Athletics interested in Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) Lazarito please Is this a guy we all wanted at some point? Name sounds familiar.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
Twins voided the contract of one of their international signings. He didn't pass his physical. The agreement was for a $3 million bonus.

It would awesome if he signs with the Sox but I'm going to predict Rangers.

Athletics interested in Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) The A’s always do things that are counterproductive to their rebuild, I’m not surprised that they’d try and buy Avi. Although, it makes a little more sense, because Avi has 2y left of control. But, then again, they traded for Jon Lester to try and beat the unstoppable regular season Angels at that point. Same with 2008 and Matt Holliday. lol traded their best run producer for him.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:58 AM) Considering what they would have to pay him, and what kind of revenue he would generate just from Japan, $20 million is something JR would love to pay. I would think so too.

JD Martinez/Scott Bora$
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) Well sure, because they just trade him, because the league always bails the Tigers out of their bad contract decisions. Well it's possible he would have opted out if he stayed in Detroit. And his contract really isn't too bad. Its not like that Fielder or Cabrera one.

Athletics interested in Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:46 AM) http://www.sfgate.com/athletics/article/A-...-s-12357838.php The A’s have most of their lineup set but want to add a right-handed-hitting outfielder, and it was learned they have interest in Avisail Garcia of the White Sox, or at least that type of player. Garcia, 26, is coming off a breakout season and was a first-time All-Star, hitting .330 with 18 homers and 80 RBIs in 136 games. Chicago GM Rick Hahn said he’s open to trading Garcia and first baseman Jose Abreu, both of whom are under club control through 2019. It doesn't appear to make sense for the A's since it seems like they are rebuilding but they always do this kind of stuff so in a way, it does make sense since Garcia is cheap and that's kind of how Oakland has to operate. Also, I'll save everyone a bit of time: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=oak

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
Is it also possible that JR wouldn't want to pay the $20 million posting fee if he did sign with us? Aren't the Sox paying Robert this year?

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:20 AM) While I agree with this point, I’m not sure it really matters when you’re talking about a player of his reputation and a $300k signing bonus. They’ve certainly seen enough tape of him to confirm that he’s worth $300k. More likely than not though the front office simply doesn’t think he’ll accept such a small bonus when other teams can offer several million more and don’t think it’s worth wasting the time/resources. I think that would be pretty foolish as it’s not like we’re going to have an overly active winter. Defintiely worth the Hail Mary shot IMO. What's the Rangers situation looking like? I know they have higher amount to spend on him but I'm unsure of their DH situation. Is Choo the primary DH on that team? Edit: just looked into it. Seems to be a lot of variables (trading Profar, who is out of options, deciding if Calhoun will come up at some point early on, if Gallo is the 1B or not, etc.)

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) If you want to make an impression that you want him more than every other team in baseball, the first thing to do would be that. Is it confirmed he sat down with a representative from every team that saw him?

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
Do you really need to go scout a player to see how good he is these days if you already know he is really good?

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
QUOTE (Soha @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 06:15 AM) It would feel like a longshot in every possible way: 1) One of the worst teams in baseball 2) Weren't among the teams originally thought to be interested 3) A team that doesn't have a sexy ballpark, fanbase or history. What exactly is going to draw him here? Sure it's possible...but it feels like a 1 in 1000 chance at best. The fact that the Sox are a team that can offer semi-regular at bats. So could other teams but how many contenders would want to guarantee that?

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
I mean, they can offer him a decent amount of at bats...

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
There's no room for regular at bats for veterans unless they deal Abreu and avi.

Giancarlo Stanton traded to Yankees
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) I want to say they were a fairly serious bidder for him? Trade us 2-3 top prospects (1-2 in the top 50/100) and their competitive balance pick.

Giancarlo Stanton traded to Yankees
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) I'm totally confused by the proposed roster additions to the cards. Seems like they have an abundance of hit first/defensively ? players. They keep proposing more. Is that in response to Stanton or Abreu? Because Stanton is a good defensive player.

Giancarlo Stanton traded to Yankees
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/gian...rs-tuesday.html Update says he hasn't ruled out anyone. I think this guy would waive his no-trade clause 100% for any non-rebuilding (or close to finishing rebuild) team. The guy doesn't want to be in Miami anymore.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) MLB Trade Rumors @mlbtraderumors 45m45 minutes ago #SFGiants seem to be in on the Giancarlo Stanton sweepstakes. But the club is also reportedly interested in quite a different player: #Reds CF Billy Hamilton. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/giants-interested-in-billy-hamilton-reds-rumors-trade.html …://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017...rs-trade.html …://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017...rs-trade.html … Need that OF defense in that spacious park.

GM meetings 2017
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Mainly bummed that this FA class doesn't even have many interesting buy low opps. Will still be interested in what the marlins do and where Ohtani will go. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't even hold off signing players until jan, especially pitchers. Yeah it's going to be a boring off-season for sure. At least on our end.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Why are we even talking about this? This should be in the Diamond Club IMO. Sox blew their Int'l wad on Robert; can't sign anyone on the Int'l market for more than $300k until 2019 so I don't think they have a snowball's chance in hell to get Ohtani. It is understandable that they blew their wad on Robert, as a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. The idea is since he is already sacrificing hundreds of millions of dollars to come here early, a couple more million isn't a big deal. You are correct: the most we can spend is $300k but the most another team can sign him for is ~$3.5 million.

40-man roster decisions and the Rule 5 Draft
Putnam should be dropped. No point in hin taking up a 40-man spot all off-season. If they want to re-sign him to a minor league deal, that's fine.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Hasn't he hit 30 homers and driven in 100 the last 4 years? He should be worshiped by our fans instead modern baseball ... "trade him! He might not continue doing this well. Besides he's a bad defender and not that good!!" Hate to tell ya ... unless he's been lying about his age he still in theory will be productive during our 3-4 year window of possible WS titles. Dude no one is saying trade him for those reasons you list above.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Which would be solved by Abreu. If they're trying to win now, Abreu makes sense. If they're not, they should and probably will hang on to McMahon. The key word in my previous comment was "long term." But yeah, I think they end up hanging onto McMahon. Random note: it would be awesome if Michalczewski broke out next year.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Scouts apparently don't, either. I'm just messing. Has time to improve I guess. But it doesn't seem like 1B is locked down for the Rox long term either.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Why? No one here thinks he can play 3B, so why would him staying or going depend on Arenado? McMahon+ for Abreu makes sense of they see their contention window as being right now, which they should if they want to keep Arenado. Lower payroll in 2018 = more money to spend in 2019. If the White Sox land Manny Machado because they have a lower payroll this year, it's worth it. Besides, there's a chance the White Sox could get the best free agent of this offseason for $300K. We're all scouts now?
