Wow. Montgomery already on in the 4th. ? You quote that a starter is at 92 pitches in the 4th inning but shocked he is taken out? haha

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) God damn I had a f***ing blast last night even though the Sox lost. Amazing seats, probably the best I've ever had, beating the 3rd row behind Sox dugout last year at Safeco. These were right behind home row 9, season ticket holder since 1977 hooked my buddy up, just paid for beer. The Davidson HR looked like a towering pop fly that somehow carried out. A lot of loud outs last night, Melky especially was a victim of some bad luck. Looked like the ump realized he had a couple AAAA guys on the hill and expanded the strikezone for both guys. Was it that way on pitch trax? Weather tonight and tmr should be just about perfect, it's warming up into the 70s with sun. That's awesome but doesn't seem to matter when they have retractable roof haha dammit I wish our stadium was built with one. -
QUOTE (Scoots @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Weird...you'd think the reigning AL champs would draw a nice crowd. I think the Sox drew an average of 36,000 something in 2006. Have something to do with another Cleveland team going far into the playoffs and possibly weather?
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 19, 2017 -> 01:03 AM) Practice what you preach. This is professional baseball played with integrity and respect for the game What do you mean? Its not like the managers and players ars trying to lose. The players out there want to succeed.
