  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) While our system is dramatically improved from last March, I wouldn't put us top 3 right now due to a lack of depth Our system has nice talent in the top 10, but gets significantly less interesting beyond that Landing a player like Robert, drafting well this season and a few trades (Quintana/Robertson) could really boost the system further I agree. Probably in 6-10 range.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) I thought wolverine didn't age. Is that explained? I think it was explained in the second solo Wolverine movie. But that doesn't count anymore since that timeline was reset with "X-Men: Days of Future's Past." Even before that movie, it was riddled with inconsistencies galore. MCU 1,000,000 x > X-Men cinematic universe.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) It's more just that basically everyone is already gone from last offseason where they made a ton of moves. The performance of the players was very underwhelming as well. Who else is gone from the "ton of moves?" They biggest one is still here.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) Right, I think they thought he'd be our 3rd baseman to start year. That said, I don't like the look of twice having picked up the option on players then released them in spring training when it's less likely they can find an ML role, aside from the cash issues. I know Lawrie has an injury again, still wish it didn't work out this way. I highly doubt we're the only team. Plus, I don't think Viciedo even made it to spring training.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) The reason to keep him around was to flip him. If he's still dealing with the leg problems, you aren't going to be able to flip him so dump him. It makes a lot of sense. I like how Lawrie plays, and think the Sox could use a guy like him, but if he can't stay on the field, he can't help anyway. I hope for his sake, he can get healthy and stay healthy, and play up to his potential somewhere else. He's actually younger than Saladino. And even then, Lawrie doesn't really have a ton of upside so what could you really get for him.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) It's some percentage that goes up the closer you get to opening day. So it's probably 20-25%. Enough for Lawrie to pay the bills for sure, but peanuts for the team. It also opens up a spot on the 40, but Soto still needs to be added, so who knows if something is immanent there. MLBtr article said that they are on the hook for 1/6 of his salary- about $574k. Also as someone else said, Bourjos is on a minor league deal.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) Or maybe Moncada looks ready. He won't be on the roster until he accrues that extra year of service time, which is sometime in May (if he is ready). It would be dumb if he is on the Opening Day roster.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) Well, they won't have to pay him much. Maybe it wasn't the orthotics. Yeah I have a feeling this guy isn't close to getting back on a field. How much do they owe him? What did the Sox have to pay Viciedo after he was released after being tendered a contract, like a quarter of the amount?
  9. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Scott Merkin @scottmerkin now White Sox request waivers on Brett Lawrie Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 31s #WhiteSox have requested waivers on Brett Lawrie for purpose of granting him his unconditional release. Nice. Saladino at second and Garcia as backup IF (as of now)?
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) The clock is ticking Bruce Levine. March 10th is one week from today. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock... Not expecting Boston to come calling for Q. It would be a better idea to give their depth a chance to step up and re-evaluate their rotation in June. Wouldn't be surprised if sports writers come out with articles about how the Yanks should increase their level of interest for Q. Yeah. Gives them something to write about lol
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) <!--quoteo(post=3486966:date=Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:00 AM:name=soxfan2014)-->QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) <!--quotec-->Thank god. Just over 3 weeks until we have it. I've seen this. I follow Operation Sports haha
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) Defense and ball physics are a big thing they worked on for the new game. My biggest issue was turning double plays. If the throw to 2B was short, I wouldn't have enough time to preload a throw, so my 2B would hold the ball for half a second before throwing to 1st instead of doing it in one fluid motion because it was waiting for me to get the throw meter in the green. Also, urgency of defenders was always an issue that has apparently been fixed as well. Thank god. Just over 3 weeks until we have it.
  13. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) Wow, you're going to be mightily impressed. I'm still playing my franchise from last year's game. I play a few games a week. I wish the defense in The Show would play as smoothly as it did in MVP 05. Having said that, The Show is amazing and I'm with you, I need to squeeze in a few games a week in RTTS.
  14. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) No. I'm ~90% done with it and I haven't seen a single thing related to the other games* yet. It's still survival horror, but gets away from zombies, Umbrella Corporation, etc. *RE1-4. I didn't play 5-6. There's a few Easter Eggs in the game for sure but that's really it when it comes to the connections to the old games. Re5 was actually a really fun game. More in line with RE4 though than RE 0-3 and CVX.
  15. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) I haven't played Resident Evil since back on the original Playstation days. Would I be missing anything if I jump into the newer game? Nope.
  16. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Resident Evil 7 is very good and won't be a time sink. The Last of Us Remastered is always a good pickup as well. This^ QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) If you didn't play Last of Us for ps3, get it for ps4. And this^. I've played through Last of Us at least 4 times already and play the multiplayer a lot (haven't had a ton of time to dedicate to new games as well). RE7 was a game that I beat in just under 10 hours.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) How are we ranking the positions in terms of premium? I'd probably go... SS CF 3B RF C 2B LF 1B So where do we draw the line? Catcher I believe should be top 3 for sure.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) Let me ask the board this. Would you guys rather have Robert, 20 guys signed for $300k each, plus whatever we could get for $3.5 in slot money or our last two signing classes? I'll take the former hands down even with the helium Tatis has right now. Robert is too special of a talent to pass on for a bunch of B/C tier 16 year old prospects. Agreed. Also with a hard cap, teams will hit their limit that they can spend and a lot of the kids are going to be forced to sign for $300k. So if he clears before the next signing period, sign at any cost.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 03:33 PM) They did not get screwed. They knew full and well the next change would cut down on being able to blow past the cap. The white sox were helped by the new rules. I meant from a standpoint where they were never able to sign a bunch of the top talent in one signing period freely. This would have been the year for it with so many teams capped at only $300k signings.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) It was a different circumstance. Ideally, yes the Sox would have blown through, but for those that did, there is no guarantee they can sign him either, and if he is better than the guys you signed, isn't one better than 3 or 4? I am quite sure there are teams unable to offer Robert more than 300k that would take another 2 year penalty to get him signed. The Sox got screwed with the CBA change. If it were still the same rules next signing period as it was the previous few years, they would be able to load up on a bunch of the top guys. But yeah, it changed so what can you do? Might as well sign the best prospect possible. And 19 at that.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Sorry, I wrote it strangely, now that I read it again. My bad. What I meant to say was, yes, if he clears before 6/15 (who knows if that happens or not), the Sox have every reason to go big and sign him, and I'm guessing they will be very much in the mix. If he clears after, then the Sox have a very good shot at him in the same way they were able to get a lot better Rule 4 draft picks when those rules changed. Either way, the Sox are in it, and it makes a ton of sense to go get him. The Sox haven't done a rebuild like this since the late 1990's. The amateur scouting department has new leadership that has so far shown they don't do things the old ways - in fact they went into penalty range in the Rodon draft. The Sox have less teams to compete with due to current penalties for some teams. The team is projecting to dramatically decrease MLB payroll in this rebuild. The attitudes in the front office have shifted. While it's silly to say the Sox WILL do it, I think in this case it's equally silly to say 100% they won't. Nah you were fine all along, I think I just quickly glanced at it the first time.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) Interesting. Thanks for the insight. Regardless, everything coming from Boston's camp makes this seem ominous. I have always liked Price and I wish him the best here. Yeah I've always been a fan of his.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) This is such a problem. I don't have a problem giving up the long drunken Friday/Saturday nights I have a problem giving up the random 2-3 IPAs I have after a long work day with a friend/girlfriend. Yeah I've cut back significantly on the drunken Friday and Saturday nights. They happen on very rare occasions now. The beer and the gin and ginger ales help take the edge off after a long work day.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) They are still on last year's, so what he is saying is if they were going to blow it and get the penalty, spending more earlier would be the play. And he is correct. The only thing is, if he doesn't clear until later, you have zero shot. Assuming they don't have any big agreements not yet know for the next signing period, they are one of the few teams that can be in either way. I misread what he said completely. For some reason I thought he was saying Sox could sign him early next period and then go ham after. I understand and get everything you said. Misinterpretation on my part in my cubicle haha

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) I'm not the least bit religious but usually give up something. I gave up Diet Coke this year. That said, since I'm dealing with surgery recovery and kicked booze 101 days ago, I'm going to go ahead and jump back on the soda train. f*** that. Congrats, man. I want to do the same. Just tough because of my friends and wanting the "end of a long work day" drink.
