QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Seems like pretty high returns for Melky to me. Yeah I don't think they will get a significant piece back but to say he has no value seems odd.
-
No rumor or anything but just a solid read I came across. May piss off some people on this site (well, just Greg). https://theloopsports.com/2017/07/05/melky-...ed-trade-piece/

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Does that writer think Quintana will come free? Brewers can pull off a deal for Q without gutting their farm/youth. They can trade a few of their top guys and still look great long-term.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) Hope you're right, I'd be ecstatic with Soto and Kieboom and a flier, maybe even more so than Robles I think the NYY is less likely than the BOS deal but both are iffy, I'd love that kid Fowler (even being severely hurt) and Tate has been sharp pitching low levels, not rated very high due to age likely BOS I'd like to get at least one Top 100ish prospect from, Groome is filthy but has off field issues that may point BOS to dealing him, Chavis is a pretty good prospect as well... I'd like Chavis and a flier or two I'd like to as well but really can't see it. If any team offers a top 100 prospect for Frazier, pull the trigger immediately.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) NY and Boston would not make those deals either My first thought when I read that post.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) I doubt they are willing to move Brinson considering his high upside, and I'm not that high on Corey Ray or Hader. A Brinson + Ortiz + 1 or two lower level prospects would be a solid haul What about a left-handed hitting Phillips? Braun is there through 2020 and Domingo Santana is going to hold down a spot. Plus, if they deal for Q and then next year guys on the team regress and they look to be an under .500 team, they have pieces to deal at the deadline, including Q, Braun, Thames etc. It's basically the Pirates scenario we all discussed in the off-season.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) I have my doubts the Brewers make the splash for a big time starter like Gray or Quintana. They have built up a solid farm system and I can't imagine a small market club blowing that up at this point. Unless they view this as their chance to sneak past the Cubs and win the central division? I'd likely have to either insist on Brinson headlining the deal, or would need 3-4 very good prospects back. I think they can make a trade without making a huge dent. Aren't they a top 5 farm system? Especially if a trade involved an OF as the center piece (Brinson or Phillips; both having great years). They seem to be set in the OF for a while.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Oh my gosh!! I prayed for you! I remember that game and I honestly remember praying for the people who were there in the heat enduring that nonsense! Blessings to you, my friend! Why was it always the Twins........ I ended up staying that whole game too. Bad decision haha but I was like 19 and out school for the summer and worked mornings at my part-time job at the time so had no where else to be.
-
Come on Brewers! Keep on winning over the next 3 weeks!
-
I was at another stinker against the Twins. 2010 maybe? We lost 20-1, it was like 90+ degrees out and I fried. Also the same day Peavy rejected a trade to the Sox lol

Tight wild card race in AL is good for sox

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) I think Giants will sell Melancon for sure. I think they will only end up selling the guys with (close to) expiring contracts. Then look to add again in free agency. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) The next three days will be tell tale signs to both cub and Brewers. I hope Billy Beane makes the cubs pay through the nose for Gray. The cubs will probably just take on Verlander's whole deal and give up a nothing prospect along with Avila. Apparently the Tigers want a team to take on Verlander's contract and send over 3 good prospects. Of course, that's where I would start with negotiations and ultimately, I think it's more of a salary dump with a good prospect and a couple alright prospects.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) Greg may be smarter than you all think or the best troll ever. It seems the only reason most people won't put him on ignore is because the temptation to respond to his posts is too great. It makes you feel smarter ( not you per se, all those who do respond to him). He is the most responded to and notorious member of Soxtalk. You can make brilliant observations and outstanding analysis but purposely being "off" gets you far more attention and responses. I've tried to put someone on "ignore" before. You still see that the person posts so you can't really fully ignore them. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 08:10 AM) Robertson, Kahnle, & cash for Soto & Kieboom. I'd drive both to the airport if that is an option.
-
QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) Lewis Brinson would look great in a White Sox uniform. Hmmm they seem to have other young OFs producing and could keep Phillips as well. And Braun is still holding down a spot through 21.
-
I want Gray or another available starter to go to the Cubs just because I think it is unlikely they would both reach a deal together anyway. So might as well take out an unlikely option.
-
Gray gets traded but I'm not sure where. Cubs?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:51 PM) Dude, just give it up. You're impossible to deal with. Seriously it's becoming unbearable. Well it already was. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Lopez and Collins missing...presumably Top 51-100. Fulmer out of the Top 100. Dunning added (presumably). Not sure what to make of Burdi exactly, but relievers usually aren't ranked anyway. Really sucks that this was a "if we are competing in August/September this season, we want him in our pen" type of pick. If they had committed to rebuilding at the time of the draft, I'm sure someone else would have been picked.

Finished Silicon Valley last night. Disappointing ending for TJ Miller (Erlich).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) OK SoxTalkers, help me out. The newest Planet of the Apes movie is coming out, and I am seeing lots of positive reviews. I've never seen any of them (other than the very old school original), because I can't get my head around the idea of liking what seems just so silly. Are these actually good movies? Do I need to see earlier ones for the more recent ones to sink in? I enjoy them. While you probably don't have to watch the first 2 to see this one but you might as well. I enjoyed both of them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) OK. I guess he projects to earn decent to good money in free agency since that appears to be what you are saying. The Sox can't just keep him for scraps I guess. They can trade him and then try to re-sign him in the off-season if they really wanted to. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) All I'm saying is his numbers project well as a catcher, really no where else at this time. He also has a good arm. Do you guys deny all these observations? If he keeps this progression up, he'll be a tad worse than Lexi's career, which I guess is still OK. Lexi was reliable. If Moncada and Anderson are as bad defensively as they appear to be, the Sox could be weak up the middle defensively when they have an MLB big-league roster again. The numbers you project here?: QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 11:10 PM) Defensively he's a disaster at ss. I'd send him down, teach him to take pitches and see if he can become a catcher. I'd take .260, 19 homers, 79 ribbies which appear to be his ceilings, at the catcher position. I would take that production at a few places other spots as well. Or somewhere where it makes sense for him: CF.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) My question to you is: Do you really believe these players we mention have a chance of being something on your next competitive team? Is a guy like this going to earn squat in free agency anyway? I guess deep down the goal is to lose so many games there's no doubt who gets the No. 1 overall pick cause you guys certainly want to get rid of anybody with a pulse. It will be funny watching Nate Jones close next season. I can buy your premise if the guys we get for Swarzak have a chance to help a contending team someday but I severely doubt that. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Why trade guys who have no trade value? Bodies? Sox need a couple closer candidates this year and next or they'll win even fewer than Hawk's coveted 60 games. Nate Jones is NO CLOSER. I don't think the draftniks want the sox to lose 115 games but maybe they do. THEY. ARE. REBUILDING.
