QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) For Tim Anderson it is a lot of money. Especially if he gets a serious injury or suddenly becomes bad at baseball, which happens to the best of prospects. Had Gordon Beckham been given the same deal at the same age, he would be $12 million richer right now. You are just acting like these deals do nothing for the player. He's not referring to the deal from Tim Anderson's perspective. From the team's perspective, it isn't a lot of money if he ends up sucking or is mediocre.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) It might have cost a little bit more, but I personally would have waited until June to try to lock him with this. See where he's at. It probably still would have been about the same but I kind of agree. Maybe premature but it's not a lot of money either.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) It depends on how he does. It's still $25 million, same as what they will pay James Shields, and supposedly that was devastating. If he's good it's great. If he's hitting .240 with a .250 OBP, it won't be good. I like his chances, but there is always the chance he could regress especially if he doesn't become a bit more selective. It's not really comparable to James Shields. 2.5 years isn't the same as 6. Honestly, if he plays great d at short, it still may not even be bad.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:41 AM) What deals like this amount to is a mutual bet between club ownership and the player The player likes the security a deal like that gives him and his family. $25 million allows Tim to be set for life. The Sox are betting that he succeeds and gets to buy out two seasons of free agency at a significantly reduced rate via teams options I'm sure the Sox would love to approach Rodon about an extension, although I'm not sure if Boras would allow for it Yeah Boras would never allow them to sign a team friendly contract giving away a year or two of control.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) I'm thinking the Sox need to have a few club option years attached to have this deal make sense? If not, I'm not sure how this will work in the Sox favor? I'm guessing it is 6 years, $25 million guaranteed with 2 years of club options afterwards at a reasonable sum of money Sox likely control him via options for upto 8 years How/why are you guessing when it's already been posted multiple times above?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) I'm kinda confused until we know how much additional control we have. 2 option years. So we gained 2 years of control plus we keep his arbitration numbers low. If he ends up sucking, it's not a lot of money and his defense alone should make him valuable.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) That was my first thought...and It's a scary one. As much as I love the guy as a player I would rather this be injury related than something threatening his kid. Agreed.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) IIRC, the Sox have hit Verlander in the past so the Sox might start the season 1-0. It could be the only time we see them above .500 so at least they would be division leaders if only for a day. Isn't that kind of irrelevant since there has been a ton of turnover on the roster?

Danks granted release from Braves. Hoping to pitch in the MLB. Come join the tank show!

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) From MLBTradeRumors: Hmmm. Basically what everyone expected. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) But Sale not pitching bumped noesi into the home opener spot. edit: I may be misremembering, but I thought that there was a chance Sale started home opener as he recovered from his foot. Sale pitched what the 6th game that season? Samardzija got 2 starts in before Sale debuted that Sunday (I was there) and at home opener that Friday where I too suffered through a beatdown.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) Awesome. Was worried it would be a 2015 scenario where I thought I would see Sale and ended up with Noesi. Well deserved for Q. Well that was different. That is the home opener you are referring to which was also 4th game of the season. Opening day doesn't always = home opener.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) 1.) Quintana 2.) Rodon 3.) Shields 4.) Gonzalez 5.) Holland CL - Robertson SU - Jones LHP - Jennings RHP - Putnam RHP - Petricka RHP - Ynoa LHP - Luebke Just looked at Covey's spring. I definitely don't think they will keep him (unless they trade like a PTBNL for him).

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) What's the point of carrying both Leury and Yolmer? Aren't they redundant? Is it just because both are out of options? I guess so even though they could probably take a chance sending Yolmer down.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) Davidson is a lock as he's out of options. Bench will likely be Sanchez, Garcia, Soto, and 1 of Liriano/Asche. Davidson on the roster as primary DH. If it's between Asche and Liriano, I don't see how it can't be Asche. Liriano may be out of options but seems very effected by the injury last year (vision problems since). Not hitting well at all and 18 ks. Definitely can risk optioning him down.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) You think they'll carry 5 guys on the bench (including the backup catcher)? Seems unlikely to me. Asche seems likely to be the DH at this point. I'm not sure Davidson is a sure thing for this roster personally.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/03/red-...p;post-id=87757 Boston still looking for a starting pitcher. Maybe someone like Gonzalez. But probably a free agent signing or a trade for someone optionable. -
QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) @CSNHayes Tim Anderson out of #WhiteSox lineup for 3rd straight (1st was planned). Not an injury. Was told nothing to worry about. I'll be honest, my first thought when I saw there was a post in here was that we had interest in Norris for whatever reason haha
-
QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 07:03 AM) We gotta find someone to teach Yoan to cut down on those k's. Even if we can get that to say 25% rate that would be huge. I'd even pay a guy outside of the organization if we have to. We are already paying guys INSIDE the organization to help with this. No need to go outside.
-
Cody Asche is definitely hitting his way onto the roster. He's seen time at 1B as well this spring.

Asked this last week, but has anyone added external hard drive to their ps4 since the update?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) I know we've had some positive reports on May but from what I saw down in Arizona this spring he is not a MLB CF. He takes awful routes and it's not like his bat is anything special either. There's really no reason to start his arb clock. Give him more time in AAA and see if he can figure it out. He could still be a decent 4th OF. For a guy like May, you probably don't worry about service time and arbitration. He probably does need time in Triple-A however.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) Perhaps, but we will need to suck pretty hard to be picking in the top 5 next season to have a shot at him or Singer I agree.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Beer's bat is unquestioned to be plus, but his defense and athleticism are another story Beer would be drafted either as a bat first outfielder, or a first baseman...both of which are pretty unlikely to be selected #1 overall in the draft Teams are valuing defense and speed more than every before, which raises questions about drafting a bat that high If his defense improves, he might go #1, but if scouts are not convinced he can stick in the outfield he might slip further than most think Play him in LF and let him hit you 30+ bombs.
