QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 3, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) I don't see many TOR starters being available at the deadline at will be under lengthy team control. Rental players do not come cheap either, and a team may have an easier time justifying a longer term piece like Quintana over an expensive three month rental They don't really have to be considered "top of rotation arms." Guys could be having good years or career years on the final year of a deal and be dealt at a cheaper cost than Q that a team may be willing to pay.

http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...start-white-sox He asked for his release because he didn't want to play anymore. Sox signed him 7 months later.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 3, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) probably had to be added to the 40 man after 5 years service in order to protect him? They wouldn't release a player for that though. You would just leave him off the 40 in hopes no one takes him in Rule 5 draft or whenever. Didn't he have off the field issues?

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 3, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) They do...just DFA TrAsche. Even if they do that, Davidson should get the at bats. Once there is an injury or they trade Melky or Frazier, they'll have room for every day at bats for both.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) But seriously, I was just angry in the heat of the moment. Thankfully Q has made me eat some crow by dominating in his last few starts. Great moment in the Office. Seriously though. I'm bored at work which is what has lead me to doing Beat the Streak on mlb.com again and starting Streak for the Cash on ESPN lol

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) No I didn't. I was just pissed that he was pitching like trash that particular game. Here's what you said: QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ April 15, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) This is awful. Hahn f***ed up big time. And also: QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ April 15, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make, as thus far, Q's value has gone nowhere but down to start the season and it appears as if Hahn made the wrong decision to not trade him in the offseason. Yes, I am extremely bored at work lol

QUOTE (shipps @ May 3, 2017 -> 08:44 AM) I was told oon here maybe 2 weeks ago that it wasnt mathematically likely for him to turn it around and have a respectable ERA this season. :o It's ok. The guy you're replying back to acted like the sky was falling during that Twins game where Q got hammered.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) What's funny is that we have: Robertson Jones Swarzak Jennings Kahnle Ynoa Putnam Petricka Which, when healthy, is already far too many relievers. This would make it tough for Covey to get any opportunities. That's what I've been getting at in my posts ha granted, they could just stream pitchers along with the 10-day dl. Seems the Dodgers have been doing that. "Uhhh yeah... Ynoa has arm tightness...better put him on the 10-day dl." -
QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 2, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) Hey fellas, asked Bilek for permission to post the show on here today. We had Brian Anderson on our podcast last night and the reception was great, Brian had a lot of great stories from his first call up in 2005, the brawl vs. the Cubs in 2006 (where he beat John Mabry's ass), the blackout game, and Bobby Jenks putting back 50 beers on cross country flights Wade Boggs style and yes, Juan Uribe's legendary wang. Thought I'd share it here for those who may be interested It was a lot different than the Hahn interview from a few weeks back, this was completely unfiltered off the cuff. Even I thought we shoulda cut some of it out because I wasn't sure if some of the stories were meant for public consumption but Brian didn't want us to, so we rolled with it. For anyone who listens, PLEASE hammer us with any and all comments and criticisms. We're really trying to make this thing big (and it's grown ten fold since we first started) and since we are so new and raw at this we gotta hear and absorb any and all critiques of us. Let us know what you think, thanks!!!! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/red-lin...1210156055?mt=2 PS - shout out to Bilek for the assist in putting me in contact with BA, always comes through in the clutch for me I saw you tweet that he rejected a date from Jessica Biel? This enrages me so much lol

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 3, 2017 -> 07:44 AM) As I said before, there was no way a lat strain was just going to be a 10 day DL, especially with how conservative the medical team is being with everyone this year. I feel like they might as well move him to the 60-day dl. I mean, they could if they wanted to add someone to the 40 eventually.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ May 3, 2017 -> 07:42 AM) Looking back at Dunns time with the White Sox has never been explained. Was he hurt? Did he lose his desire to play after signing a big long term contract? Didn't he like playing for the White Sox? Dunn was the first big free agent signing since Albert Belle. He didn't produce here. Nobody has ever figured it out. Take away his 2011 stats and he was actually good for the Sox.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 2, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) Gonzalez for one of their SS prospects and a lottery ticket arm. Sign me up.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 2, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Shields would be ideal if he was healthy; but, I'm not sure if the Mets want to take on that much salary. I would hope the Sox would be willing to eat some of the $20 mill owed to him over next 2 years to get the best possible deal.

I doubt they'd be looking to deal for Q (don't have enough) but I could see interest in the guys I listed above (ok maybe not Shields).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) The Mets are the perfect counterexample to why being super-cautious with pitchers is a good idea, and why throwing at 100% for every pitch might not be the best idea. Kopech, take note.

Source: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/mets...ard-injury.html Come on down and shop on the South Side! We've got a Holland, and a Gonzalez, James Shields who can be had.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) In almost 300 MLB PA now, Schwarber has a 29% K rate, including 30% so far this year. He has a career BABIP of .284 and will rely almost entirely on power and patience in order to delivery value as a MLB player: his defense and baserunning are well below average. His 2015 was a fluke, with a whopping 24% of his FB leaving the park. Now that that's down to a more reasonable 12% he's struggling to generate enough power to offset his low BA. The patience is there, both in the walk rate and the outside zone chase % but right now he's hitting like the bad version of Adam Dunn. I don't see the upside really with him. I think at best he's a 250/350/500 guy that gives you nothing outside of his bat. That's a 3-4 WAR player but it's hardly a superstar. I have had him pegged for getting dealt to an AL team eventually.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) It does as far as it is a free audition. If it is someone you think that could help you down the road, you eat his crap starts this season in a year that doesn't matter if he sucks or not if you think he can help in 2018/19/20 etc. Yeah I get that but there may not even be room for him to stay up in the majors. If they really like him, they could always trade for him. Send over cash or PTBNL or something. Like I said, I think he will stay up as a long-reliever with a 3-man bench. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) He's averaging 5 innings per start so he's not exactly eating innings. At this pace he'll need 30 starts just to crack 150 IP. I'm with Feeky on this one I don't know why they took him in the Rule 5 as he has little upside for Cooper to work with. The clay just isn't there. Maybe you move him to the pen he gains a couple ticks of velocity but he's still got mediocre off speed offerings and is still right handed. Personally as soon as one of Fulmer/Lopez/Rodon/Shields is back or MLB ready I'd just offer him back and if they don't want him put him in the pen and send Beck down. I wanted Jake Cave in the Rule 5 draft but it looks like he's only played 3 games this year. Does anyone know if he was hurt? -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 2, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) I am aware of his status, but the dude isn't very good. I'd be surprised if he lasted all year. Rule 5 pick or not. Yeah the fact he is a rule 5 pick should have no bearing. I could see him staying on as a long-reliever though. They can cut someone like Asche and go with a 3-man bench. -
