QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) Roberto Alomar and Omar Vizquel too You forgot Sandy who had like 3 different stints with the Sox. Edit: Kenny Lofton was also forgotten.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) I think the BoSox wind up with Frazier. They don't want Prado's contract next year and the year after. They've been linked to him though.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Contracts are straight-lined for luxury tax purposes, so their actual payroll should always be higher than luxury tax figure. Yeah this is how I remember it. One example of when a team's luxury tax figure being higher than a team's payroll is that Scherzer contract. He's receiving his payout over 14 years while for luxury tax purposes, it is over the 7 they have him.

I still rate it very close to a 10. It is hard to judge it as of right now only about 7 months in. But so far they've done a great job of stockpiling some front-end talent. And with only 3 trades!

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) If Washington is willing, it would be cool to see us go all out with this trade and package our top 3 for a haul. Robertson/Kahnle/Swarzak for Soto/Kieboom/Ward/Marmolejos/Garcia/throw-in Would be awesome to see that happen. Nats get to keep their top 2 prospects and also increase their chances of winning this year or next. I'm big on Soto and Kieboom. Edit: actually, don't like those other names. Make Ward or Marmolejos the throw-in piece and add Luzardo. -
Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox

QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) So my question is, who fills in for the 25th man? fact, the white sox website only shows 23 players on the active roster. Who fills in for Quintana and Willy Garcia? Already announced. Gonzalez and Saladino. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) Their top prospect Rafael Devers is a 3B, and was just promoted to AAA 2 hours ago. I 100% expect him to get called up this year. Just look at Moncada last year for them.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:28 AM) Not enough for gift wrapping the Cubs another World Series. Would have liked to see another top prospect rather than 3 fillers. Quality over quantity. Disappointed with the return. Would have rather kept Q until we saw what we have with the newest additions at the big league level before accepting this kind of return. I'm much more disappointed with this one than the returns for Sale or Eaton. Was thrilled with the Eaton return and mildly disappointed we couldn't pull Devers for Sale but thought his deal was just ok. Especially if you are giving him to the Cubs you've got to get a better deal than this. A #2 prospect in an organization and who is on top 100 lists is a filler? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Frazier For Sandoval & Groome (+throwin or two somewhere?) and the Red Sox pick up Sandoval's 2018 and 2019 dollars entirely. Gets the Red Sox their 3b, cuts $12.5 million off their 2017 payroll, should drop them below the tax level and thus out of the multi-year penalty. Does that work? All I don't know is if there is some version of the money the White Sox pick up being spread across the length of the deal when the tax level is calculated. I'm not sure the Red Sox would do that deal. It would have to be the White Sox eating the money to get Groome + other interesting prospects.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) How do the luxury tax implications work if the White Sox pick up some of that money? If that pushes the Red Sox beneath the tax level then that's a much bigger difference maker, but if that doesn't change the amount viewed for the tax level then the value of picking up the funds goes down. The White Sox payroll is going to be so low the next 2 years I don't think taking on most of Sandoval's money will really matter at all. Not an argument to go ahead and do it. Only if the Red Sox offered up something worth adding to make it worth our time.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) A Gray/Alonso package seems to make a lot of sense for the Yankees at this point. There was an article a week or two ago saying they could go this route.

If they pull off a deal for him and then let him Arrieta and Lackey walk/retire, they'd Have Lester Quintana Gray Hendricks. Not bad.

K-Rod released by Nats. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) Given the Yankees loss of Pineda now, they dropped the ball on Quintana They would have acquired Q to replace someone else, not Pineda.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) Yankees SP Michael Pineda diagnosed with partially torn UCL Hmmm do they try to add another arm or decide to just wait out and sell in 2 weeks (whoever they can)?

How much does Sandoval's salary effect the luxury tax over the next 2 years?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #Nationals promoting relievers Trevor Gott and Austin Adams. Sammy Solis back to minors. K-Rod not currently under consideration. Last ditch effort to figure out who can stick before deciding how many guys you need before deadline? -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Very interesting that they list 5 positional players ahead of Beer and Gray isn't one of them. Poor defense seems to hurt his value. Would not be mad at the idea of drafting him with idea for LF and fallback option being 1B.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) The Sox should be willing to eat nearly all of Frazier's bill to improve the return. I'm like 80% sure he was talking about Sandoval. If he was, our payroll is going to be so low next 2 years, I would strongly consider it if the Red Sox would send a few prospects to make it worth our while.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) Hawk referred to Samardzija and Sale as the "Captains of Attitude" in 2015. In his honor, I will refer to Shields as the "Captain of Tank" The Tank Commander -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Melky would be an upgrade for the Royals at DH and a offensive upgrade in LF. Since he's not worth much regardless, trade him for high K and high BB Skoglund I think he fits perfectly in Tampa to replace Rasmus.

Pablo Sandoval dfa'd.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) The goal should be Robertson & cash for Kieboom & Luzardo. Hell, I'd probably throw Swarzak in too if necessary, although I'd probably want a lottery ticket added to the mix. Kieboom would provide us with a high-end prospect that could eventually fill in on the left side of the infield and Luzardo gives us a much needed left-handed arm. Agree. I would settle on that but definitely shoot higher.
