  1. I mean, they can offer him a decent amount of at bats...
  2. There's no room for regular at bats for veterans unless they deal Abreu and avi.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) I want to say they were a fairly serious bidder for him? Trade us 2-3 top prospects (1-2 in the top 50/100) and their competitive balance pick.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) I'm totally confused by the proposed roster additions to the cards. Seems like they have an abundance of hit first/defensively ? players. They keep proposing more. Is that in response to Stanton or Abreu? Because Stanton is a good defensive player.
  5. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/gian...rs-tuesday.html Update says he hasn't ruled out anyone. I think this guy would waive his no-trade clause 100% for any non-rebuilding (or close to finishing rebuild) team. The guy doesn't want to be in Miami anymore.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) MLB Trade Rumors‏ @mlbtraderumors 45m45 minutes ago #SFGiants seem to be in on the Giancarlo Stanton sweepstakes. But the club is also reportedly interested in quite a different player: #Reds CF Billy Hamilton. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/giants-interested-in-billy-hamilton-reds-rumors-trade.html …://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017...rs-trade.html …://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017...rs-trade.html … Need that OF defense in that spacious park.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Mainly bummed that this FA class doesn't even have many interesting buy low opps. Will still be interested in what the marlins do and where Ohtani will go. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't even hold off signing players until jan, especially pitchers. Yeah it's going to be a boring off-season for sure. At least on our end.
  8. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Why are we even talking about this? This should be in the Diamond Club IMO. Sox blew their Int'l wad on Robert; can't sign anyone on the Int'l market for more than $300k until 2019 so I don't think they have a snowball's chance in hell to get Ohtani. It is understandable that they blew their wad on Robert, as a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. The idea is since he is already sacrificing hundreds of millions of dollars to come here early, a couple more million isn't a big deal. You are correct: the most we can spend is $300k but the most another team can sign him for is ~$3.5 million.
  9. Putnam should be dropped. No point in hin taking up a 40-man spot all off-season. If they want to re-sign him to a minor league deal, that's fine.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Hasn't he hit 30 homers and driven in 100 the last 4 years? He should be worshiped by our fans instead modern baseball ... "trade him! He might not continue doing this well. Besides he's a bad defender and not that good!!" Hate to tell ya ... unless he's been lying about his age he still in theory will be productive during our 3-4 year window of possible WS titles. Dude no one is saying trade him for those reasons you list above.
  11. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Which would be solved by Abreu. If they're trying to win now, Abreu makes sense. If they're not, they should and probably will hang on to McMahon. The key word in my previous comment was "long term." But yeah, I think they end up hanging onto McMahon. Random note: it would be awesome if Michalczewski broke out next year.
  12. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Scouts apparently don't, either. I'm just messing. Has time to improve I guess. But it doesn't seem like 1B is locked down for the Rox long term either.
  13. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Why? No one here thinks he can play 3B, so why would him staying or going depend on Arenado? McMahon+ for Abreu makes sense of they see their contention window as being right now, which they should if they want to keep Arenado. Lower payroll in 2018 = more money to spend in 2019. If the White Sox land Manny Machado because they have a lower payroll this year, it's worth it. Besides, there's a chance the White Sox could get the best free agent of this offseason for $300K. We're all scouts now?
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) I agree with the poster who doesn’t want to lock up Abreu to a $20M AAV deal until he’s 37. That’s why you sign him to a four year extension this offseason. The closer you get to free agency with him, the deeper into his mid & late 30’s an extension will require. I feel pretty good about him remaining a highly productive hitter for the next few years (even if he must move to DH at some point) and only 2018 should be a wasted season per se. And while I think the mentorship role is important, I also think having him a key member of the team is important towards recruiting high-end free agents next offseason. There is a lot of value in keeping Abreu around and I’m ok paying a slight premium in AAV if he’ll agee to a reasonable contract length. Yeah and while payroll is low, I would try to front-load it.
  15. People keeping throwing McMahon out there but that guy is going nowhere unless Arenado signs an extension soon.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) I think the White Sox say no since they are looking to trade for prospects. Interesting proposal though. Yeah only 3 years of control.
  17. Based on new QO rules, Royals can potentially have 3 extra picks at the end of the first round in next year's draft. That would be a pretty nice haul for them.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) Frazier is a FA. Clint Frazier is not.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) Seems crazy to have him make max effort throws from the OF on the days when he should be resting his arm. Sounds like an injury waiting to happen. He also hasn't played the OF in years. That's a good point. I hadn't realized that. It seems like it would have to be a team that can offer DH at bats and let him pitch. How many teams can offer that?
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) Yes, the only question would be would they truly let him do both, especially if they are in win now mode. . With Ellsbury, Gardner, Judge and Frazier between OF and DH along with a guy like Headley getting DH at bats after Torres comes up, there really isn't room for him to get the at bats. Unless of course they trade Garnder and eat some money and release Headley.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) Here is what teams can offer him: Texas Rangers — $3,535,000 New York Yankees — $3,250,000 Minnesota Twins — $3,245,000 Pittsburgh Pirates — $2,266,750 Miami Marlins — $1,740,000 Seattle Mariners — $1,570,500 Philadelphia Phillies — $900,000 Milwaukee Brewers — $765,000 Arizona Diamondbacks — $731,250 Baltimore Orioles — $660,000 Boston Red Sox — $462,000 Tampa Bay Rays — $440,500 Atlanta Braves – $300,000 Chicago Cubs – $300,000 Chicago White Sox – $300,000 Cincinnati Reds – $300,000 Houston Astros – $300,000 Kansas City Royals – $300,000 Los Angeles Dodgers – $300,000 Oakland Athletics – $300,000 St. Louis Cardinals – $300,000 San Diego Padres – $300,000 San Francisco Giants – $300,000 Washington Nationals – $300,000 Detroit Tigers — $159,500 Los Angeles Angels — $150,000 New York Mets — $150,000 Toronto Blue Jays — $50,000 Cleveland Indians — $10,000 Colorado Rockies — $10,000 Nice summary DA. I think the White Sox will make a nice pitch to him but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Would be interesting to see if an NL team would offer him a spot in the OF 3-4 games a week and pitch every 5th day.
  22. He won't get that much but nothing wrong with starting at that point.
  23. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I guess this has become a catch-all. It’s all over Twitter that Charlie Sheen is accused of sodomizing then 13 Corey Haim. https://www.google.com/amp/www.dailymail.co...-set-Lucas.html It seemed like only a matter of time before Sheen's name came up in accusations...but I wasn't expecting this.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) JJ Cooper‏Verified account @jjcoop36 Some MILB FAs that stand out to me on a first pass...RHP Alejandro Chacin, OF/RHP Anthony Gose, LHP Ismael Guillon, RHP Christian Bethancourt, 3B Patrick Leonard. This is an interesting one since the Sox have some past success converting position players into pitchers.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) It was at the end of August. Unless you got a deal for two years or a deal with options, it is pointless. Yeah that's why I included the option year.
