QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) There's a reason why they almost won it all last year Would have been interesting to see a healthy Salazar, Carrasco, and Brantley in that series. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:33 PM) Why are you still commenting on this pointless thread? You don't understand my points, that's clear. I'm not berating you. No one here agrees with you but I guess I'm the one who doesn't understand.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Again, I'm still stuck on this point - why was a guy like Asche a guy they targeted to give a flier in spring to give a chance to compete for a spot. He just seemed like the wrong type of player for what the Sox are trying to do, that's all. So he's bad but not the bad we need. Got it.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Thank you for doing your part to add to the discussion. Your comments are appreciated. Since it's a pointless thread, by all means, exit the conversation. Thanks again. No problem sir. You asked and I gave you 6 legitimate reasons. The reason you still don't understand at this point is on you.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) For one thing, he's hurt. For another, he missed most of last year and was brutal in the spring. That's true too. Liriano is on minor league dl. Forgot to mention before.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) What would have been the cost of Rymer Liriano? The same that Asche is costing us and you will see him at some point anyway. Jesus what a pointless thread lol

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Yes, the guy who didn't play a single game last year. The same guy that k'd I think it was over 20 times in Spring Training? He'll be here as well at some point.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Why not Delmonico over everyone? He will take 3B when Frazier goes. No reason that he shouldn't be in the minors getting some grounders.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Why not Rymer Liriano over Cody Asche. The guy who didn't play a single game last year?

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) Let me be very clear about my argument, because you all seem to be conflating my points. 1) If we're going to experiment with a scrap heap reclamation project that has kicked around the majors for a few years, which is what the White Sox MAY have been doing with Cody Asche, I would have wanted to go out and get a different type of player than Cody Asche. I would want no part of a contact hitter who has a low OBP and no power and has no defensive upside, because his ceiling is such that the "reclamation" is just going to make the rebuild extra confusing if it goes literally as well as possible - which is to say he ends up as a .250 hitter playing below average defense and getting about 10-12 extra base hits in limited time. I would much rather the White Sox have gone out and gotten a different type of player if there was going to be a reclamation project like this, because this guy seems wrong for the things that Guaranteed Rate Field is built for. Why tender this guy a minor league contract over calling up a AAA player with power and a nice OBP. Just looking at the AAA roster, why not Rymer Liriano, for example? 2) If the white sox were filling out the roster with "just a guy" then I don't understand why they are filling out the roster with THIS guy. This guy seems too good to be "just a guy," but too poor in the needed areas to be a guy that actually helps them in the ways that this team could be helped. Who is/was available at a minimal price? You seem to keep avoiding examples. Some of these "types of guys" go claimed on waivers and aren't just free to add.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) Soto 8th doesn't make much sense. I'd probably go as high as 6. -
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) I agree. Don't forget they have Chris Devenski and Martes who although maybe can't be stretched out for an extended playoff run this year are very, very capable pitchers. Same goes with Musgroves. The problem with the Astros is that they'll need a lot to go there way - but hey, didn't the Royals do that for a few years in a row? I can see the Astros bolstering their bullpen with trades of likes of Tony Kemp, etc. but I don't think they'll mortgage their future for Q. I mean looking at their rotation.. Keuchel, McHugh, McCullers, Morton, Musgrove, Fiers, Devenski, Martes So if you're talking about getting through a year I think they'll be fine, even with an injury or two. That's 8 pitchers for 5 spots. That rotation has to be better than the 2015 Royals' rotation lol

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Kris Bryant is coming to my workplace in an hour to do a promotional batting practice thing. When will this every day nightmare end You work for Red Bull?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) I think they wouldn't budge because they didn't feel that Quintana was a big enough of an upgrade to do so, given their initial situation. A rotation featuring Keuchel, McCullers, McHugh, Morton, and Musgrove is talented enough that, if everything goes even according to plan, they'd be sitting OK, and there is potential that rotation could be very good. However, injuries can and do strike, as do struggles. McHugh is out for a while and both McCullers and Morton have been injury-riddled. If they get to a point where they are using replacement level performance in their rotation, which could easily cost them in the standings, their willingness to pay more is worth it because of how large the upgrade is. I agree. That is a talented bunch and I kinda felt like they might hold off and see how guys are doing or if anyone is hurt before trading off 4-5 guys from their farm. That's completely understandable in my opinion.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) I would like to say that for those that have hated on Whitesox Dave and have labeled him as just a drunken fool have totally sold him short. The guy may be a drunk at times but he is no fool. Smart guy, NW graduate apparently, and is creating quite the empire via social media. He is a legit contact for Whitesox information in my opinion. I've never doubted his cred. I've just described him as "that drunk Dave guy on twitter" to describe who I was referring to lol

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) I dont think you can say they are now shy to trade because they have had one trade that looks iffy. You can argue that they won tjat trade seeing how Tulo is now and what the Rockies have replaced him with. I just dont think the Rockies think Q would do well at that altitude. That may be true And Tulo is injury-prone getting paid a lot as well.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Thought I remembered him playing outfield in Spring Training. Could be wrong. You're right that he did. Nothing wrong with getting work at 3B though.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Can Delmonico play third base? I thought he was just an outfielder now. Every game he has played this year has been at 3B.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) At some point soon, I wouldn't mind seeing Davidson/Hayes in a DH platoon and Delmonico at 3B with Frazier gone but having Cody Asche is completely fine and being mad about him being here is pretty irrational. Exactly. Hopefully we're not too far from seeing Hayes in the mix at 1B and DH. Delmonico hopefully can come up and handle 3B ASAP but I don't think Frazier is getting moved anytime soon.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) Forbes came out today, whether they are accurate or not is always up for debate, but according to them, the team made a $41.9 million profit last year and is worth $1.35 billion. So can we forget any talk of them moving? Get that rational thought out of here. This is Soxtalk.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) I have no doubt the Sox want to sign him to an extension like they did with Anderson but I don't know if Moncada would do that. He'd probably want to test free agency when he's 28 or 29. Yeah probably. He'd basically have to break a record for most money signed pre-arb. He does also have that $30 mill signing bonus (that the Red Sox are still paying).
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) I don't understand how he sucks too much to be considered for a roster spot and yet will vault the Sox to 77 wins at the same time lol right? He's exactly the type of player he's arguing to be in the lineup instead: just a guy.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) That would be for another full year of service, not for Super 2, correct? I want to say that it is for the extra year of service. Anyone else think the Sox will be aggressive in trying to sign him to an extension very early (let's say by next season) trying to buy-out a few years of free agency?
