  1. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 12, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) This is totally random, and apropos of nothing, but is there any advanced stat that accounts for SBs when looking at a player's OPS? The way I'm thinking about it, if a player gets a single and then steals a base, that could be looked at as a double. Therefore, someone like Billy Hamilton, who is 19 for 21 in SB attempts, adds a net value of +17 once on base. So, while his normal OPS is a mediocre .671, his SB-adjusted OPS (SB differential + TBs / ABs) is a pretty solid .793. What do ya'll think? That is interesting to think about. SBOPS?
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 11, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) I think the Mets are throwing in the towel this season. If Addison Reed does well as replacement closer, I bet the Sox could get him for a fringe prospect. Maybe the Mets would take Matt Davidson? Thought this was serious until the bolded lol
  3. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 11, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) It really takes a lot for me to hate any movie but GOTG 2 did the trick. It felt like a series of sketches and bits. There were a lot of jokes and while that isn't a bad thing but a lot of them fell flat for me. And there were so many jokes that they got annoying after the first half hour of the movie. Before you could comprehend a joke, a new one would be introduced immediately. And some of the gags went overboard like when Rocket was bouncing the Ravengers. I like Kurt Russell and his character seemed interesting but he was only used to deliver exposition. And when it was revealed that he was the villain it felt so unearned not just because his character was so one note but because his villainy was never hinted at and built towards. I know there was a scene of Mantis trying to warn Drax and the scene where Nebula and Gamora find the cavern with the skeletons but nothing came from Ego himself. In The Dark Knight, although everyone knows that Harvey Dent will eventually become Two-Face but it felt earned because the movie set up his character and showed how conflicted he is and showed how he's willing to blur the line between lawful and unlawful to get things done. When Ego reveals himself as the bad guy, it was like it came out of nowhere, like he decided on a whim..."I'm bad now". And the scene where they play catch? That was one of the stupidest things that I've ever seen. I cringed the whole time. The music itself was great but it felt a little unnatural compared to the first film, like they were forcing it. The action stuff was good, along with the cinematography, colors and costumes. Overall the film felt plotless. The second act was terrible as it did drag and there was little tension and conflict throughout the whole movie. I'm glad that people like it and really enjoyed themselves but I thought it was bad, which is a shame because I love the first one and James Gunn's other movies I do kind of agree. The Ego stuff was uninteresting. The best parts were with the ravagers. And to your point in the bolded, it comes off that way because he believed what he was doing was right. He didn't really come off as an antagonist until it was revealed what he wanted to do and Peter disagreed with him.
  4. Anyone try adding external hard drive to their ps4 yet?
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) The Cubs are definitely going to have to make a big trade for pitching at some point. Not to mention Contreras has been disappointing, Heyward slumped after the hot start...and their pitching looks like what we speculated Houston would have pre-season. Eventually, Zobrist will hit a wall with his age, too. Have you seen his numbers? He basically has.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Do the reporters even ask Hahn about Tilson, or have they also forgotten he is a White Sox? Not gonna lie, I always forget he exists.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) The 10 day DL makes it so much easier to manage a roster. Agreed. In my fantasy league, I'm kind of kicking myself for not making our league with 5 DL spots instead of 3 since MLB teams will put guys on the 10-day dl more.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) Davidson has already started his slide back to normalcy going 2 of his last 26, 8K, 4BB Even better: keep Abreu at 1B, move Melky to DH (if not traded), and play W. Garcia in LF.
  9. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 10, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) The thing with Todd is 1. Had has people behind him who can take over. Jose, while nothing special when you account for his defense, has nobody knocking on his door. 2. Todd doesn't have the weird cult following that Jose does. jose could bat .200 for the season and youd have people here defending how great he is. Literally the same guys you mention for Frazier, Jose is playing a spot they can play. If they trade Todd and dfa Asche, you can slide Jose into the DH spot and play Delmonico and Davidson at either corner.
  10. Yeah this thread is pointless. What do Gonzalez and Gordon have to do with Quintana not being traded? Lol
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) If I come to a game or two this summer, what's my best bet for great great seats at a low price? I need the Southside ballpark experience again. Come on a week night, pay $7 and likely sit behind one of the dugouts lol
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 9, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Yeah but it would've been much less stressful for the Cubs if the Indians didn't have Miller as a multi-inning weapon. Actually, maybe it was Schwarber they wanted for Chapman at first. I can't remember exactly. Just getting Schwarber for Miller wouldn't make much sense.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 9, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) It would've been a better deal no matter what for the Cubs because: 1. Schwarber is a DH that isn't even that good 2. The Indians wouldn't have had Miller in the World Series 3. Miller wasn't a rental 4. They'd still have Torres But Miller didn't stop them from winning the World Series.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 9, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Schwarber for Miller would have been a much better deal than the one they made. We can't really say that yet without seeing careers play out though. Schwarber could have been good get for the Yankees too seeing as though could DH with the short porch in RF and see time at 1B and little in LF.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Kyle Schwarber may be the most hyped career .226 hitter with less than 2 career WAR in MLB history. You would think the HOF for him is just a formality. His career fWAR is exactly the same as Tyler Saladino's. Didn't the Yankees want him straight up for Andrew Miller last year? If they did that deal, they'd still have Torres in the system. Though I do think Schwarber will turn it around at the plate a bit.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) This isn't the NFL or NBA. The guys the Sox get in the draft might not be able to help them for 4 or 5 years. Why is there such a rush to see what the young guys can do? I thought rebuilding was all about patience and development. Let them stay down and dominate for a while if they are ready. Calling them up too soon is something the White Sox have been rightly criticized for doing by a lot of people, including most of this board. I would love to see Yoan Moncada play every day. But I would rather see him play everyday for years instead of watching him struggle and go back down to AAA. Look at how many ABs these guys have above A ball, but call em up at the first sign of being hot. That hasn't worked. Let them spend the season in AAA. Call them up in September. It isn't like you have to get them some experience so next year they are ready to win a title. What does calling these guys up before the end of their season accomplish long term? It is, but many here don't have it, yet wanted a rebuild.
  17. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ May 9, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) 2-3 months of reverting his mechanics from his crappy altered mechanics, regaining his velocity, working on his command = Erik Johnson 2.0? Give the guy a couple months, hell the whole year. What's the rush? Of course we all want results and he's been a peg above atrocious but there are some decent signs and if he gets his command working people will forget his struggles. Right!? Dude is 22! It would be a different story if he was 26/27.
  18. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ May 8, 2017 -> 07:51 PM) With the amateur draft on June 12th, June 13th would be a good time to start crafting the next phase of the rebuilding White Sox. Some of our young players in the minors can certainly keep getting experience until then, and we will have more clarity about how the draft went in terms of hitters versus pitchers balance. I'm sure the White Sox are expecting the draft to yield a nice balance between the two, but it could turn out to be a draft where the best available players leaned more to one side than the other. One way or the other, I'd like to see 2-3 veteran players traded by mid-June with the idea of getting some young players a chance to play more regularly on the big league club. They'd love to trade anyone they can ASAP but it's not that easy. No one is looking to trade now and some guys we have to deal are not doing well/have no market.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Does anyone else have a Roku tv? Got a Roku TV and have been watching Amazon shows through our Prime Account and thinking about getting Netflix. What irritates me the most is that CBS/Paramount/Nick/HGtv/Food on Roku is restricted from being viewed by XFinity customers. Step 1: buy an Amazon Firestick ($40). Step 2: download the apps Kodi and Exodus on said firestick. Step 3: now you can watch every show and movie ever.
  20. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 8, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) You cross the two. The fact is, if he were hitting, he'd make sense as a leadoff man with his OBP so much higher than his batting average. That being said, if he's hitting, you want him in a position to drive in runs and the leadoff spot isn't it. This is one of those Maddonisms that just isn't working. Yeah I think they should probably play the hot hand and go with Jon Jay (.437 obp) at leadoff spot.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) lol, neither of them is getting DFA'd. That would be a complete waste of an asset. Yeah someone like Asche would likely get cut I think. They'd likely want to hold onto both Saladino and Sanchez.
  22. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ May 8, 2017 -> 12:39 AM) Let's be real - guys like Danish aren't going to get a look at starting once Fulmer, Giolito, Lopez, and Kopech are up by next year. Could easily see all 4 in our rotation by early next season. Might as well see what we have now. Well Kopech isn't going to be up next season (maybe September) so there's that. I do expect Rodon, Fulmer, Lopez, Giolito (hopefully) and Shields to be in the roster, barring a Shields trade. So there should be opportunity for Danish to get starts as the Sox usually are careful about watching guys' innings and skipping and giving more rest. Could even go 6-man rotation.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 8, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) Apparently the rumor is the Nationals are sending their top scout to the Sox-Twins series this weekend to evaluate Robertson. To me that's a big deal if true. Get him in all 3 games. Edit: if true.
  24. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ May 7, 2017 -> 07:57 PM) I thought this thread would be blowing up today with the Bruce Levine report that a trade is likely with Nationals? Thoughts? Sounds like his own opinion (a popular one). Means nothing.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 8, 2017 -> 08:21 AM) Holy s***, I just saw Schwarber is batting .198. And Maddon is still leading him off? For a leadoff hitter, you look at OBP which is still low at .321.
