  1. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Anybody think we would kick $ in to move a Robertson trade along? I know JR doesn't typically do that, but I think it would probably drum up more interest. I know his contract isn't a killer compared to what the open market is right now, but it definitely does come with risk given that he hasn't exactly been great. I just feel like a team would be more willing to give up something decent if they were getting Robertson at say 2/$18M I hope so.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Yeah, I have that same smidge of disappointment that what was supposed to an "unprecedented haul" ended up a tad smaller than hoped. One more significant piece like Devers could have offset that a little. Still in all, a good trade with a great headliner. Agreed. Felt like it was a piece off. But combined with the Eaton deal, great hauls so far.
  3. What about Christian Villanueva if Frazier gets dealt? He was non-tendered I believe. Edit: I see he missed all of last year with an ankle injury but a minor league deal doesn't hurt.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I look at it like this. Will the Sox suck next year? Yes. Will they suck the year after that? Probably. The year after? Maybe. But how is that any different than the past 8 years? It's been almost a decade since the Sox made the playoffs. I'm much more optimistic about the Sox now than I was 72 hours ago. The prospects might bust, but at least they tried something new and picked a direction. I can't fault them for that. I'd rather watch a 55 win team with young potential than the same 75 win team year after year that never gets any better because they constantly acquire old, declining talent.. Pretty spot on. We at least have hope.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) Anyone expect Q to get dealt today? No. Robertson? Maybe.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) At least you could acknowledge I was right, and what this guy wrote really made no sense from the get go. Agreed. White Sox paying Q to pitch somewhere is a ridiculous idea due to his contract being so team friendly. Its a big part of the reason why you would acquire him.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) Yes, yes, yes! But we already cleaned out their system lmao. So who do they have left that the Sox would want? Severino? Stevenson? Turner? We cleaned out some of their best prospects but yeah, as you've listed, there are more.
  8. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Free Agents taking a flyer Desmond Jennings Derek Holland Oswaldo Arcia Nathan Evoladi out for the year, but give him a 2 year contract to rehab this year Eric Aybar Pedro Alvarez Joe Smith Greg Holland Colby Rasmus sign with a team yet? I'd include him on the list.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Dan HayesVerified account ‏@CSNHayes Rick Hahn didn't think anything was imminent -- "but still thoroughly engaged, deeply engaged on a number of different fronts." #WhiteSox Beautiful.
  10. Dodgers are apparently not willing to match the Marlins offer.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) Miguel Montero would be the ideal acquisition. I agree. We have financial flexibility and he wouldn't cost a lot. Cubs pitchers liked throwing to him and I think he was a positive mentor towards Contreras (who still needs work himself).
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) When is Beer eligible to be drafted? Sign me up for tanking Supposedly 2018. Go for worst record next season!
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) If only that deal would've happened...lol. For Morrow correct?
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) The meetings end when the Rule 5 is completed. Travel day. Don't expect anything today, and maybe not until next week. Not necessarily. Sox and Mariners talked Viciedo til late afternoon on the last day a few years ago.
  15. If I were Stros, I'd offer Encarnacion like a 4-year deal with an opt out after year 1. He will end up signing something similar to Cespedes laat year I think.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) Sox pass in the AAA phase Anyone take Cave?
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) Doesn't seem like a guy who can stick or a bullpen candidate. Odd pick Was hoping for a lefty or Cave.
  18. You guys think we'll take anyone else? We're at 39 now according to mlbtr.
  19. Worth noting that we pick 9th. Edit: Braves released a guy right before draft so 10th.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) See future Sox article for preview. Sox at risk for losing Will Lamb or Nick Delmonico. Some interesting speed guys available. Possibly. I think we take a left handed pitcher to see if he sticks in the pen. Don't think we will lose Delmonico.
  21. How is Smith defensively? Could we platoon him and Narvaez? Any possible cast-offs on other teams that are good defensively? Maybe try to acquire Montero? Don't know.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:08 AM) There are no good defensive catchers. And I hate idea of pairing Rodon with garbage again. Maybe suck it up with Pena? Pair Rodon up wity Narvaez. Let a year signing of Wieters (potentially) or someone else catch the other garbage we sign and Shields.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) Rasmus -keep Avi at DH Derrick Holland - if cheap. Don't need relief pitchers Will have to find a vet stopgap catcher soon esp if pitching prospects start moving up. That was another smart thing Theo did I disagree.
  24. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:16 AM) I realize the fire sale isn't over. Quintana could very well be traded, Robertson SHOULD be traded, maybe even Abreau and/or Frazier could go. As it stands now, the Sox are probably in need of an outfielder, a catcher, and a starting pitcher. They may eventually need some infield and relief pitching help. So, what do we see the Sox doing? Signing a few veterans to merely be stopgaps or signing some players that could build some value and be traded at the deadline? I imagine many of the free agents out there would like to play for a contender, but not all of them will be able to. For outfielders, I could see a guy like Coco Crisp, Drew Stubbs, or Jeff Francoeur being a stopgap. There aren't a lot of options at catcher, but on a rebuilding team who cares? Hanigan, Avila, Suzuki, Saltalamacchia, Soto...these guys are possibilities. And as far as starting pitching, we've heard Holland's name. I've also seen someone suggest Fister. What are your thoughts? Who could you see the Sox signing to be part of year one of our rebuild? I posted this in the other thread, but Rasmus would be a good buy-low one year gamble.
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:39 AM) Why can't we pay him $10M. We'll have plenty of financial flexibity to add a piece or two like him. This. Its perfectly ok overpaying. I really hope we take on some bad expiring contracts if it means a prospect comes along with it (like what the Braves have done).
